Agreed with OP. I usually host my own games and won't even ready up if we have a level below 12. It truly does matter on what level you are because it usually says if you have more than basic health and shields.

Although I have let a few games go with a level 5 when everyone readies up and accepts it. Just so they can babysit him.

I was in a group with a level 7 Geth Engineer that got highest score, so... yeah. And the rest of us weren't particularly bad, either. That was probably one of the smoother Silver runs I've done.

I will admit that I could probably take my 1's into silvers with my level X gold weapons, but considering how just a couple/few games on bronze can bring my noob up to level 8 or higher, there's no reason to put one's self and others at a disadvantage in a silver match by bringing in a level 1.

My rule for silver - must be level 8 with good guns, or level 12 with 2nd rate guns.

14? You need level 14 to play silver? Just because you s*ck, doesn't mean everyone else do as well. I play silver with any level. 6 is enough to have some advantage, 9 if you really want to be sure. 14 I'm already thinking about gold..

as long as they are rocking a sniper or the likes there is no too low for silver for any class (assuming they know how to use it offcourse)

My L11 QE rocked on silver yesterday. In a match with a 19 soldier, 19 engineer, and 15 sentinel I ended up in 2nd spot. Granted, I specced for incinerate/cryo, not sentry gun, and I was rocking an Avenger X (AP+Dam) and Predator X (Dam+Ammo), but still.

I agree that there are a bunch of people who have either experienced great low level players or played well as a low level player. However I think the point is that in reality, in a public match a low level player is much, much more likely to be a burden than a boon.

When I'm playing my vanguard vs. Geth, I really could care less who's in my party. When I'm playing my SI w/ Avenger X, I know that even though i can score with it, I'm not going to be able to handle a wave 10 hack clutch so i'm probably going to vote to kick the N7 35 level 6 adept with the gps and mantis.

It's funny because it's true.  Actually had a N7 rank 1 join our Silver match last night.   Surprisingly, he handled himself pretty well.

It is rude for low level characters to show up on Silver. IF they have great weapons, AND they're willing to burn equipment, AND they have a decent N7, then chances are they'll be fine, but if not, maybe they're just awesome players and will do great regardless, but how is anyone to know that in advance? You don't want to go into a mission with someone who isn't likely to pull their weight, so to prevent that happening, you should gut out Bronze until at least level 10 for most classes. I don't vote to kick people for this, or leave the group over this, but it does annoy me.

I've never really encountered problems with people being too low a level for Silver until right now. They were all running around, ignoring the missions and not playing as a team. Generally, I don't whinge about players being a low level BUT beyond Bronze, you need to work together a little bit more.

And actually, this has nothing to do with levels, just people being incapable of working as a team -_-

This is the only time I'll look at N7 rank. If he/she has at least a 50, then they have played enough in my mind to handle silver. I personally haven't run into many issues, with this threshold.

I have played a couple of rounds with a N7/lvl 1 and watched how they got better after each round.

I dont play silver until I am level 10 if I can. However I did play as a level 8 accidentally today. The players asked what was up and I said I would change characters but they said dont worry about it. So I gave it ago, I didnt die once, but my decoy is the only reason I was even able to help.
However I definitely dont play gold until I am level 16/17

If the player is good enough, certain classes don't have a problem doing Silver at level 1. My friend routinely takes his Quarian Infiltrator into Silver after promotion and tops the charts at level 1. Hell I was topping the charts at level 5 in Silver when I unlocked Geth Infiltrator last night (FINALLY!). If you have a reasonable weapon (Mantis X, Black Widow, Widow V+), and you know what you are doing, it barely matters what level you are. Turian Sentinels can do similar things, though they aren't as good at crowd control. A strong Mattock with even one point in Overload and they can hold their own.

On the other hand, there are classes that have no business being in Silver at level 1. Vanguards and Adepts are both too reliant on power use and/or combo detonation to really be effective in Silver difficulty below level 10 or so. I take these characters into about 2 Bronze matches before jumping into Silver. But with an Infiltrator or Turian Sentinel I just jump into Silver and I do fine. But as I said, it totally depends on the player, and what weapons he has.

I personally don't feel comfortable playing a character on Silver unless it's level 15+. I feel like I need maxed fitness on most classes just because I play on PC and the bad connections/"Spacebar Does Everything" messes me up enough that I'd spend most of the match dying or dead otherwise.

I don't think it's fair to tell other people that they can't join if they use a low leveled class on any difficulty lower than Gold though. If we fail on wave one, we fail on wave one. No biggie.

I laugh when people say I'm too low for the match but they let me stay anyways. They all use level 20s and I still take top score or second place score while not fighting by their side. Then they call me a hacker and I laugh at them and just let them know plain and simple that they suck. It isn't the level, weapons, or weapon mods. It's the player skill that matters.

Silver is a joke. So is asking for a character to be a certain level to play it. I don't kick people for their character level on Silver, just dumb load outs. If you kick people on Silver because you're not able to clear it due to low level teammates, you should perhaps look at what you're doing wrong when you lose, not blame your teammates. That's the only real way to improve.

And people saying Vanguards shouldn't be playing Silver at level 1, Krogan Vanguard with a Graal Spike Thrower does fine if the player isn't stupid, and the Graal has a massive damage per second.

"I have a shotgun" - i mean Widow X. Give a proper weapon to just any class on silver and you're gonna be ok, just don't forget to change armament after several level ups. Low shields are an issue at close range mainly, so good ranged weapon solves the problem.

I prefer not to play teammates' nerves too much, so usually don't use lvl ones at silver. All my lvl 1 silver runs were forced. Joined a bronze lobby, than it's changed to silver.

the few rude responses this post received illustrate my point perfectly.

the question has very little to do with what it is possible to accomplish with a low level character and much more to do with how much trust i have in people i don't know that i have anonymous interaction with online, and how much they should expect me to have when they group for a public game.

players who look completely legitimate can still play poorly, or what's worse in my opinion, inconsiderately.  players who look suspicious are asking for extra trust.

especially to elitists who think that i s*ck because i can't win every silver, whatever my teammates' contribution: if your respect for me- not knowing me- is so little, why would you expect my respect for you, not knowing you either, to be any higher, when you want me to group in silver with your level 2 vanguard?

probably ought to mention, I'd take an N7 1 into silver if he said anything remotely normal sounding in his mic before I voted to kick.

But that's never actually occurred.

I go silver on lvl 10 and accept players with the same lvl as long as their loadout isn't idiotic like adept with widow and claymore.

I just keep an eye on them. won enough silver games with me and other 2 randoms so I'm used to carrying anyway. easy revives as well.

This.  I was in a silver random lobby and noticed there was a user with N7 level 7 with a level 7 character.  So around wave 5 everyone got overconfident and went off on their own and did their own thing.  I made a HUGE mistake of not picking up grenades (drell adept) and got killed, whereas the low level person was still running around doing his thing.  I knew exactly what I did wrong, and I learned a few things during that match.  A lot of my silver runs fail, and its not due to the fact that some people have an N7 level of 15 or whatever, its due to the fact that everyone just charges off and does their own thing rather than work together.  I also freely admit, I am not that great of a player and I find it nice to have a team that works together.

My point is, there is no such thing as being too low for silver.  For all you know, that person has played insanity level single player since release and can really get some kills up.

I probably COULD play with a level 1 on silver, but I never have. My first round after a promotion is always Bronze. I get 8-9 levels and get to laugh maniacally as my level 1 stomps face. Not terribly sporting, but it's fun.
