ME1 slightly more due to more exploration making you feel that you were exploring a vast galaxy, and it introduced us to some amazing characters.

ME2 was still brilliant but I did prefer the first slightly. I think that ME2 did a lot of things right and it certainly had the best opening.

My least is ME3. I liked the fact that it went back to the first game's art direction, had Shepard rejoin the Alliance, an Aliance Normandy, Traynor, EDI with a body, Liara, Ashley/Kaidan in your squad, more Wrex and I thought the Citadel was much better than in ME2. However, everything else was worse. I think the negatives in ME3 outweigh the posititves unfortunately, but I still loved playing it. It is Mass Effect after all.

By far Mass Effect 1. Best story, best characters.

None. I love them all equally for different reason.

Mass Effect 1, and despite popular opinion I love ME1's combat.

I also very much loved Mass Effect 2, but 3 seemed to go backwards on some things. Horrible journal system, cheesy over usage of memes from ME2, lower quality writing, less dialog options, and the ending, just to name a few. Not a fan of some of the soundtrack of 3 either, they diverted from their initial influence of 80's sci-fi movies like Blade Runner too much for 3.

ME2>ME1>ME3

But if ME1 had ME3's combat and leveling systems, it would easily be the best game ever created.

In my opinion both sequels are superior games to ME 1 so it is a pretty close battle between ME 2 and ME 3 for me. ME 3 has the advantage of the reapers arriving and fighting the reaper war (every mission is part of the war in some way) while ME 2 has a few encounters with the collectors but most of the game is fighting the terminous system merc gangs (which can be fun but doesn't compare to fighting reaper forces or an indocrtrinated cerberus), however ME 2 is currently the bigger game mainly due to it's DLC support, however that may change when ME 3's DLC starts rolling in. As far as the squads go it is hard to say. There are advantages to both smaller and larger squads. Larger squads allow for more experimentation making for varied and interesting gameplay however the smaller squad allows for more interaction with the squad in between missions (Garrus was much more chatty in ME 3)

There were aspects of all three games that I liked, but for me the story is the most important thing, so ME1 takes the top spot. ME2 takes the bottom spot, because the story was SO DUMB. I mean, working for Cerberus? Really, Cerberus? Did I not just spend an entire game finding out how despicable Cerberus is? And now I'm working for them? REALLY? Yep, Shepard derps along with the Illusive Man for an entire game, and doesn't deviate from what the Illusive Man puts in front of him until the very end. In Mass Effect 3, we discover that the whole "stop the Collectors" thing was pretty much a glorified sidequest, and the Dirty Dozen we spent an entire game recruiting turn out to be very replaceable cogs in a very inevitable series of events. Oh, you thought keeping Garrus alive would make a difference? How about no. Miranda, the ex-Cerberus scientist? Nope, her death doesn't affect the course of events in any significant way. Letting Jacob die spares FemShep a rude awakening if she romances him, but other than that, his survival means virtually nothing. Same goes for Jack, Grunt, Samara, Thane, etc. Oh, well, if you're emotionally invested in the whole quarian/geth thing, you might want to make sure Tali survives, and doesn't get exiled, but Legion? If he dies or is given to Cerberus, you talk to Legion instead. Was that a typo? NO, IT WASN'T. Yeah, the differences are that cosmetic. But ME3 was still better than ME2 in that we got an emotional payoff to the Mordin storyline, the Legion storyline, the Wrex storyline, and a few others. Not Shepard's, but what are you gonna do? At least you don't finish up the game taking potshots at a giant Terminator. As quasi-existential and laughably illogical as the ending of ME3 is, it's still better than the absurd endgame of ME2, which was every bit as pointless as the ending to ME3. Stop the Collectors! So the Reapers can send Banshees, Brutes, Ravagers, Marauders, Cannibals and good ol' Husks at you instead. Oooookaaaaay...

ME2.

Huge squad. The right amount of decisions and autodialogues. It wasn't the biggest or best RPG of the 3 but it was the most I enjoyed and played. Also the story sucked but the amount of missions and characters made it worth it. Plus the final mission is the best mission in the series.

