Title says (almost) it all!

If possible Id like it to be somewhat lengthy, you know... start with a level 1 who will one day be an epic character and goes across 2+ modules.

What is, in your opinion the best?

There's only one that really qualifies, if you're looking for a 'rogue-based' module. But be ready for adult content, too. A Dance With Rogues. Kunoichi is another good assassin series (adult content as well). But it's quite short.

Aielund isn't entirely unfriendly to the concept of an assassin character. But it's very heavy on crit & sneak attack immune enemies. So dex-based damage is slow going.

Something I've done in the past is start with Kunochi, then play "Honor Among Thieves" by Baldecaran. That's a nice long module. Then pick up a bridge module to take you from level 12 to level 15 or so, and play Hordes. From there, you could play "The Gods Themselves" to finish off your evil deeds.

ADwR seems to be the best.

Desert Rose 1 and 2 has some interesting concepts and the best traps I've ever seen.

There is also Rogues of Quinn series, but I have not played it yet.

You could devise your own campaign from various modules using the class-specific module list.
Link in my sygnature.
(I know I'm shameless:P)

I once played the following sequence of modules (all designed specifically for Rogues) as a campaign:

Blizzard Pass*
Honor Among Thieves
Desert Rose
Desert Rose 2
The Art of Death - Back in Black**

That brings you close to epic levels, though you would not be quite there yet. At a somehwat higher level (perhaps after playing some intervening module or modules to get you to Level 22+)  Tomb of Horrors is a good module for epic rogues.

*Requires a character of 2nd or 3rd level, so you would need to first play a generic (i.e., not Rogue-specific) module that takes you to about level 3. Alternatively, you could just skip this one (since it is not really that good), play a generic module that takes you to about level 4 or 5 instead, and go into Honor Among Thieves from there.

**This has some very specific character requirements so it might not be suitable for any Rogue build. Also I do not remember if you can expect to end Desert Rose 2 at exactly level 15 (though you will be close at least), as Art of Death requires, so if not you might need to do some fine-tuning in a Character Creator module.

I finished DR2 at 15 level exactly, but this my vary(sidequests etc.)
Tomb of horrors description say: "MUST have some way of increasing strength to 23 temporarily, or permanently". By the way what's the best version of Tomb's of Horrors(author)?

Rogues of Quinn is a very dated module. It also has a somewhat quirky sense of humor. That may or may not appeal. It didn't turn me off, but I don't think I could play it now.

Tomb of Horrors is a tricky one. There's a bunch of stuff that's good for a rogue, and then a few things that will be exasperating. It's probably better in a party of 2-3, or with the OHS henchman system.

Desert Rose is a series I've really meant to try.

I played Rogues of Quinn a long time ago, it was pretty awesome.

I will totally try Dances with Rogues!

A Dance with Rogues was a female adult module which I didn't like at all...

I think if you really want to make a good Rogue you need a good City Settings, like Luskan...

Maybe someone should make a rendition of "Thieves World" by Gary Gygax...

Or maybe Greyhawk?

I remember a book series called "Tekla" or something like that, was a really good Rogue Book...

I'd love to see someone make something like that, but they had floating cities in that book series...

I'd like to see someone acurately capture the spirit of rogue, setting more precendence to "picking pockets", "burglary", and other rogue activities as the main focus, rewarding xp for successfully using skills etc... (like old D&D was).  To me a rogue adventure would be fabulous, as multi-class rogue would be very fun to play (like maybe rogue / wizard / aa?)

The Aielund series is my pick; plenty of UMD packed goodness.

<adjusting his cloak...>

@ Guile: Sounds like your are thinking of the Vlad Taltos series by Steven K. Zoltan Brust ((His real name)one of my favorite modern authors and one of my favorite series, overall). Vlad is an assassin with a conscience. Not such an easy thing to be. He is also a witch with a Jhereg (flying poisonous lizard) familiar. I can really identify with him there ;-) <a flying lizard. right. stupid choice for a familiar, if you ask me>
Didn't ask you, bird. <shoulda>
Heh.

There are many elements from the Taltos series (and the Godstalk series by PC Hodgell (another great rogue series)) that have influenced my own world and games, from the floating Castle Black to the structure of the thieve's and assassins guilds.

If anyone has written mods based on either of those series, I'd truly like to try them.

@ Elhanan: I didn't play Aielund as rogue (played through twice as Rolo (wizard/rogue) and Skeaver (pure fighter) and heartily recommend the series to *anyone*. It well deserves the Hall of Fame badge, IMO.

<...and adjusting all his various deadlies>
