It may be allowable by MSRB standards, but a lot of games choose to avoid it because of the media.  Among the older, non-gamers who run and participate in much of the media, there is still this idea that "games are for kids."  A lot of parents think this way too, and will simply buy any game for their kid off the shelf without a second thought.  One day they walk by and see their kid staring at animated boobs on a screen, and in a raging panic call up the news stations.  Then you'll get the headlines like "Game companies forcing pornography on America's children."

Don't forget the entire Australian Government, too.

But I don't remember those headlines regarding Heavy Rain's shower scene?

But, yes there are plenty of morons out there.  There are also too many parents that don't pay a lick of attention to what their kids are doing.  I was in a Game Stop and some dad walks up with his obviously 10 to 12 year old son and sets GTA4 on the counter.  The clerk and I look at each other, the dad, and we both say at the same time "you're not buying that for him?!?!" Dad asks, "Why?"  So, we explain to him exactly what you can and are expected to do in that game all while his little darling son is staring at us with a seething hatred.  We finish our explanation and Dad looks at his boy and says "You're NOT getting this!" and preceded to put it back.  There's one parent educated.  Now we just need to clue in the other 100,000,000...

In some regards, she's a lot like Triss from the Witcher series. She's very much in love with Shepard, whether or not he/she returns the feeling.

True, I didn't consider other countries.  Games are an international market now.  There's also the huge, new markets of China and India, but those are very conservative countries as far as sexuality goes and game companies have to censor stuff if they want to sell in those countries.

The Australia reference was because the highest rating they have is for 15 year olds. If it isn't suitable content for 15 or under then the game can't be sold there. I honestly can't wait until the "baby boomers" all die. They've screwed up the world enough.

But back to the original "why no underwear?" argument, I would guess they just wanted a way to differentiate the scenes, so that Liara's love scene doesn't look the same as Ashley's, for instance. As to WHY Liara would be the one without underwear then, I would agree with an earlier post that Asari pretty much have no embarrassment or taboo over sexuality like humans; maybe she doesn't wear underwear at all. That, or the devs just wanted to see her naked the most: we'll never know.

Oh wow, so they've taken the "games are for kids" idea to a LEGAL level. That's pretty B.S.

I hope she can move on then, because I hate to think that years after she's been rejected she's still pining over Shepard. That strikes me as a little tragic.

I think they just don't have any sexual taboos.  I mean, why do humans have sexual taboos? Because of M/F differences.  Nobody will look at you weird if you are in a locker room naked, but they would if you were on the street.  When you all have the same parts, it's not really necessary to hide anything.

That's why I really don't get the hate some people have for her. If you pay attention, this is pretty obvious throughout the series; and I can't imagine why you would hate someone who loves you unconditionally.

That's a very good point.

She will probably go look for Shepard ashes and will probably carry them the rest of her life.

Well, for some it ends up coming across as a stalkerish vibe.

Love makes you do crazy things.  If you truly love someone, you don't care of what they think of you or if you can be with them as much as you care about them being alive, safe, and happy.

She doesnt deserve the hate she gets, for sure.  Even if you don't want to romance her, take her unconditional love for you as best friendship.  If you don't even like her enough to be close friends, screw you!

To each their own, but that just seems more a manifestation of their own mistrust issues rising to the surface.

Bioware needed to show off that detailed, scaly, blue skin of hers.

It counteracts the husk sprites on Earth.

Actually, We (Australia) are in the process of introducing R18+ game ratings.

If these people are this hypersensitive in real life, I'm glad I'm not around them.

Exactly what does Liara do that is remotely stalkerish?   She gives you the brush off for all of ME2 just about.   She doesn't even pretend to visit you for six months after LotSB.

She comes to your apartment once or twice when you live in the same damn building (effectively)?  So does Traynor.  Granted, James and Allers send you notes asking, but they are casual acquaintances compared to Liara.

I'm pretty sure that any time Liara is around Shepard she forgets the underwear. In case she would get lucky, wink wink.

Even though if she didn't you wouldn't know to go to Ilos and everyone would be screwed. They were necessary.

But yeah, I guess that didn't help at all.
