How would you have reacted to a totally predictable, undaring, unartistic, paint-by-the-numbers happy ending?

After all the death, sacrifice and sore fingers from shooting so many cannibals, husks, etc in the face, I think Shep deserved a better ending than choose the colour of his suicide. So yeah I would have been happy with a ending where (s)he shoves a nuke in Harbinger's ass..says something appropriate..then remote detonates it.. then fires the crucible.. all Reapers die horribly.. everbody gets drunk and live happily ever after, oh and there must be lots of blue babies and Krogan toddlers laughing and running everywhere..

this is one of the ending I expected I knew that shepherd death was a likely possibility and one that I also knew could be good the got it right in DAO so why not in ME3? Also on the other end I expected there to be a happy ending as well again that was also possible in DAO but even if it was a stranded happily ever after shepherd rides of into the sun set with LI that would of been fine and would of left me feeling satisfied and rewarded. also I feel that regardless of the ending a game of this size needed a proper epilogue

I'd have been fine with it, but I liked the current ending too.

Only problem I had with the ending is i made so many choices and saw about three of them in the final battle. Should've had Rachni and Batarians forming a line and Quarians riding on the backs of Geth Primes into battle supported by Elcor Vanguards and stuff like that.

When I finished the game and saw all 3 endings, I knew that something was up. Bioware is such a talented bunch to be messing up this bad so when I heard there was an extended cut DLC for the ending, I was very excited. And with the various twitter notes about how it "won't be just a few cutscenes" and more "personalization," I was even more ecstatic.

What I'm wondering is whether Bioware wrote a bad ending on purpose to create controversies or if they really did mess up big time. I'm leaning toward the former being true.

As long as I felt like I earned it I would be happy, kinda like ME2.

This seems to assert that the ending was daring, or artistic.

It wasn't.

It was some chode's retarded attempt at a rushed Deus Ex clone.

Provided that this happy ending doesn't talk about reapers motivations and shows what actually happens to the crew and the various races, I'd prefer it.

Anything, and I mean anything would have been better than what we had.

Heck, Shepard squatting down and taking a dump then tossing it at the camera and doing a double middle doodoo encrusted finger pump while laughing maniacally would at least have been more honest.

I would even take the ending where reapers turn into ice cream and Wrex brings you a cake ending comic at this point.

Hey I would have loved that oo.  Hey it's what Sheriadan would have done and JMS won two Hugos for writing him that way.  Anything is better then the ending we have now that makes everything you did pointless.

The ending the OP describes is basically what I expected. Plus a couple cutscenes showing my war assets or something. It wouldn't have been great, but certainly better than a nonsensical last-minute plot twist.

And it's not a freaking Disney ending with millions already dead, y'know.

It depends. Why did the Crucible have a kill signal for the Reapers? Did the races before discover the signal and simply ran out of time? Or did Shepard discover it?

Nothing wrong with playing it safe in the end. The ending can even be forgettable, and the game would pretty much be enjoying almost complete praise.

Not to mention all the squadmates Shepard lost including two of my favorite characters, how is that a Disney ending again?

To OP, I would have said that the ending was lackluster but at least it made sense. Probably would have pointed out how that still lacks the variety of ending we were promised.

Yeah, people would have raged over it just as people raged over the ending to that piece of trash original Star Wars trilogy that flopped at the box office and is now completely forgotten as a franchise.

I would've loved it. Especially after how grim-dark the rest of the game was. Would've felt very satisfying having a happy end.

You seem to agree with my Dad.

Yeah my life is depressing enough.  I play video games and watch movies to escape.  Hence my favorite games are ones where I can win and my favorite movies last year with The Muppets and TinTin.  Real life is depressing enough with out my entertainment being depressing too. I gave up on BSG in the middle of season 3 because it was too depressing,I don't need that sort of thing as the only option in a game that is supposed to be about choices.

Im old.... I have kid, wife, stupidly big mortgage, crappy job, and all other "privilege" that Real Life ™ afforded me. I liked to watch disney movies. they made me happy.
I play RPG to pretend I have different destiny. I can be king if I wanted to, get the princess, become world famous, a rockstar, a hero, and even universe's biggest jerk.
Some here died at the end of their story. Yes. I know. But seeing what my death would have bring and sense of accomplishment would have been worth it.

Mediocre ending is fine. I can still enjoy the journey.
ME3 ending is a big FU (to me.... ). I really dont want to go on a journey where what I will get at the end is a big FU. I have real job for that.

I would be like ''meh'' but definitively not sad or angry like with the current endings.

And if the ''happy ending'' came after that part with Anderson and TIM on the Citadel, I would have really liked, wouldn't even be like ''meh'', more like slow clap.

I would have been happy with that ending, as long as it is one of the *many* endings that occurred as the *consequences* of Shepard's actions. They said ME games are supposed to be RPG, but so far endings feel forced and out of place, and no matter what you did the past games, it will always result in the same ending anyway.

Well said.  People have always used entertaiment to escape from real life.  Even in Shakespear's day. His most populare plays at the time where ones like Henry the V,where people got to escape from their lives and see a hero overcome huge odds and get the girl in the end. In fact Shakespear ending Henry the V with out showing Henry dying at age 35 and instead ended it on his greatest victory so that people would leave the theater feeling uplifted.  There is nothing wrong with uplifting art.

"Mediocre/Sappy/Happy/Disney" endings beats "Bitc*-Slap-Me-Accross-The-Face/Incomplete/Zero-Closure" ending everytime. I think I seriously would be happier if my XBox RRoD'd me at the last second and I somehow never found out what they did.

If it was too easy to achieve, I may have been a bit disappointed but I certainly wouldn't have hated it. If I felt I earned it (even if it required playing multiplayer), I probably would have loved it.
