I was watching the Catalyst's speech for the first time since I've beat the game (otherwise I've just gone off of second-hand stuff) and had a question regarding a particular aspect of its defense. What I'm talking about is the question: if the catalyst controls the citadel, why does he need a vanguard to activate it? The defense of this (from what I've seen) is that the catalyst activates with the crucible. However, as I said I watched his speechy thang and noticed one of his lines contradicts this in a subtle way. He says that the crucible changed him and opened up possibilities. I may be taking a leap over logic, but I take that to mean that he existed previous to this, but now the activation of the crucible and Shepards arrival has changed his mind. So, i feel like the question still remains as to why the Catalyst needs Sovereign or any other Reaper to activate the citadel's relay. Thoughts from anyone, either side of this argument? I suppose we should all just wait until the DLC comes but... that's a while away (or feels like it anyway).
