There's definitely too damn much ammo in the game.

I noticed that as well.  If it's doable to take only one weapon (and a low ammo one at that) for most of the game without running out of ammo much, it cuts down considerably on taking more weapons with you and killing your cooldowns.  As it is, unless you really like having multiple weapons, there's not a whole lot of reason to take more than one or two with you.  Especially if you can mod some of them to do double duty (pistol with a scope, anyone?).

Suppose if you're not about using many of the skills in the game, you'd load up completely and just rampage with all your weapons..... but, game without using your powers, blah

I rarely used any of the non-ammo powers as a soldier, and ammo was not a problem. I almost never used Adrenaline Rush, so 200% cooldown on powers was not an issue. Having to scroll through unwanted weapons to switch to the one I wanted, or having to pause the game with shift and select my sniper rifle, so that I could quick-swap between that and the assault rifle, was a bit annoying though.

It would have been nice to have each weapon class mapped to a key, like in ME1. But it is nice in this game that the player can opt to leave behind useless weapon classes (i.e. shotguns).

I had all weapons equipped and still had a recharge bonus. So I may be off here but it is completely possible. I have had some luck with no glitches or anything else so I may be the only one who pulled this off.

Used a shotgun for my Vanguard, either Wraith (Spectre shotgun) or Claymore, and the Paladin (Spectre pistol) w/ scope for when I needed a sniper rifle.

I play Vanguard in single player so I use shotguns quite a bit. I mainly use the Evisirator(I think that's how you spell it) until I can get the Wraith. I also use the Paladin.

I liked the weight limit schtick. It was reasonably realistic. You CAN'T carry every weapon under the sun nor can you fire any and all weapons under the sun. Same reason I like a small (read "REALISTIC") inventory system. You CANNOT carry the entire Library of Congress in your backpack, the entire stock of weapons on planet whatever, all the ammo to go with them, enough clothes to open up an outlet mall all on your own, etc.

You need to make choices and make trade-offs, Anything that makes you do so is a good thing™. I have spoken and that is enough for ANYONE. ;)

I was a Soldier with:
Widow
Particle Rifle / Phaeston
Crusader
Carnifex
Hurrican

-200% all the game no problems. I mainly used my Widow and Assault Rifle and switched to my crusader and other weapons after that, if I have wasted all my ammo.

The only weapon you actually need was a heavy pistol with scope and laser sight. Takes down everything. Be a man and use a pistol only.

Sheesh, what a bunch of mamby-pambies.

The weight system is very stupid. For exaple, being a soldier now is pointless to have powers, cuz they take up to 20 seconds to recharge if you run all weapons except SMG like in ME 2 and 1. Whoever thought of the system needs to be dragged out in the streets and shot.

Maybe soldiers should have had less of a penalty for weight but overall the weight system is good and much better than the alternative where the only reason to use weapons other than the ones you like was because you ran out of ammo.

If anything the weight system exacerbated that problem.  The thing is additional weapons have very little effect on your capabilities, your cooldowns do have an effect.  Basically the weight system sucked because it was an unbalanced mechanic that reinforced the just use your favorite weapon style because there is really no reason to use or even carry another.  If you find it fun to have more weapons or even all the weapons that is great go for it, it wont make you much if any more powerful. OTOH short cooldowns does make you more powerful. So why have a power based check on basically a fun based decision?

Vanguard carried a shotgun. Went through the whole game on insanity with it. Don't need to carry more than one weapon for any class.

I have an infiltrator with the Black Widow and Eviscerator. I never really notice the cooldown because I hardly use powers anyway.

Adept and Graal.

I know, I am OP for a level 60 Adept.

Works pretty well, the cooldown doesnt mean anything to me, especially when its not multiplayer. Scorpion and Graal pretty much summarize my playstyle with SP Adept.

Any haters gonna hate?

Love the soldier class myself, All you need is the right set of guns and you can not only can you use every type of weapon but also avoid any negative cooldowns.

That makes shotguns useless. It had been more useless when the ammo was short enough to kill a dozen of enemy.

I imagine that alot of people use Shotguns. I never do personally since I mainly play as a Soldier and because of the weight system there is too much of a penalty to carry both an Assault Rifle, a Sniper Rifle and a Shotgun at the same time ( not to mention anything else ) but from what I hear the Shotgun is the weapon of choice of Vanguards and to a lesser extent Infiltrators.

So, the weight of your weapon affects the recharge rate of your omni-tool and bio-amp, who came up with that idiotic idea? why not have weight actually affect physical movment, but i guess that would be too hard for Bioware.

lol, never used a shotgun. if they come close to me i just use the melee attack. a strong assault rifle does just fine.

Shotguns are kinda useless imo.

I've only ever needed an Assault Rifle, I never let my enemies get close enough to have to melee.

When ammo runs out, I quickly switch to a pistol or Sniper Rifle for precision headshots.

For the Single Player campaign, I stick with ARs and HPs, but when using the Infiltrator in multiplayer, I use the Claymore. Brilliant for cloaked attacks against bigger enemies and excellent for one-hit-killing of the lower level mooks.

Because Bioware couldn't continue to the model of only having different weapon types available to each class, like they did in ME2, and introduce a viable multiplayer option. The ME3 system is MUCH better.

Well shotguns are just fun. Efficiency never really played into it.

The game isn't terribly hard, vanguard with a Claymore was just... fun...? Didn't think much other reason was needed.
