I don't like Liara and I made it clear to her in ME1. <_<

Her romance is always shoved down our throats. Throughout the trilogy we keep on getting the “Psst, go pick Liara” vibes. Have you played ME1? You must mind meld with Liara and let her “swim” inside your head. Problem? Some people do have it. Have you played the Genesis comic? Liara is “beautiful as she is intelligent” while Kaiden is the "good kid". Shepard also gets a new… appreciation for the asari. When choosing a romance, Liara nicely takes up more of the screen while the VS sits at the back with his/her arms crossed. Have you played her ME2 DLC and witnessed how your LI gets crushed from the Shadow Broker while Shepard decides to save Liara instead, then having the “them vs the world” moment with her? Do you know what that’s like? What about those banters in the car where Shepard and Liara argue like husband and wife? Why does my Shepard hug her immediately on Illium? In ME3, on Earth she still offers the gift even if you didn't romance her (seriously, why isn’t this available only if you romanced her?). Then there’s the ending, with flashbacks where Shepard thinks about Liara and how she’s smiling… instead of his LI. I almost broke my controller right there. I could add some other things as well but I'm pretty sure I made my point.

If you choose a different romance, you get punished with lesser content... simply because you chose “wrong”. All other romances offer less than Liara. Some romances are so badly mistreated and they may even screw you over (like with Jacob and Thane). Liara is the writer’s pet, so she gets most attention and care from the developers. This is very unfair.

Her friendship is forced on us, especially in her DLC and ME3. No, I DON”T want my Shepard to be friends with her. Period. How would you react and feel in rl if someone would choose who you should be friends with and not? Would you seriously be OK with THAT?

In ME1 you didn’t have to be friends with Liara. You could insult her a lot, threaten her or be professional. But in ME2 those things get completely ignored and forgotten. That's not realism, it's a retcon.

In Lair of the Shadow broker, Bioware keeps on irritating us and we have to watch how Shepard and Liara talk about “good old days”, how “any friend of yours is a friend of mine”, etc. Oddly, in the end, despite Shepard being a forced BFF, you get a sudden option to keep the relationship professional again. I choose that but in ME3 that didn’t matter at all and I’m forced to be best friends with her all over again. In ME3... Dammit Liara, stop breaking into my cabin! All of THIS is more than just annoying. Sometimes it angers me to no end.

I don’t want friends and romances to be chosen for me, especially in RPGs where I’m supposed to ROLEPLAY.  I want to choose them myself. I want full CONTROL over my character and not the other way. I expected better from Bioware.

Then there's the most irritating thing about Liara of all --- it's her massive plot armor. Example -- why didn’t the Shadow broker simply kill her in those two years while spying on her? Why didn’t Nexyris simply poison her coffee? It’s not because Liara is a very clever girl, it’s because of her PLOT ARMOR? Her plot armor lets her survive everything throughout ME1, ME2 and ME3 despite the impossible odds and no matter what choices Shepard makes. Why does she STILL become the Shadow Broker even if Shepard and Cerberus NEVER helped her out? Or just look why people hate Kai Leng and you’ll see more of what I mean.

Liara is less likely to die than ANY other Mass Effect squad member, including Shepard himself! WTF Bioware, really?! Our choices matter little when it comes to her. This is just *******! Unlike other characters, she has her very own comic and DLC.

I don’t want ANYONE to be forced on me at all! I want to have choices with real consequences and equal treatment as well, NOT get screwed over simply because my taste and preferences are different from the writers and developers.

And before someone else mentions it – YES, I DO have a problem with Garrus, Tali and Joker too. I hate how their friendships are forced on me. But out of them all, Liara is the worst by FAR. :pinched:

Oddly I never felt like Liara was forcing herself on me.  It seemed almost everyone else tried at one point.

