I am running;

Ballistic Blades: 6/6 (Damage (I am a sucker for things that say damage :/), Range, Explosive Blades)
Blade Armour: 0/6
Inferno Grenade: 6/6 (Damage, Damage, Armour Damage)
Batarian Enforcer: 6/6 (Damage & Capacity, Headshot, Snipers & Shotguns)
Fitness: 6/6 (Melee Damage, Martial Artist, Melee Synergy)

At the moment. Reason for no Blade Armour and weight perks is because I love using my Claymore, it may be out performed by Graal and GPS is some ways, but I just love the feel of it, so I want shorter CD on Blades as possible. I find I do very well on Gold with damage output and crowd control for my squisher friends, though I will probably try your build with my Graal when I next get a reset card (I don't do promoting).

You mention the GPS having a bigger spread and being less accurate in your video, as long as you can get the ability 'lock on' (when you can see the health bar etc.) then the GPS pellets will seek the target to an extent, doing massive damage to ranged targets with charged shots. I take massive advantage of this is with my chain overloading, death machine, Geth Engineer.

As for the Batarian heavy melee tracking, it's nuts. I was heavy meleeing a Nemesis when someone overloaded it's shields, which makes them stagger a fair distance, I did a 180 degree turn automatically to get the kill (PC).

Last thing; do you charge the Graal much? It didn't seem like you did and I hardly notice the difference in damage when I do.

Yeah, on the Geth sure. But I can head shot (OSOK) an enemy from across the screen with the Graal. Much better for Batarian imo. Sometimes I charge it, sometime I don't. If I am about to headshot a phantom I charge it but against mooks usually not.

I would like to see a comparison of bleed vs explosion on close range target and see the damage difference :P

I tried Bleed and was SO unimpressed compared to explode it wasn't even funny. First of all, the explode staggers and causes damage with an AoE. Second of all, the overall (and maybe even initial) damage might be more the other way, but the actual bleed damage itself is so negligible. I found myself facing enemies who were very slowly bleeding out and not about to stagger unless I recast. This, to me is an obvious choice.

Cone over damage on the other hand... After seeing the video of the ridiculous angle you can hit with cone I switched right over but I'm not impressed with actual playtesting. Rarely do I miss a target even without the cone upgrade since I'm almost always facing at least in their general direction, and I actually do miss the damage. I noticed a few enemie with a bar or two of health leftover after a Blades + heavy melee whereas prior to trying the cone upgrade I don't recall leaving anyone left alive.

I'm also torn between cooldown and range. Both are pretty damn helpful and if you can get used to their range without the extending upgrade, improving cooldowns might just be optimal for more blade spam and ensured staggering (nothing sucks harder than having enemies who aren't staggered and no blades to cast at them).

Also, Incendiaries can be helpful CC, so ignoring Blade Armor I'd a viable alternative, but I wouldn't recommend speccing into both. Tried it and the grenades were too useless without all six ranks plus the armor was lacking without that teeny boost to damage resistance or cooldowns.

I'm personally on the same page as Zenning with my ideal build here: I prefer to focus on the blades over my gun. So my build will PROBABLY look like this as soon as I get another reset, and probably stay for a while:

6 Ballistic Blades: Damage, Cooldown (probably), Explosion
6 Blades Armor: Melee, Melee Returned, Damage Reduction
0 Inferno Nades
6 Batarian Enforcer: Capacity, Power, Weight Reduction
6 Fitness: Melee, Melee, Melee

Now taking Power Recharge on my Blades Armor would lead to even yet more spammable Blades, but I'm thinking DR would be more helpful in the long wrong no matter how slight it may be on Gold, because you can always deactivate the armor for even faster cooldowns anyway.

I keep tweaking this mofo and can't settle on a build but I'm thinking this might be it for me. Wish I could play with you guys. Love how often scrubs kick me from Gold incorrectly assuming I won't whoop more ass than their puny Salarians.

As I said. Both are viable builds. Zenning and I got nearly identical scores. I enjoy sniping with the Graal, which is one reason I maxed out damage and went for headshots. Also I still have a 106% recharge rate, which is plenty imo.

Once I get a respec card I will respec for going without the blades and everything in inferno, just to test it.

@Stardusk:

Oh I know you said both are viable: I was just taking a long-winded approach to basically agreeing lol. I was just specifying that I myself prefer the Blades focus over the Weapons focus like Zenning seems to, and then going my own route with damage over cone and recharge over range (probably).

What do you guys think of the Battlemaster on Gold?

Don't have the soldier but do have the sentinel. Do you think he could do the same thing? Can't see vid until I get home.

Unfortunately not, at least on Gold. He can be successful, just not as a pure CQC build like the Soldier. The net is slow to cast and can miss, which means death on Gold if you're in their faces. Plus it can only catch one enemy and THEN stun nearby foes another one and a half seconds after that, IF you spec for Electric Field.

Blades are instant. They stun, they hurt, the set up shots and melees, and then they explode and stun and damage again (if not outright kill, and in brutal gib-'splosion fashion).

Soldier's definitely the more front lines class of the two.

I actually saw Zenning post his melee focused build in another thread when I was doing some Batarian Soldier research after I unlocked him and decided to try it. It is amazing and I can't stop Falcon Punching people. I always heard everyone say "you can't melee in gold, it's suicide". And I tended to agree for most classes, but having so many staggers at your disposal (blades + the explosion evolution) practically has the enemies begging you to punch their faces clean off.

I use the GPS instead of the Graal because it is harder to line up headshots in the heat of battle for me on an xbox (if I had a mouse I would Graal it up in a heartbeat). Also my GPS is 9 and my Graal is 1. I want to try the Graal because I hear good things but the unlock system is not being kind to me with that weapon at the moment.

I can't find if anyone has been talking about that, but when I shoot explosive ballistic blades and I hit multiple enemy does each of them get full explosion dmg, or is it divided among them?

Lol dude! That's terrible. 0 in Inferno Grenades or 0 in Blade Armor, NEVER 0 in Ballistic Blades! Oh man there goes that class until you get a reset lol.

And thanks! I'll def check the vid as soon as I'm off work.

We did Hydra gold in our two man run.  It was good stuff.

Good.  Face Punching.  Stuff.

I plan on doing other maps. Mostly I do it on Giant because it is easy to demonstrate principles. Maps all play differently. Check out the two man run for something different.

I'm a sad panda.

Fraps was set to not record external input.

I suggest we do Reapers for our next 2 man run. It could be interesting.

Reapers + Condor.

= Death.

But yeah, should be intersting.

I promoted my Soldier just to rebuild based on this guide. Just amazing. Hope I get used to it, I'm not exactly a weapons player...

Thanks for sharing.

Excellent video for showcasing the batarian soldier. My only spec difference I do is take shield recharge rate for ranks 5 of fitness and blade armor. My shields start to recharge after the first stagger from blades, which gives you that little tiny shield gate which improves your survivability tenfold. And I don't miss the extra damage returned from melee. I try not to get meleed, and the 75% seems to do te same stagger, which is more important than extra damage.

Just a minute adjustment that can help less experienced players stay alive while in the enemy's face.

That extra 750 damage is absolutely massive.

Completely, goddamn massive.

And err ya, without the 15% increase, I still get my shields recharging a tiny bit after the enemies get staggered, and generally in a situation where shield recharge matters, are when I'm hiding from Atlas's and taking pot shots, something I don't do very often.

Do the blades bounce off Geth? I've noticed that half the time it looked like they did when I was on a Geth run, despite them being in range.
