Hornet, without question.

Anybody who thinks otherwise, either a) doesn't shoot from the hip with the Hornet B) can't adjust to recoil which is manageable even without a Turian c) is trying to shoot across the map, which no SMG is particularly good for.

If you're going to be sniping/shooting at range, bring a Carnifex. The Hornet weighs next to nothing and is a buzzsaw at short to intermediate range.

For Gold, you need to use AP or Warp rounds, but this is the case for every automatic weapon thanks to BW's stupid 50 point damage reduction factor at that difficulty level.

Like an earlier poster said, if you can't wreck a map with the Hornet, you're doing it wrong.

I tried pairing my frequently empty Carnifex with all of the smgs except the Hornet (too heavy) because they didn't change the cooldown too much. I found that the empty Carnifex was more effective.

I would say Tempest. It has 56 damage so it can actually make it past the gold armor block. with 90 bullets with a magazine bonus and pretty accurate fire along with being very light weight. It is a great choice as a main weapon or side weapon.

Either the Hurricane or the Geth Plasma SMG.

The Hornet is okay.... but only on my trollguard. :P

There are a couple of things to keep in mind here. The Hornet is a run and gun weapon, and mates very well with an interrupt and fire playstyle. Turians with Overload or Concussive Shot are very successful following up their tech abilities (also great with Carnage, ED, pretty much anything with a stagger) with shots from this gun. But fire it from cover and it's crap thanks to its high zoomed recoil.

The Geth Plasma on the other hand, is very good from cover...although the windup leaves you exposed longer than other weapons. But the lack of instant DPS and picky aim makes it nearly useless on the run. SMGs are meant to be used on the run. If you're going to aim from cover, why not a AR or Heavy Pistol?

I haven't used my Hurricane in a while, but if I remember correctly, I couldn't fire it effectively on the move, other than in short bursts to control muzzle climb, and the aim was similarly finicky.

The Hornet does more damage and is just more forgiving... though the hip-fire recoil takes a little time to get used to.

I like the Tempest X with the magazine and extended barrel upgrades on my Turian Soldier. I have to run around using it at shotgun range, but it kills quickly and can shoot for quite a while, even with Marksman.

the only time i ever use a smg is with my adept and engineer characters and only to help keep the combos going.and to keep my recharge rate at 200. geth smg sprays the best therefore is the best for what i use smg for.

I think Hornet fills more roles the best out of any. Damage is decent, range is decent, control is decent (w/o sights),

Still, I feel most of the SMGs don't graduate beyond sidearm status. That wouldn't be a bad thing at all if it weren't for ULM still being broken.

I like my Hornet V. Reliable sidearm I use along side my Carnifex that deals enough damage for me to run and gun.

ForkInSocket speaks teh truth about the Hornet. It's very good on Human Adepts, because you're usually in the face of the enemies due to Shockwave. The Hurricane might be the only one that's better but it's harder to manage.

Hornet is a gigantic POS which relies extreemely heavily on recoil dampening effects (mods/being a Turian). It's a dust collector, at best.

It's a severe case of don't blame the weapon, blame the player <_<  It's hilarious how many think the best high-ROF gun in the game - by a large margin - sucks just because they can't deal with a slight recoil that is, in fact, very simple to deal with.

Well Vanguards and soldiers are the only classes I consider taking a smg with. The hornet works well with a Vanguard.

I'm in love with my Geth Plasma SMG. Very handy as an Asari Vanguard (with enchants +200% recharge speed).

wow I can not believe all the guys saying the Hornet is crap!?

it is one of the best weapon choices esp. for a vanguard on higher difficulty lvls, where you cant solo everthing.

all you have to do is repeatedly pull the trigger and ALWAYS use hipfire, simple as that!
I would say "you're doing it wrong", but I hate memes ;) and I would probably have to get into the discussion on why everyone is doing it wrong with the striker as well :P

I like the GPSMG, good for anti-shield duties. I haven't used it at all however since I unlocked The Meatmaker.

Hornet by far. People who dismiss the gun, well, you're doing it wrong.

SMGs are viable. They are support guns, they are not intended to deliver the killing blow. They are intended to strip shieldsand set up cryogenic/fire explosions, tech bursts etc.

If you spam a mob with an smg stripping all shields, get them nice and frosty... many power wielders in your group (and probably yourself) will love you for it.

Shuriken's decent (the burst fire gives it accuracy), and the Locust's okay for lightweight suppressive fire (i.e. on a snipy Infiltrator when you've just fired your one-shot and need to GTFO).

I have a a asari vanguard speced for rolling Biotic Charge I play for fun. The Tempest with barrel and extra clips works quite well on her. Allows me to BC and put head burst into whatever is still living until I can BC again.

The hurricane is good if you are just going to point-blank shot it. I give it both ammo upgrades and use it for one of my guys who is sniping in case he gets in hand-to-hand; just hip fire and it kills much faster than melee.

The best SMG is any one that the guy shooting at you is using. Because you know you're safe and sound if he's using that.