I agree that Liara is "Forced" on you. In ME1 I always thought she was the most boring squad member. Garrus,Wrex,Ashley and even Tali had pretty good arcs. I never had a problem with Garrus's "forced" friendship, I dunno maybe because in ME1 you were kinda like a mentor to him(with making him become more paragon or renegade), and in ME2 he was one of the only people you could trust. It was really jarring for my Shepard to be cracking jokes with her all of a sudden in LoTSB. It just came out of no where. I really don't understand the appeal for her, it seems like she went through a personality disorder. People seem to love her because she "Perfect".Ashley was the much more interesting romance in ME1 because she developed (to be more trusting of aliens (though they kinda messed this up in ME@2) and not to sacrifice herself).

The sooner you realize that Liara is Shepard's "default" Love Interest the better off you'll be.

People knew that If you didn't like the character you don't have to talk to them? That what I don't understand. I hate trolls, hateful people, jealous and you know.

I love Liara ever since the first game. Liara also the only good Alien, Female Character. I think Humans are boring. I mainly play female Shepard. I like Femshep better. I love everything of Liara she have a interesting background and history, Liara also saved Shepard not Miranda.

Nobodies trolling. People just have different opinions and feel the need to share them. Liaras the hardest character to ignore , which is kind of the point of the thread.

I think the problem is Liara, Joker and the new guys are the only crewmembers that can't die throughout the whole series ( well yeah technically they can but oh well ). Of course the guaranteed squadmate that most people already know will get the most screentime to progress the story with dialogue

I don't particularly like Liara but i get why she's forced upon us that much. It kinda creepy if you don't romance her though since she comes off as a Stalker , very much like Rose in two and a half men was.

I think Liara and Shepard share a bond regardless of whether she is your LI.
In ME1 when talking to her you basically find out she's been nothing but a book worm and rarely around "people" and that she never actually "bonded" with anyone before. The ME1 Liara is awkward socially and is unsure emotionally.
I liked Liara because of how her character grows as the series has gone on. She lost her innocence and went through some ordeals that in the end hardened her.

I mean this girl actually went after your rotting corpse to bring you back, how can you hate her even if you don't really like her?

Just flat-out false. If Liara hadn't been trying to get Shepard, the Broker would have had the body safely out in the first book. Same result if she hadn't pursued further. Of course Liara couldn't have done it alone – and didn't – but the fundamental truth is that without her, Shepard would be collector paste or worse.

It's really quite sad that you have to go to these lengths to try to dislike a character :P

Are you really trying to sell that an organization as resourceful as Cerberus would be unable to find a replacement for Liara? That they would have been entirely unable to retrieve Shepard's body without her? Please. Unless a dev states otherwise, if Liara hadn't been present, Cerberus would have used someone else (preferably not an old squadmate), easy peasy.

In fact, wasnt Cerberus already looking for Shepard.

Yes, and they had failed. They needed Liara to get her. Anyway, y'all clearly way off the deep end on this so have fun with your nemesis…

Not true. They had the ship with Shepard's body in range of their guns. Miranda even asked if they should fire. The only reason why they hadn't shot it down was because TIM wanted to know the reason behind the Collectors' interest in Shepard. Again, Liara did nothing that Cerberus assault team couldn't do.

Also, you keep looking down on people and sprinkling veiled insults on anyone who don't hold Liara close to their heart doesn't help the matter.

Eh, Liara's basically the canon LI for Bioware thus the lavished attention. I do wish you had the option to tell her to shove it in ME3 though, as one of my Sheps is fairly xenophobic, but no, you can only be mildly cold to her. I miss ME1, where you could be a rude dick to everyone.

Even rude dicks can get soft near the end.

I found Liara's boobs creepy in ME3 though, as they seemed to be growing around her sides. That was the main thing that weirded me out with her. :|

Those, my friend, were the most realistic pair of boobs you could find in the game. Perhaps you haven't met enough full-chested females in your time off. But in my opinion those breasts are Liara's most believable content.

Samara? Shiala? Detective Anyala? TALI? And if you mean good as in engaging characters rather than morally good...I personally find many female alien characters more intriguing than Liara despite being given only a sliver of the screentime lavished upon her. I don't hate Liara, but I think her transition from socially isolated, awkward, sheltered, barely-out-of-her-teens-in-Asari-years archaelogist to the most powerful information broker in the galaxy within a 24 month span of time strains credulity. She didn't even have credibility within her own field and now she's a rival to TIM? Please.

