@ BigglesFlysAgain: Brilliant. Shepard and Gerv-chobot doing the David Brent dance in the Purgatory Bar.

EDIT: No.  No this can't be the top of a page!  Come on!  That's not worth it!

All right, it's hum a song, isn't it?  I may never get this chance again, so: 'Thunder Road' by Springsteen.

Not sure about humming songs but...

I always thought a short mass effect "mini musical" parody would be funny, but of course its something a fan of the series would write, and a parody is usually of something that has merit in the first place, so as much as I have one or two funny ideas to mash together, its really not worth my time to give bioware the "gift" of me being a fan...

I had the warped idea of a Mass Effect musical parody.

I get the nonsense vision of Keef Richards crawling from his luxury condo in Jamaica in 22nd Century Mass Effect (Keef and Jagger are still cutting tracks to pay for Mick's babies and the devil won't collect on their souls till they've cleared the royalties.

Keef wakes up from his Biotic Narcotic stupor surrounded by a score of Asari groupies when a Reaper interrupts one of his famous naps. I imagine him standing. Shaking down his Fender Broadcaster (Guitar nerd comment), Plugging in to his Dyson Sphere powered Amp and turning everything to 11. Then after taking a hit from the Atomic Bong in the corner. he starts blasting out some dirty blues on the old 5 string razor.

Cue cut scene of Harbinger's ears bleeding and face melting before he finally disappears in a fog of Pyrotechnics in Red Green And Blue. Cause we do full spectrum light shows in Rock

Keef walks up to the crucible only to find another one of Mick's babies appear and the whole cycle continues over again. As Paint it black, Sympathy for the Devil & 19th nervous breakdown play out over the credits.

Delving Deeper into Post Ending Stress Disorder this fell out onto the page

Rolling Stones----Mass EffectEA have recently announced a forthcoming mass effect game that combines the music of the rolling stones with the famed story telling of the Bioware brand. It's game play elements feature an amalgamation of the music sim and rpg formats. Using custom controllers and revolutionary game play combined with Bioware's story telling excellence

The gamer assumes the role of the iconic Keef Richards in his battle against the REApers. an intergalactic race of Corporate Megabeasts Intent in draining any creativity or free expression from sapient lifeforms in the galaxy using the insidious power of manufactured music. An insidious form of mental corruption that rots the brains of victims leaving them as slaves or zombies.

The REApers are led by an advanced AI called Harbinger. He and his indoctrinated agent Simon Cowell prepare for the REApers invasion that would drown the galaxy in a swamp of bland monotony. His race of AI sex bots dominate the media with mundane and mindless Muzak manufactured to rot the brain through constant repetition and psycho-erotic manipulation

The only weapon against this is music with real soul and roots. Blues and Rock. The only human with a connection to the Blues, posses the mastery of its tricks and has the physical will and stamina to resist the REApers is Keef Richards. The 350 year old indestructible guitarist with the Rolling Stones.

Become Keef and journey from the clubs of Jamaica onto a galaxy wide tour of musical expression that frees the ears and minds of a galaxy performing classics from the canon of the Rolling Stones.

Discover the mysteries of the Atomic Bong on Jamaica
Make First Contact with a race of Alien Stripper Groupies called the Asari
End the Krogan/Turian civil war between the Hells Angels and the Dead heads on Kumchatka
Recover expenses incurred by fraudulent Salarian manager Al' Len Klein
Collect assets to build the galaxy's largest stage set-up
And Many more

Take centre Stage in the inter galactic stadium tour of all times as the worlds most elegantly wasted human being Keef Richards fights the good fight for real music

Honest I am not a stones fan I just like being silly sometimes and Keef against the Reapers is an image to sleep on.

Worse yet, to finish the story I am forced to actively control his participation in this travesty of choice. I am forced to destroy my avatar in this universe, as well as the piece of myself that I had invested in him and entrusted to BioWare and their creation.

And that didn't feel very good.

Great sidenote about Tali and the parallel universe solution that you created for her.  That was cool.  As for the paragraph that I highlighted above, I think you summed up the main point I was futilely trying to verbalize late last night.  Unfortunately my comment became so fuddled and disjointed that I ended up just putting a warning at the top and hitting the 'submit' button.  And then I went to bed.  I re-read my post this morning and got a nice chuckle out of how I ended that comment.  "I am not God".  Wow, that line was pure solid gold.  lol.

