How would you have reacted to a totally predictable, undaring, unartistic, paint-by-the-numbers happy ending?

Only problem I had with the ending is i made so many choices and saw about three of them in the final battle. Should've had Rachni and Batarians forming a line and Quarians riding on the backs of Geth Primes into battle supported by Elcor Vanguards and stuff like that.

What I'm wondering is whether Bioware wrote a bad ending on purpose to create controversies or if they really did mess up big time. I'm leaning toward the former being true.

It was some chode's retarded attempt at a rushed Deus Ex clone.

Heck, Shepard squatting down and taking a dump then tossing it at the camera and doing a double middle doodoo encrusted finger pump while laughing maniacally would at least have been more honest.
I would even take the ending where reapers turn into ice cream and Wrex brings you a cake ending comic at this point.

After all the death, sacrifice and sore fingers from shooting so many cannibals, husks, etc in the face, I think Shep deserved a better ending than choose the colour of his suicide. So yeah I would have been happy with a ending where (s)he shoves a nuke in Harbinger's ass..says something appropriate..then remote detonates it.. then fires the crucible.. all Reapers die horribly.. everbody gets drunk and live happily ever after, oh and there must be lots of blue babies and Krogan toddlers laughing and running everywhere..
Hey I would have loved that oo. Hey it's what Sheriadan would have done and JMS won two Hugos for writing him that way. Anything is better then the ending we have now that makes everything you did pointless.

And it's not a freaking Disney ending with millions already dead, y'know.

The ending the OP describes is basically what I expected. Plus a couple cutscenes showing my war assets or something. It wouldn't have been great, but certainly better than a nonsensical last-minute plot twist.

Not to mention all the squadmates Shepard lost including two of my favorite characters, how is that a Disney ending again?

I would have been happy... I play video games to get away from crapy reality.
You seem to agree with my Dad.

Yeah my life is depressing enough. I play video games and watch movies to escape. Hence my favorite games are ones where I can win and my favorite movies last year with The Muppets and TinTin. Real life is depressing enough with out my entertainment being depressing too. I gave up on BSG in the middle of season 3 because it was too depressing,I don't need that sort of thing as the only option in a game that is supposed to be about choices.

I play RPG to pretend I have different destiny. I can be king if I wanted to, get the princess, become world famous, a rockstar, a hero, and even universe's biggest jerk.
Some here died at the end of their story. Yes. I know. But seeing what my death would have bring and sense of accomplishment would have been worth it.
Mediocre ending is fine. I can still enjoy the journey.
ME3 ending is a big FU (to me.... ). I really dont want to go on a journey where what I will get at the end is a big FU. I have real job for that.

And if the ''happy ending'' came after that part with Anderson and TIM on the Citadel, I would have really liked, wouldn't even be like ''meh'', more like slow clap.

Well said. People have always used entertaiment to escape from real life. Even in Shakespear's day. His most populare plays at the time where ones like Henry the V,where people got to escape from their lives and see a hero overcome huge odds and get the girl in the end. In fact Shakespear ending Henry the V with out showing Henry dying at age 35 and instead ended it on his greatest victory so that people would leave the theater feeling uplifted. There is nothing wrong with uplifting art.
