My current character did not destroy Andraste's ashes, but as a curious player I decided to reload a save to see what would happen if he had...

When Kolgrim makes his offer to you (to destroy Andraste's ashes using the dragon's blood), Leliana objects by saying (paraphrase):  "This is blood magic, and Kolgrim is mad/insane/deluded."  Considering that Leliana is going to FIGHT YOU TO THE DEATH if you do as Kolgrim asks, shouldn't this objection be something more expressive and forceful?!?!  Something more than "He's nuts."

AFTER you pour the dragon blood into the Urn of Sacred Ashes, Leliana says (paraphrase): "You fiend!  Die!"  Given the intensity of her feelings about destroying the ashes, shouldn't she say something BEFORE you pour the blood into the Urn?  "Wait, please don't, this defiles the sacred, etc."  Shouldn't she attempt to PREVENT you from destroying the ashes rather object AFTERWARDS?

Leliana allows you a response before she attacks, and you can intimidate her to prevent her from turning against you.  If you succeed, she says (paraphrase): "I can't stand against you, but I'll never forgive you for this."  Leliana disapproves -10.  This makes little sense given that Leliana and the Guardian (to say nothing of the ash wraiths summoned by the Guardian) stand a reasonable chance of defeating the remaining three party members.  Also, "I'll never forgive you" strikes me as more serious than a mere 10-point disapproval (-50 or more is what I'd consider appropriate).  This isn't enough to guarantee an end to the romance, and has little impact on subsequent events.  At camp afterwards, she continued to be loving and failed to acknowledge the conflict in any way.  I gave her a gift and then took her to bed.

This is VERY bad writing.  Does anyone know which writer(s) were primarily responsible for Leliana's material?  Was the material present in this quest written by someone other than Leliana's main writer(s)?  Leliana is written so well in general that I found the above scenes to be rather surprising.  Perhaps the writer just didn't like the character, and the Guardian's verbal assault on Leliana matches the writer's feelings about her?

About 4/5 complete, so no endgame spoilers please... not that this topic should require such.

True although destroying Andraste's ashes really has no point unless you're not playing with a full deck like those mountain men.  Even if you're evil you would most likely just want to keep them a secret.

Even Sten was like this is just stupid.  which it was no different than excepting a quest from a bunch of mental patients that escaped from a mental institution.

Yeah, that entire sequence doesn't really seem to be handled that well. Of course, the entire Urn "required sidequest" feels really shoddy in comparison to the rest of the game. The Guardian was about the only interesting part to the entire quest, and even that kind of fell flat in some key areas. The reactions of the various party members were...silly, at best. Almost all of them, not just Leliana. Neither making fun of it nor being so reverent (yet being so inactive if you choose to destroy them) make a hell of a lot of sense, and overall the entire quest feels like a departure from the actual plot of the game.

Sten and Morrigan act reasonably well for that point - they're both disinterested in whatever kind of supposedly holy qualities of the Ashes.

Morrigan, however, acts out of character in one instance - Kolgrim. How she can side with his insanity is completely off-character. In the first place, she's doesn't believe in Andraste. How could she be sympathetic to a fringe cultist in a remote mountain who doesn't only believe in Andraste, but believes some esoteric breakaway branch of said crazy religion? They could be useful, but THE ENTIRE CHANTRY can't? It's totally preposterous.

If anything, Morrigan would be wholly against your destruction of the Ashes for the sake of professional curiosity. The Ashes are obvious doing something since they're tying down a Dragon and producing powerful Summon-like effects. The question is, how? Morrigan SHOULD be extremely interested in acquiring a portion of the Ashes for her own "saner" studies, if nothing else.

Morrigan revered the cult because of their offering not because of how soft and cuddly they were, or their politics. It made sense, Morrigan resents the chantry this is simply one way to offend them in a rather severe manner, she doesn't need to believe in Andraste to realize a personal wound to the people she hates.

In my world, Morrigan has a hard on for dragons, and after going through a cave full of dragonlings and people working together, she's figured out it's a dragon cult. Blood magic is ubiquitous in dragon cults (see: drinking Archdemon blood) and she's decided that if it helps the dragon out, it's fine.

Of course, she doesn't mind if you then kill the dragon, but I try to pretend she gives me scowly faces.

Yeah the events in Haven strike me as raising some questions about certain characters. Also I still find it a little hard to believe that this town is located remotely enough in the mountains that no one has noticed a goddamn dragon flying around, the thing obviously wasn't born yesterday.

I think the dragon should just eat the townspeople - problems solved.

I read a suggestion somewhere that Leliana, being a rogue and Orlesian bard and such, would be fine with you simply lying to Kolgrim. I've never tried this, but is it possible to take Kolgrim's offer, go through the trials, take a pinch of the ashes and not desecrate them, and just slip out the back door? (I do remember a path that allows you to bypass the place where Kolgrim is on the way out.)
