So I just went back to BG Trilogy, and installed Tutu, so I can play from start to finish as any of the ToB classes, and I have to say, being a Wild Mage was probably the most fun I have ever had with an RPG hands down. Launching cows at people, AoE gemstorms of death, accidently turning my party into chicks, or myself into a squirrel, it was all great fun, and though I had to reload a few times, it was still hilarious some of the stuff I could do.

So I got to wondering, why doesn't DA:O have something similar to a Wild Mage? At first I figured it would seem out of place, but would it really? I mean sure, launching cows at people like a catapult is obviously not something that would help immerse someone into DA:O, but why not an apostate that doesn't exactly know how to use magic, so he just tries to do his best, and often gets the wrong results, or something along those lines?

It wouldn't even have to be as silly as the BG Wild Mage, and could easily just be when you cast a spell, there is chance you end up casting a totally different spell, perhaps even spells you have not yet learned, but also you may end up casting these spells at yourself, at party members, etc.

I dunno, I think it would be a fun Specilization if some work was put into it, I'm not a game dev so I'm not sure how well it would work, but I would have fun running around and casting random spells, at least I'd have more fun then when I tried Shapeshifter.

I was actually going to replay the BG series as a Wild Mage, I even made it past the first chapter in BG but then I decided I actually wanted to play PS: T again instead.

People actually enjoy the outcomes of battles being decided by random number generator rather than skill?

Yes.

There is nothing so hilarious or satisfying then using Nahals Reckless Dweomer to cast Protection from Magic on yourself, and it ends up turning into an AoE Finger of Death that can't be saved against, and hitting all the Dragons in the room, or trying to cast Shield on Minsc, and accidently turning him into a chick.

Its not a serious playthrough obviously, at least not in BG, but it's good fun, and adds a whole new replay that not doing is just a disservice to the game and everything in it, as its hilarious to watch what ends up happening when you try to cast stuff.

My idea would be to remove a bit of the silliness, and make it a bit more serious, but still random, which I think would work well in Dragon Age, at least if someone better able to designing these things were to tweak it a bit, and add the right values.

I can see it now... the next Bioware DLC.

"OUT NOW!"
"MAGES GONE WILD!!"

The screenie on the DLC download page would be Morrigan winking at the camera, 'natch.

Sorry, I just had to.. it was too good to miss.

Ah, yes. The time I played BGII as a wild mage and triumphed over Jon Irenicus, only to find that I had to reload the game because I'd turned myself neon orange. (I guess I could have gone through Throne of Bhaal looking like a walking traffic cone, but I decided not to.)

The chantry will explode with fierce followers if wild mages run around.

"Oh I'm sorry dear farmer I tried to heal your son from a wound but only managed to turn him into a chicken"

"Dammit why does this always happen ! I just wanted to cast true sight to find the thief, not Inferno in the middle of the marketplace !"

"Oh right, just my luck. Now you're not buffed with Heroic Offense, instead you have Curse of Mortality upon you. Aaand you're the tank and everyone attacks you. Goodbye, see ya after the battle"

Ah yes, but the chicken would be healed!

Every game needs Wild Mages. Sadly, developers seem scared of it.

Or maybe it's just too much work for something that's just a popular niche.  But I say BLAH to that.  BLAH!

Better yet.

Watch Alister get turned into a SQUIRREL.

And still you know, have the same health, and same armor, but he "chitters angerily" at you quite often.

At least it would be less annoying then his usual chatter.

As soon as the community perfects the process of adding new classes to the game I expect this to be modded in.

DA:O needs more classes in general.