Yeah, people can choose not to interact with Liara if they don't like her...except the multitude of times cutscenes force you to interact with her in a particular way not of the player's choosing. I don't care about it most of the time because Liara is so milquetoast that embracing her or making warm small talk seems like something my Shepard wouldn't be against, but why not give people the option? Oh right, because everyone loves Liara.

Liara in particular doesn't bother me, rather the forced friendships in ME3 in general. In ME1 you could be a huge racist ass to anyone and everyone and it was hilarious "because he's a big stupid jellyfish!" ahh good times.

That doesn't work with Liara. You can't just not talk to her. The problem is that too much of Liara's dialogue is unavoidable. Every other squadmate can be pretty much left alone after joining the Normandy and they will do the same for Shepard. With Liara, no matter what the player does she will always come up to the captain's cabin multiple times and try to talk about feelings with Shepard. She is also a mandatory squadmate for more missions than any other crew member.

Her behavior makes it seem like she has a thing for Shepard regardless of how Shepard acts towards her. Liara fans see this as a good thing. For people who don't like her, it's just awkward and kind of sad.

LOL I am a full chested female but I don't have  weird sidewarping boobs. That and Liara basically tripled in cupsize in the span of a few years was odd. But Ashley was the same, made even more obvious when she's in hospital in that shirt. Her boobs were like rocks under there ha.

For ninjamance, the worst game was ME1, without a doubt. At least Liara asks if you want to be with her. Kaidan just took it for granted when I was nice to him( which apparently means 'I WANT IN YOUR PANTS' In ME), so I had to be a rude b!tch for him to go away. The convo was hilarious though..."I'm getting a lot of mixed signals from you Shepard...and some static."

But I found her best bro status in ME3 annoying. My Shep wanted to talk to her Garbear. And have him as her final thought, not the asari.

I kind of like that Liara shows continued interest in Shepard, it's pretty heartbreaking. She is so devoted to Shepard, even if you don't romance her, she's not really ****y about it if you romance someone else so I don't see the issue.

Tali/Garrus both have a thing for Shepard regardless of how you act (not always a 'thing' depending on gender).

There are a few mandatory cut scenes with Liara like as you said, the cabin. But usually you can say 'I don't want to talk about it' and the convo fast forwards. It's just laziness from the BW team that these scenes weren't with your LI.
She is indeed a mandatory squadmate more times, but usually there is a purpose. On Mars I don't really see anyone else there except James and when going to find Javik I think it would be a bit weird to say 'yeah let's ignore my prothean expert on the team and bring team dextro@@'.

If you really hate her that much then just skip the conversations?

It's a problem because, believe it or not, there are people who are not overly fond of Liara and would prefer to treat her as a mere "business associate" instead of Shepard adopting gentle-best-friends-for-ever tone whenever they speak. And they speak a lot curtsy of cut-scenes.

This goes for ALL forced friendships, Garrus, Tali and other included. You, as a player in roleplaying game, should be the one to chose who [insert name here] Shepard's best bud is.

This is riddiculous, you can choose to romance Liara or choose not too. The game does not force anything on Shepard.

Yes Liara is attracted to Shepard, thats part of her character, which is perfectly reasonable.

Unreciprocated feelings are a fact of life that happen everyday

This is true, Shepard shouldn't act as if they are super duper friends without player input. I wasn't really talking about that, more just the way Liara acts around Shepard, in that she is attracted to him/her whether or not Shepard is interested in her, which I find to be completely reasonable.

ME1 did allow a lot of this kind of behaviour, you could be rude to almost anyone or develop a friendship with them, but that kind of vanished in me2 and especially in me3 with a lot of the automatic dialogue.

Just what I was thinking.

And other than Shepard, Liara and Garrus are really the two main characters in this series.  Possibly Tali as well.