I agree I missed some elements of ME1 (story, upgrades etc) but I've played 2 much more for the amount of characters and how well written they where

and yes Batman does pwn

The first. The second was a wild remaking of the original formula, which came at the cost of some significant RPG elements. The third had the best combat of the three, but player choice didn't have as much effect as the consequences of previous games(which had quite a long list indeed). The first is what captured my imagination in the first place. The soundtrack absolutely nailed it. The exploration, as flawed as it may have been, felt immersive and neat.

Plus, blue alien side boobs. Who wouldn't want that?

ME 3 for me. ME2 pretty much killed the series for me, and then ME3 brought it back.

ME1, followed closely by 3. I like to pretend 2 didn't exist. (Except for LOTSB)

Despite the ending, I'd still have to say ME3 was the best gaming experience. That followed closely by ME2, which was followed closely by ME1. It just seemed to me that ME3 combined the best of both ME1 and ME2 and expanded on them. If it wasn't for the ending, ME3 would be far and above the best in the series IMHO.

Mass Effect 2.

So much variety.  And the way that the story divulges into possibly turning Shepard into a human superiorist is kinda intresting.

Also, has LIs that can be considered Paragon or Renegade options.

Srsly? I guess the fact that it made no sense wasn't a stumbling block for you? It cracks me up that people complain about the fact that the ending to ME3 makes no sense (and it doesn't) but don't object to the fact that the ending of ME2 didn't make any sense either. I mean, Pureé O' Humans being fed through straws to a baby Reaper? Aaaand...why? But if the Suicide Squad had gone on to bigger and better things in ME3, instead of being sidelined, well, then maybe the rest of ME2 would have been worthwhile. But turns out, Mordin was wrong when he said "had to be me, someone else might have gotten it wrong." Padok Wiks does a serviceable job curing the genophage, sorry Mordin. Oh, and Oriana Lawson is just as dedicated to stopping Henry Lawson as Miranda would have been. And Jack makes a good teacher, and if you care a lot about Random Grissom Academy Student #1, then make sure you upgrade your ship armor in ME2.

So yeah, the Suicide Mission might have "looked cool" and it might have been fun to play, but it was a stupid storyline idea and a pointless task in the overall narrative. If things like story are important to you, I can't imagine why you would think it was anything other than another example of BioWare dropping the ball with the story. Yes, BioWare can create really fun gameplay and some really good character moments, but stories that make sense? I think we've found the Achilles heel.

Mass Effect 2 was my favorite because I liked being able to use a vast amount of different characters. Thought most everybody in the game was well written. Didn't like the whole Shepard back from the dead angle but was able to move past it.

Mass Effect I also loved because of the great story and as people say the space opera feel but was disgusted with the unlimited ammo and some of the controls for cover/AI...ect...ect...

Mass Effect 2. I loved the feel of the Cerberus Normandy, the freedom it had (not Hackett callimg me every time I entered a system and telling me to run an errand for him (until Arrival when I have to pick up his friend and then become a war criminal because she's indoctrinated.) I also liked that the characters, aside from Garru and Tali who are on the ship with you, from ME1 have grown into their own people. Liara's taking on and then becoming the Shadow Broker, Wrex is the Cheif of his clan and unifying the clans to make the Krogan a better race, and Ashley and Kaidan are still with the Alliance and promoted and have enough of a brain to NOT commit treason and join your Cerberus crew. The council wasn't second guessing your every move and making snarky comments about your motivations (what the Turian councilor says if you save Feros). I also like how the game shows just how you were viewed by the council space community since as soon as you're dead they disavow everything you did besides stopping a rogue spectre. Sovereign is labeled as a geth ship and they didn't eve tell people you were dead and the Alliance used you for recruiting ads. That's a slap in the face especiaily to Spacer sheps since their entire life is with the Alliance. I also enjoyed how ME2 expanded on the areas of spae you didn't get to in ME1 like he terminus systems.

I still haven't decided whether ME2 or ME3 is the best in the series. I'm leaning towards ME2 at the moment because ME3's ending was kinda meh.

The Original Mass Effect. I didn't care about the infinite ammo or ridiculous amounts of shields and hp you got. (though i admit, it was fun taking three rockets to the face and be still standing).
The Mako was fun. I know people hated it, but I think that's because planets sucked.
Missions made sense, storyline made sense. the Sovereign>Saren plot twist was nice.
And the characters from ME1 are still my favs.

In order: ME1>ME3>ME2>>>>>>>>>>ME$ ending.
