Both Jowan (aka Tool) and Lilly (aka Fool) were both in their underware when we got caught.

So what I want to know is how Jowan managed to hide such a large knife in his briefs? I could understand if he hid it in Fool's bra OvO, but Tool's briefs are a bit on the abbreviated side....

And yes, Tool is a loser with a grating, whiney voice. He used the mages, he used Lilly (who by the way is in prison--what about her needs?) and he used me. Tool blames everyone because his mom slapped him in the face instead of the butt when he was born. Awww.

Tool deserves to die. If for no other reason than to shut his whiney yap up permanently. I wonder what Fool would say if she was asked about what to do vis-a-vis Tool?   Probably forgive him.....although the chantry in DOA seems to be rather bloodthirsty....or should I say, bloodsplattered??

I know.....FATALITY!!!!!    (Sorry,,,,that's Mortal Kombat)

I'm so glad that I am not the only person who hates this character w/ a blind passion.  The only character I hate more is Howe in the HN Origin, but that's a cool kind of hate. As much as I love playing a mage the experience is almost ruined for me by this character.  I don't know whether I should applaud BioWare for making me feel  this much hatred or decry them as bad writers for not giving Jowan any redeeming qualities whatsoever.  I almost  feel sorry for Lily.  Had she be put in prison for falling for such a douche, I would be behind it, but she is punished because of politics.  Also, if you rat out Jowen and Lily there is no way to save her and no way to progress w/ the game if you refuse Irving's plan.  Kind of wish there was an option to make Jowan tranquil and boot Lily out of the Chantry, but keep her out of the political heat.
And what does this say about my mage, that Jowan is her best friend?  Pretty sad.

I don't mind Jowan, in fact, I rather like him. He can't help it if he's the most irrational character in the game besides Isolde. He's completely out of his depth all the time, leaping from one disaster to another, with no idea as to why these things keep happening to him. It's really quite sad. It's too bad he didn't end up being a companion as originally intended. He'd probably do much better with someone telling him exactly what to do all the time, and the PC has a way of being able to help his/her companions move past their difficulties. He showed a lot of resolution in the fade. I expect that's the kind of person he would have grown into.

I think the biggest problem with Jowan, apart for the fact he is a whinny douche and that you're essentially given no reason to believe you would ever be friends with him, well apart for Bioware's say so. Is that you are railroaded into helping whether or not you report him to Irving.

If their had been an option to tell Irving to cram it and that you were reporting Jowan to Gregoir any ways, it would of probably made a big difference. As it is the Mage Origin, sadly is second only in annoyance to Ostagar repeats and the Fade.

Now that would have at least been interesting.  Being able to conscript Jowan would have won no favor from Arl Eaman and his kin, but Jowan might have turned into a real asset w/ the right guidance. Failing that, you could always kill him again.:)

I think my biggest frustration w/ Jowan comes in the Gauntlet.  While I like the little banter you get w/ him if you see through the trick, my frustration is that I failed Jowan, not because we could have been quicker or taken a differnet route, but because I didn't get a chance to beat some sense into him before the whole mess started.

The Gauntlet? You can't be talking about the Urn quest, so I'm guessing you might be talking about an encounter that I haven't played, so don't say any more. 'kay?

No, it's part of the Gauntlet when you confront someone from your past. I seem to remember you like to play HNs so you will mostly see Teyrn Cousland there. Mages get Jowan.

i felt bad for him, he was enjoying his life and then it all fell apart (partly because he was an idiot but whatever). during my mage playthrough i wanted to make sure he wasn't executed. i really wanted him in my party though, would have been awesome because then maybe i could have found out more about my own mage.

Ah! I see! I guess that confirms that the mage's circle has him executed instead of imprisoned, huh? I tried to save him by letting him redeem himself in the fade, but I guess that didn't do any good. What's the point in keeping Eamon from executing him then?

I killed him myself before helping the Arl. When the Arl came to, he called Jowan up from the dungeon, alive and well. I almost **** bricks. I told the Arl to kill him again, heh.

The Circle probably makes him a tranquil. CE see Shianni and she stays alive throughout the entire game.

Oh, so he wasn't a ghost then, just someone from my memories--Bryce, that is. Okay, got it. ;)

Count me as one of the Jowain haters. I have played a mage at least 5 times and played it from going along with the premise that we were best friends to playing it how I really felt - that he was an whiney idiot. The last mage I made I was going through the voices in character creation and tried the sultry male voice. OMG it was Jowain's voice! I said "oh h*ll no!". There was no way I was going to play a character with that voice the whole game.

I used to really hate this guy then someone on the forums told me to ask Teagan for my mage to execute him and go talk to him about why he started learning blood magic in the first place. Considering hes such a screw up that he mans up at the end and accepts responsibility for his actions, not even offering a "Teryn Loghain MADE me do it" as he quite obviously is capable of making his own choices even if they are fubared choices I finally gained a measure of respect for the character.

He genuinely loved Lily and loved her to the very end. He even still considers the PC a friend (Mine betrayed him and Lily to Irving) and even if you execute him yourself or allow Eamon to order it (or the Circle to have him) his last word to you is to call you "friend".

He's whiney, childish and annoying in the mage origin, but he grows quite a bit into a sincere young man in his experiences in Redcliffe. Its a pity his poor choices ended up hurting so many but thats the nature of this game, that some of the simplest things we don't know can create horrific consequences later. He's well written and I am a lot more sympathetic after a couple mage playthroughs now.

*Edit* my Dalish was a big believer in "Second chances" and even allowed Jowan to make the trip into the Fade (In the hopes that I could convince the Circle to let him prove himself).  Sending Jowan in is a REAL challenge and was a lot of fun for me as his spell collection isn't that great and he has no access to potions.
