so I played through, and decided to play through as escaping the prison yourself. I just walked out the front door with minimal fighting, pretending I was on the latest patrol. so you walk out the front... choose an area to go... aaaaaand POOF

the two guards you were travelling with disappear. what happened to them? you'd think there would be some encounter where one notices that you're not going to where you were supposed to be patrolling and attacks, or you jump them right before you leave, or... something. the play flow just kinda got interrupted for me

I think it's left up to you to choose, when I did it as my female rogue, I just assumed she would have gone on patrol and pulled a " hey did you hear that?.....stay here, I'll check it out" and then slip into the shadows and vanish leaving the other to to the captains fate when they report back at dawn without me, after it has been seen that there was also a jail break.

Try escaping by having party members rescue you. Some of the combinations are utterly hilarious :

Morrigan, Wynne

Oghren, Zevran (my favorite. The circus twins.)

I have done that! just hadn't done the escape yourselves part before, and i'm admittedly a completionist.
