I'm still hoping this place can catch up to DANexus, but it has a very long way to go. Little is "perfect" at DANexus but it has what this site most significantly lacks: varied categories, advanced search feature, rating system, various file ordering/browsing modes, no WIPS, new files RSS etc.
varied categories
That's my biggest beef with the Nexus sites; I don't know where to look for files that I might want. At least with NWVault, I have some idea what will be in the generalized categories it has. I think the most recent update to the Projects page here is about perfect as far as categories go; we jus need a way to reclassify projects if we realize we made a mistake in classification.
advanced search feature
This we could use here for certain.
rating system
At this point, I could care less if there was such a thing on any site, since in my opinion it tends to give distorted data since most everyone votes the highest they can no matter what it's real rating should be.

[quotevarious file ordering/browsing modes
I thought we had this here, though it could use more options.
no WIPS
Aren't most "completed" mods works in progress? I know the one I have for NWN2 is.

The Nexus rating system is identical to the one on this site, and they are both worthless. It also has about 5X too many categories which is just as bad as having not enough, if not worse. I agree with your other points, but they are minor in comparison IMO.

That's a fair summary.

Categories - at absolute minimum, we need a separate category for Builder WIP (and the ability to recategorise). This reflects the new emphasis on builder teams sharing work on this social site during development. Builder categories for scripts and other major object classes would help, too.

Advanced search and rating - filter by rating is essential, to sort wheat from chaff. Popularity doesn't help because it will always be low for new stuff and niche contributions. A simple scale 1-5 is probably most meaningful. Median scoring discourages trolling. I appreciate that some people like very complex scoring systems and rankings, but unfortunately they're statistically meaningless.  Other advanced search features will vary by object type - e.g. module search by level, class, hack-and-slash v role play etc

Browsing modes - what's new and what changed recently would be top of my list.

Other essential features - group mailing.

Other useful features - split discussion topics into Bugs and Other.

Just my 2 cents