Many (many) pages ago I explained why my first Shepard arrived at the Destroy option - and while I won't bore you with the gorey details again, I do want to mention that Destroy seemed to work for that character.  No, Malcolm Shepard isn't evil, and no I, bc525, am not a genocidal maniac.  At least I hope I'm not.

I've read so often that many players literally "lost" their Shepard at the ending, and I just started playing with some ideas about why a character would suddenly break from its established form at the critical moment of the story.  In my previous comment from last night that was where the whole "breaking point for Shepard" concept materialized in my scrambled thought process.  Of course, the obvious answer is just plain bad writing, and in this case that's probably the correct answer.  Bioware just messed up in dramatic fashion, and then covered their gaffe with a blanket of "artistic integrity".

But ... I thought about the dreams and visions Shepard had been having, and I wondered if Shepard had been disintegrating before my eyes throughout ME3.  In a way that makes the ending more confusing.  If Shepard was disintegrating throughout and managed to hold it together and have such resolve for so long, then why crumble with the finish line in sight?  Ultimately drayfish is right, to some degree we all got screwed by the ending.  Even my Shepard that was okay with choosing Destroy gets screwed by the extreme fallout and devastation that occurs with his decision.  Even when fulfilling his goal, he still fails.

I suppose BioWare could argue that there's some glimmer of hope in the ending.  The bizarre "breath scene" could be taken as a sign of hope I guess, just as the sappy scene with old man Stargazer and his little grandson could symbolize a sense of hope.  Synthesis tries to offer up some sense of a fresh and hopeful beginning, but as others have expressed hope gets lost in the forced nature of how Synthesis is executed.

I agree,

So there could be
Krogan Event Security.
Elcor Roadies,
Hanar Lighting Techs.
A subquest where Jagger gets to finally mix the Kraftwerk inspired album idea of his with some Geth musicians
Also have the Quarians do a Daft Punk inspired dance remix.

Think I'll stop now:whistle:

Dr. Dray, I thank you for that post. It was very interesting read and I can tell from the thread length it has caused quite a stir amongst the forum.

I hope both the naysayers and yesmen have all read this post and took it at as first a critical opinion and second as an educated fan trying to find reason. In your argument you even stated that Bioware could potentially re-write the ending and we would receive it and gave evidence of well known authors doing just that.

I clap my hands in delight at how well put together your argument is and I agree whole heartily. There were a lot of themes in the game and the three ending choices just destroy the whole game and its concept. The blindness of Bioware astounds me. I just do not understand why they can not be mature and go: Yes we realize now the endings suck and we want to improve this.

IT is the way to go. I'm not all for it, but in my opinion, is has the most logical approach behind it that could take the game back to its roots.

Plus I had another thought: maybe these endings are deliberately done to not provide an ending to pave the way for DLC and to keep the Multiplayer game alive. Because in the multiplayer game, the Reaper war is not over. I imagine the multiplayer game picks up after a paragon Sheppard united the Geth and Quarians because all the races are available for you to use. Looking at this part, it would be insane for the game to have an actual ending when the multiplayer encourages us to continue to play through.

I think there is more at work. EA want money. Mass Effect sells better then sex to us science fiction fans and there is probably more to be plumbed. However I think Bioware are naive that we would have taken these endings and then been "shocked" when an expansion pack or DLC came out expanding more on Earth.

Now we shall see in July if this EC is worth the hype.

How about a twisted version of "The Producers" where they manage to pull off the planned flop? Maybe Mr "H" has been silent because he is living it up in Rio with the money.

Thanks I now imagine a crowd of Vorcha singing "Springtime for Harbinger and the Reaper Fleet"

Maybe Mel Brooks was an inspiration for the ending? An ending from another production spilled over into ME3 in a similar way to the ending of Blazing Saddles?

"It seems to me Mr Hidson, a producer of video games could stand to make a lot more money from a flop rather than a success"

*By jove your right!*

*We hire the best writers in town, the best programers, and the best voice actors, and that Mrs Chobot*

"And we screw it all up at the last minute right?"

