But a person making a post that they miss their LI on a video game forum? Totally understandable. If you were kicking and screaming and making a fuss that you dropped your sandwich and that you were thoroughly pissed off, sure, then I'd say you're over-reacting. (Unless you're a poor college student in which I'll let it slide.) But making a harmless post stating that you care enough about a fictional character that you have a great deal of affection for, then you have every right to do so.
These boards are all about discussing these sorts of things. They exist for discussing lore and the characters. If you have a right to talk about how great Tuchanka's mission was or how much you dislike the Human Reaper, you have a right to discuss missing a character.
If I couldn't give even a bit of my attention or thoughts towards any form of entertainment, I may as well not enjoy my life. I'm sure as hell not going to be ungrateful I live in a part of the world where I have right to do so.

I know the feeling. I want to slap anyone that says something like that, when they have no idea what it means to have nothing. Not knowing where your next meal will come from and being depressed you can't see your make believe girlfriend are on different levels.
just because the reason behind it is different doesn't meen the emotions you feel are any less different from that of others.

I know what you mean, but as DA:O is "dark fantasy", this is probably the intention. Mass Effect 3 also gets dark/depressing at certain points, but that could have been a real good thing to make the player feel the loss of the war and how is everyone afraid of the Reapers even more. If they then made an ending that is an actual conclusion, with closure and satisfaction for the player in the end.The Divine Avenger wrote...
I couldn't get into DA:O by the time I finished the human noble storyline I felt like I wanted to hang myself lol
The characters were very well writen though I will agree on thatone but I just found the game a bit too depressing for my taste.
I might as well go to sleep now, but it seems we proved some points to several people here, good work. ;-)

You're escaping to video-games because some kids in Africa can't get a decent meal? I highly doubt that.
We all, all of us right here, care more about ourselves than the kids in Africa. We pretend we care about them, but we don't. If we did, we'd be doing something about their situation. But instead we're all complaining about a video-game on the internet. That alone shows how much we really care about the kids in Africa.

I escape into games because I wake up in the morning, unsure if i'll still have a job by the end of the day. Things are going to hell even in first world countries now, where folks face poverty from a crippling economy.
Very soon, third world problems could well become the same thing as first world problems. And it seems like its only going to get worse.

So if you're so much better, stop buying games and give that money to charity.
I see three titles under your avatar. That's $180 that could have feed those children.
I never said I was immune to creature comforts. Mass effect 3 is one of the 3 games I will buy this year. I do what I can though. Key bit of diffrence here is I am not the one acting like losing a fictional girlfriend is a real life problem.
This forum has accomplished a great bit through it's riotous anger. Got Forbes and the BBB to take notice. EA was voted worst company in America thanks in large part to your efforts, beating out banks that are happy to kick a family out of it's home. You raised 50k for child's play, all in the name of a better ending.....and the fight still rages on.
Imagine if all that effort and anger where actually aimed at something that really mattered.

One of my friends really likes Tali because her personality is something that he really likes in real girls. I think that's reasonable.
And of course, there are ways that you can relate to the characters which make you feel even closer to them.
Not to mention people have had 5 years to interact with and get to know the characters.

Well, that we agree on.
I'm currently still going to college, but for me there is the uncertainty of being able to get a job at all. I'm studing game-design. I'm working my ass off to become the best 3d environment designer I can be. I hope that within 2 years, my 3d modeling skills and my game-design knowledge will be enough to get myself a job in the video-game industry, But even the video-game industry is feeling the upcoming sh*tstorm. I hope that when I'm graduated, that there still is a game-industy left.
The difference between you and me however, is that instead of escaping to video-games, I'm working my ass off to secure my future. Of course comparing your situation and mine is not very fair, since you already have a job (that you can lose) and I'm still studying in the hope I'll get a job in the future.

First: I'm not trolling. Learn to see the difference between a troll and someone who just voices his/her opinion that is actually different from yours.
Second: The Witcher forum still seems to be down, so I'm hanging here a little longer.
Third: New comments are posted in this topic, resulting in new discussions, resulting in me having something to say again.

Well, good luck with that. I have two degrees in Computer construction and maintenance, and still ended up in a basic job because all the Computer jobs have dried up. I worked my ass off too. In my teen years, there was no real time to lose myself in games.
But now, as a man in his late 20's, married and still working (Thankfully), I find that I am beginning to tire of life in general. I mean, my wife makes my life VERY bearable, she's one of the greatest things in my life. But I like to lose myself in my games now, to escape the encroaching boredom that comes from my prolonged lifespan.
Maybe in a few years, when you get to around my age, it'll start to make sense.

I have a feeling that this won't be the end. Partly due to the fact that its EA, who wants more money, and because Bioware isn't as bad as they are made out to be, in fact very few people from the forums have met themThe Divine Avenger wrote...

Exactly, you get it. It is not evidence for any people being weird, or freaks, nerds or anything but that BioWare managed to create such an intense bond between player and characters, with awesome writing and very good dialog and voice actors, that some, maybe the more sensitive players now feel depressed and hurt, knowing how it all had to end.
yup it's just a shame the end of the escape is just as depressing as life

I openly refer to Tali as my 'waifu' mostly as a joke, but there's still an ounce of truth to that. It doesn't make me some sadsack basement dwelling perv, it's just an indulgence of mine and I'm not ashamed of it. People can grow attached to fictional characters without sacrificing their social-understanding, yes she's not real, but that doesn't mean I won't be upset if she's mistreated.

i wish i had more facetime with my LI in ME3. i wasnt expecting my romance to come to fruition at the end of ME3 considering i was with ash since ME1. i wanted to start banging ash immediately. not at the same point new players trying to romance ash would get.
