Helps me take down them and others slightly faster than a Mattock or Widow.

Can't imagine playing without my shotgun.
Oh, and BTW: during my first playthrough I cared about the weight and had only two or three weapons at any time with me until priority earth. Then I checked that carrying 5 weapons was absolutely OK, so I stuck with that forever since (and I have finished the game 4 more times now).

Not only them being -100 to -200 encumberance but, they are only really good in close range, on top of that, 3 or 4 shots before you have to take an hour to reload the dang thing. Granted you can upgrade, but despite that fact, my load out has always been Assault Rifle and Pistol. Main weapon and backup in case I ran out of ammo. Not only does the assault rifle surprisingly way significantly less than the shotgun but great in all aspects of combat, if enemy gets close enough that a shotgun would be preferable, I just melee them so, that brings up the point again, who would use a shotgun opposed to equipping a lighter all around weapon?
With my load out Im 200 + and my powers recharge pretty much automatically and Im spamming concussion shots not giving the enemy a chance..... why oh why would I want a shotgun? Or Sniper rifle for that matter?
Crusader is a sniper rifle that uses buckshot, the only other gun I like as much as that is the Saber for one shot kills on regular infantry (Geth are just armoured, and almost impossible to one shot drop) or two for the heavier armoured enemies from the other side of the map.

But seriously, it really just depends on what you want to play. A Infiltrator can be very deadly with one of these, as can a Sentinel, a Soldier, a "you build it, you work it" character...

I think the problem wasn't the weight system, it was that it penalized you too much. Weapons giving you cooldowns of 30-40 seconds on powers . . . that's just ridiculous.
What? Weight system was a great addition that demands some actual decisions between weapons. It stands to reason that most powerful weapons should also weight the most.