*You got it  kid! You'll be a producer yet...*

In fact the way bioware raises its money through EA could be seen to have paralells to the film/production/film again... Left to your imagination of course...

Since Allers basicly was Chobot in all but name and field of journalism, was her inclusion almost breaking the fourth wall?

There was a line of dialogue cut from the above

Exec to producer "Look I promised my kid a part in this game. Write me something at the end that puts him in lights and I'll fund the goddamn project"

Sure, all he needs to say is "You have choice, more than you could imagine", before the big final number picks up.

*curtain lifts to reveal star inset background, performers in husk costumes in center stage*

*cheesy musical theme*

***The galaxy was having trouble, what a sad sad story,
needed a new leader to restore its former glory,
where-oh-where was he? what happened to dark en-er-gy?
We looked around, and then we found,
The synthetic for you and me!***

**Illusive man walks into stage (or maybe M. shields would be better?)**

TIM/Shields:
Aaaaaand now iiiiits....
springtime for Harbinger and the galaaaaaxy!
The citadel is happy and Gaaaay,
We're flying to a faster pace,
Look out here come the machines in space!

Springtime for Harbinger and the galaxy!***

I think thats enough perhaps...

Does this mean the thread will now collapse in upon itself like a dying star?

Or is it like the scene in Spaceballs where they start watching Spaceballs the movie on Mr. Rental?

@bc525

Sorry I didn't really comment on this last night, but I did think that it was interesting to consider that Shepard may have broken without us realizing, that we assumed s/he would just keep going as long as we kept pushing them along, but in the end s/he is only as human as we ourselves. And I think to an extent BioWare tried that a bit with things like Thessia, though I'm not sure how effective that was.

The dreams and such do give the indication the Shepards mind was going through some stress, though as has been pointed out before they were a bit hamfisted in the forcing our Shepard to care about this child, regardless of background etc. And as you said why finally crumble so close to the end.

The whole thing gets a bit muddied too because Shepard always seemed so unfazed by everything, no matter what your Shepard's alignment or choices they always seemed to rise above everything thrown at them, a true larger than life figure. I mean Shepard comes back from the grave and just seems to shrug it off, to paraphrase Monty Python and the Holy Grail:

"They killed me."

"Killed you?"

"I got better."

All in all though I've always disliked being forced to fail, unless it really worked well in the story.

RE: "Springtime for Harbinger"

*pre-orders DVD*

Also, does anyone remember the in-universe musical summary of Reboot right near the end? I'd almost rather have that than the EC...

@Sable

Bwahahaha.

Seriously, that's awesome.

The recursion of what I just did is not lost upon me.

Fear not recursion. Fear the pitiful stack which overflows at its mention.

@bc525

I'm pretty sure my Shepard broke at the end just like yours. The difference is, I broke along with him.

[Apologies, but it looked like fun; the product of too much coffee, and my rekindled love of The Muppets:]

MORDIN:
It's Mass Effect!

BAND:
*bup bah dup bum bah duh... Bup Bah Dup bum Bah Duh... Bup Bah Dup bum Bah Duh, budda badda bum bah! dum, dum, dum...*

EVERYONE:
It's time to put on armour,
Time for biotic fights
It's time to make your Shepard
for the universe tonight.

BAND:
*dum bum bum...*

EVERYONE:
We've got incoming Reapers
They're looking mighty spry,
We'll prob'ly have to stop them
or the galaxy will die.

BAND:
*dun, dun, dun...*

WREX:
Why do they always come here?

JAVIK:
For primitives so small?

WREX:
They make me want to eat them.

JAVIK:
And I'd airlock them all.

MORDIN:
To introduce our guest star,
that's what I'm here to do.
So it really makes me happy,
to introduce to you:
From a world of nightmares, on a plane of existence beyond our comprehension: the fabulous 'Thus hurts you' Harbinger! Yaaaaayyy!

EVERYONE:
It's time to get things started!

AUDIENCE:
Press 'start' to get things started!

EVERYONE:
So now let's get things started on the
Most sensational, computational,
conversational, calibrational...
This – is what we call a Mass Effect!

p.s. - And welcome back alleyd!  Glad to see Keef got the airing he deserved.
