At some point
after I posted the fifteenth chapter of my fanfic: Mighty Morphin Mecha
Rangers, I started playing Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 2 again.

Both
are good games and I plan on getting Mass Effect 3 despite the
controversy surrounding the ending. That's not why I'm here though.

I'm here to discuss an epiphany that I've just had.

(The following will contain spoilers, so...if you want to leave, now's the time.)

I'm also a fan of Evangelion despite it's confusing subject matter and sometimes pretentious presentation, however while I was
researching stuff over Eva's instrumentality to refresh my memory, I
recalled a little tidbit of information that I remembered from the
ending of Mass Effect 2. So I went back to that tidbit, compared it to
Eva's instrumentality project and I realized something.

Angels are the equivalent of miniature reapers.

I
know that this sounds really far-fetched and some of you have probably
already left. But just hear me out, I can explain myself for this
ludicrous assertion.

We'll start with what we know about reapers.
On first glance, they're simply giant shrimp-shaped dreadnaughts
ranging in size from 160 meters to 2 kilometers with powerful armor and
shields and enough offensive power for any single reaper to take on a
whole fleet without really trying.  As shown when Sovereign invaded the
Citadel and the good guys strained themselves to beat him.

In
Mass Effect 2, we learn that the Collectors were kidnapping human
colonists so that they could be contained and processed into a pure
genetic paste that preserves their minds (and likely their souls) and
that paste is used to construct a newborn reaper. This would make every
reaper a hybrid between synthetics and organics with each containing the
intact mind of millions of people in some sort of gestalt
consciousness.

Now for Evangelion and what we know about it's
Seeds of Life, Adam and Lillith. In the distant past, these two were
created by a race of super smart beings who were about to go extinct. So
they created Adam, Lillith and a bunch of other Seeds of Life and then
performed they're own instrumentality projects to place their souls
within each one. Somehow Adam and Lillith ended up on Earth and Adam was
put to sleep while Lillith's progeny inherited the earth.

When
Adam awoke in Second Impact and then regressed down into a pre-born
state, his children appeared as the angels setting off Evangelion's
plot. Here's what I think, Adam was trying to destroy humanity to make
room for his progeny but was stopped by Misato's dad and took out
Antarctica, the Katsuragi crew and good chunk of life on earth as a
consolation prize, reducing them all down into LCL (basically orange tang) which in Evangelion
is the basic genetic material for sentient life.

LCL=Genetic Paste!

One
more thing is that, what happened to all of those souls that Adam
reduced down?  I'll tell you what happened, they became the angels.
Somehow, those souls, the souls that were probably still inside Adam and
everything that was cast from Adam formed themselves into the Angels.
But they're not completely whole, so that's why they're trying to find
Adam/Lillith to complete themselves and wipe out humanity.

Now for some comparisons between Angels and Reapers that should serve for thought.

1)
Both Angels and Reapers possess nigh-impervious barriers that can only
be overcome with great force, by clashing a similar barrier with theirs,
or somehow distracting the angel/reaper's attention to lower it's
effectiveness.

2) Both possess powerful offensive capabilities
that allow them to tear through even the greatest number of adversaries.
Reapers have beams that they can spam at whim while some Angels also
have beams that they can spam at whim amongst other abilities.

3)
Both possess an acute ability which allows them to invade and influence
the minds of their enemies. Reapers can indoctrinate organics to turn
them against their own species and sow discord and divide loyalties. The
process also leaves the victim in a shattered state, even to where
basic survival instinct is overridden.

Some Angels such as Arael
and Leliel can also invade the mind of their enemies. During this
process, the angel confronts the victim over perceived spiritual and
mental vulnerabilities, causing the victim to lose their will to resist
and can, in the cause of Asuka, leave the pilot in a catatonic state
where they will require medical treatment to survive.

4) Both are
somehow composed of multiple thousands if not millions of beings broken
down to a basic genetic material and then formed into a single
creation. Why are some AT fields formed by Angels stronger than even the
Eva's? Because they're drawing on the thousands of souls within their
gestalt being them while the Evas only have one.

5) Both seek the
extinction of humanity. It's for different reasons of course, but still
noteworthy. Angels want to destroy humans because of an evolutionary
competition while reapers are continuing a Cycle. However, both view
themselves as superior to humans and are surprised when the humans find a
way to resist them and possibly infuriated.

So what does this mean?

This means that after years of banging our heads together, we finally know what the point of the Human Instrumentality is.

Seele wanted to Super Giant Naked Rei to give birth to a giant super angel-reaper that would go forth and conquer the galaxy!

In all seriousness though, I now have a mental picture of where the human instrumentality project will end up as.

Super-Harbinger.

Thoughts? Is this far-fetched? Is anything relating to Evangelion a forbidden subject? Counterpoints?
