The Geth Plasma Shotgun with choke and barrel extension will knock down about anything in one hit, at any range. This alone can substitute for everything but rapid fire supression...it simply gets swamped from being slow. It's a great sniper weapon, a great "in-your-face" weapon, and really good at putting down vermin in general. So long as you don't want their head to mount on the wall. If I use anything other than the M-13 Raptor, it is  usually the Geth Plasma Shotgun and a backup pistol or assault rifle. Worked out incredibly well on the Sentinel. Works out reasonably well on anything you don't require fast biotics from. I have a lot more fum with the M-13 though.

I actually liked the weight system. It made it possible to "rp" a little. You dont carry guns you dont need an that you arent profecient with. However given the lacklustre small unit tactics, the barrel rolls, and that I found the AI dumber than ME2 once again it was a case of "one step forward, ten backwards". Counterproductive.

Weight system is good idea, but mediocre implementation and execution ruins everything.

Not to mention shotguns' strange spread model, making them practically point blank weapons, with few exceptions, like Crusader, Graal and somewhat GPS.

Regardless of that, I used shotguns (as well as all other types of weapons) in all of my playthroughs as soldier. Tend to use Crusader most of the time, for accuracy sake.

I actually like the weight system. I didn't like carrying all the junk such as an smg and a pistol as well as a heavy weapon and a rifle as we did in ME2. I usually carry the Raptor and the Tempest or the Phaeston and the Locust. So my cool down is always +200% which makes my Sentinel on Insanity very effective. I've never used shotguns simply because I do not find them to be of any use for my play style.

With my Sentinel Shep, Shotgun is the only weapon I use really - modded Scimitar with smart choke and high cal barrel. BOOM!

The M-22 Eviscerator is one of my favourite weapons in the game - I took it everywhere on my Vanguard and often found a reason to carry it on my other classes too.

My soldier used them rather requently, second only to assault rifles. But I didn't use powers enough for the encomberance to really matter.

Weight is a good system to finally make people make decision on inventory rather than the usual RPG silliness of carrying every known gun and suit of armor into battle on your invisible burro or something.

I used a shotguns consistently as a vanguard. Charge, cause bowling pin action, fire at close range to finish off the survivors. I've seen in MP a lot of infiltrators put them to good use by getting up close and personal while cloaked and then ending things badly.

You can carry Disciple (piercing+damage) and Carniflex (damage+scope) in MP and still get +160% cooldown, which I think tends to work fairly well with the Carniflex as the main weapon and the shotgun for when guardians (or whatever) get too close. In SP, on the other hand, there's armour piercing ammo so I'd grab the Falcon instead.

I only carry my favorite assault rifle and my Specter pistol fully upgraded, with the significant lack of weight, I dominate fights with the concussion shot

Shotgun? What? I got a revenant rifle. I need no other weapon in my arsenal.

did my playthrough as a Vanguard, and shotgun's really the ONLY gun I used! I used the Asari shotgun Disciple, along with a pistol AND SMG, and the weight wasnt an issue in the slightest. On the contrary, the Disciple is so light, I had a +200 cooldown bonus for my powers by the end.

Try upgrading your weapons.

Actually, I did, Used the Graal spike thrower with smart choke V, pretty accurate, given you've taken cover, its even way more accurate, even from mid range.

Playing as Soldier I used over and over the Geth shotgun, nice killing device...... I don't care about weight, when playing soldier I don't use powers frequently, only Adrenaline Rush on hardest moments.

And I don't think the weight system is a bad system...... the point is to find the balance between firepower and powers efficiency that you like most, needing to plan how you approach missions, not to give you the chance to use any weapon you like...... and this system manages to do so

Plenty of times. I used the Disciple quite a bit. As a Soldier most of the others wound up being superfluous to my needs.

Towards the end, though, I mostly quit using it in favor of a Talon.

Best vanguard gun there is. Now, as an adept, solder, or sentinel, not so much. Engineer maybe, but not the afore mentioned. Geth plasma or krogan nail gun, absolute terror as a vanguard. The claymore is too heavy. My adept gun was a paladin (sights and barrel, nice snipe with alot of power). Sentinel was a mattock and lightest sniper. Solder was alot of things (mattock, sentinel, and the lightest sniper got the job done with 180 cooldown).

As a side note, I really miss the old class-based weapon syetem. In ME2 I thought it was good enough and you would have the option of getting one more bonus weapon training. The system worked and I miss it dearly. *sighs* :P

THAT and then some! At least give us more upgrade slots or something!?

Anyway, I was surprised to find my Infiltrator loving the array of shotguns almost as much as sniper rifles. I didnt care too much about the weight penalty - I just ditched pistols and SMGs (which I've found severely lacking in ME3) which I never use anyway. Was also surprised to find assault rifles as one of my new best friends as an Infiltrator too.

I used the Wraith a fair bit in the SP.

I normally play as an infiltrator with the Black Widow and an SMG, but I mixed it up and went for the mantis (really light for almost Widow-level damage) and the Wraith.

Still a pretty decent recharge rate (around -100% or so I think) and the Wraith does immense damage when combined with cloak. On insanity it was a life-saver. Mantis for the long range stuff, Wraith for when your foes want to get all close and personal with you.

However, overall I don't use shotguns that much. I never really use them in the MP, and apart from my infiltrator I rarely use them in the SP.

I just use the Indra on my Vanguard. There's nothing that can withstand a couple biotic charges, some novas, and a magazine or two from the Indra. Plus, it gives me 200% cooldown with a heavy pistol like the Carnifex.

I did my Vanguard playthrough with a shotgun and an assault rifle. The shotgun is mandatory for charging at fools and blasting them in the face, which is my primary mode of attack when playing as a vanguard. If anything, bringing the AR is questionable. For ranged situations, a Carnifex with a scope does the trick too. But I like assault rifles.
