fairly heavy. If you're concerned over weight, use a disciple.

spare thermal clip affects how many spare clips you carry. The heatsink
mod for pistols increases the number of shots before popping a
heatsink. Most people would agree the latter is better.

Smart choke doesn't affect the GPS, because it homes in. It's still lighter than the GPS.

Let's say weight were a real issue. With which classes would you have 200% power using the talon?
I personally have the talon at 4, it never goes on any of my chars because there is always a better choice.

You'll see the GPS and GST at X likely long before you'll see the Talon at the same, so you'll be looking at those guns at max potential long before. However what sets the Talon apart more than anything is reload speed and ability to fire more rounds before needing to reload. For a Vanguard or CQC Melee character this is an important extremely important. Literally and we are of course talking Gold if you reload at the wrong moment you'll die.

I've solo'd bronze once with my human soldier and the talon. It was a surprising amount of fun.
Then I went back to gold where both, the class and the weapon, are useless.

This. it's like a shotgun, except it sucks and it's heavy too, considering it's much harder to upgrade than the other shotguns.

I don't get that people say it has range at all, a shotgun with a choke much has much better range than the talon.

You guys must be using the Talon the wrong. Its what a shotgun should be but somehow is a pistol.

After the update

Talon Heavy Pistol
- Damage increased from [72.1-90.1] to [86.5-108.1]
It fires 6 pellets so the damage after the update even at base 1 is a staggering 519 damage.

-Eviscerator [60-74.9]
If all pellets hit, it is 599 at X.

The Talon weighs as much as a Katana, Evic, Schimitar, Wraith 
 
Used the bottom for reference but the weapons don't show the updatde multiplayer stats.
