How would you have reacted to a totally predictable, undaring, unartistic, paint-by-the-numbers happy ending?

Let's say the crucible let loose a kill signal that powered off the reapers.  The galaxy is saved and Shepard gets to live happily ever after with his or her LI (until ME3: Awakening DLC is released).

Would you have raged?

I want Bioware to see your replies.

EDIT: Absence of plotholes is a given in this scenario.  Continue.

No one would have raged, at least not on this level.

Someone had to put effort to making the ending as bad as it is now.

I am still in AWE over it.

I would have been fine with it if it felt Earned.

Bioware made mention in pre-launch marketing that it was possible to LOSE, and the Reapers complete the cycle. What many expected was a range of possibe outcomes from losing and dying, to winning and dying, to winning and living, with variations in between of what happens to Earth and everyone else.

I would have said the ending was a bit too bland and then proceed to praise the fantastic rest of the game

I pretty much thought that's what was going to happen. I was prepared to proclaim it the best ending to the best series of games I'd ever played.

And you can't do that now? Er... OK?

I would've ho hummed at a mediocre ending. But at least it wouldn't have destroyed the entire trilogy for me.

I really don't care about LI's. If the game had multiple endings that were influenced by your choices, then I would be completely satisfied.

No, no a lot of us can't. The fact that this needs to be explained to you shows how you don't pay attention.

- A mediocre happy ending would leave the trilogy intact.
- The current ending destroys EVERYTHING we've ever done in the name of surrendering to King Reaper and betraying everyone we know to a new dark age.

Depends on how it was presented. Although anything without the dumb kid already has an advantage.

If the game just stopped like it does now, I can't imagine being any more satisfied with it than I am with the current rot.

And everybody can already survive ME3. It's just that the way it's presented makes it meaningless (if it's even to be believed).

No, I would have been somewhat disappointed that they did that (although such an ending would still grant the game replay value.) But it would be SO much more satisfactory than the current ending(s) I think that the "happily ever after" ending should be in the game if you worked your ass off enough to get it. Though I think that the "standard" ending of the game should have been very sad but also make you feel like Shepard died and saved the galaxy from the reapers. We never get that in the endings and instead we get the cursed....
SPECULATIONS
And entirely happy ending or not I want Shepard to live with Tali on Rannoch. I mean c'mon why can't everyone get something equivalent to that with their love interest's? The ending of The Shawshank Redemption (widely considered one of the best movies ever made) has a happily ever after ending that is similar, where two characters have the chance to live out the rest of their lives in peace. Plus anyone aboard the Normandy DESERVES an ending like that for all the horrible things they've been through. Just my opinion though.

Depends upon execution. I would have been ok with our current endings if they were adequately explained, well written, made sense and integrated our decisions somehow.

A predictable and undaring ending could go either way

I would have been perfectly happy with it, seeing as I felt I'd worked pretty darned hard for the best possible ending (every single side quest done across all games, etc). If there was a less happy ending/Shepard dies ending included for really low EMS as well, then that would be even better - but really, a reasonably happy ending for my Shep with her LI was all I wanted.

This is one of the possibilities I expected. I expected multiple endings with one like this. And I would have LOVED it.

As the only ending to the trilogy it would've been disappointing obviously but if that was the ending I had received (6900 EMS) and there were less happy endings available for those who believe an ending has to be sad to be good, then I would've been very happy personally.

Your title seems to imply that the ending we got is daring and artistic, when in fact it is neither. It's just bad writing, that's all.

And a Disney ending wouldn't be the only feasible alternative to the convoluted mess we've got. Far from it. ME3 itself is filled with beautifully written and executed scenes. It's only those final five minutes that totally ruin everything.

But for the sake of the original question:

If ME3 had culminated in a mediocre and slightly sappy happy ending, I would have been slightly disappointed, but not to the point where I would have been outraged (unless they handled it as poorly as the one we got now, in which case it wouldn't be mediocre and predictable, but just goddamn awful).

I would have been disappointed, definitely; I would have expected more creativity than that from Bioware.  But I'm certain that I wouldn't have felt angry, the way I did after the actual ending debacle.

What we got wasn't just disappointing as a piece of fiction.  It was so bad and so emotionally/thematically off-key that it made me feel like a chump for trusting Bioware and getting invested in the story they were telling, and it cast a shadow back over everything they'd done in the series to that point.

A forgettable, Hollywood happy ending would have made me think "Eh, they kind of phoned in the ending," but I wouldn't have cared so much because it wouldn't have ruined the earlier stuff for me, which I thought was mostly outstanding.

All I have to say is that the ME1 ending was pretty predictable (Shepard appears out of the rubble! OhMyGosh!!!) and it is still highly regarded.

In all honesty, I would have said something along the lines of: "... huh. No Reapers win scenario? Shame, that could have been so much better. Oh well, I got my Turian babies. Moving on!"

That depends. Is this hypothetical ending written well, with a believable course of events that are consistent with the tone and events of the rest of the series? Or would it be full of plot holes, retcons, contradictions, and all those other nasty literary buzzwords, just like the real endings have now?

Oh, one more thing. Here's what would really make me rage: If Paragon = Total Victory, and Renegade = Total Failure.
