I remember BW saying something along the lines of, "We are going to keep the number of squad members down so that you can develop deeper connections with them and they can interact more". Something like that. As it is, that wasn't the case at all. Out of ME1, ME2, and ME3, the third had by far the worst character interaction. By far. In ME1, you really feel for your companions, you either love them or hate them. You get to talk to them about completely seperate matters (not having to do with your mission all the time), you learn about their backstory, and you learn about who they are as a person/alien. ME2 tried to repeat this, but having to juggle 11 or 12 (however many it is) squadmates is difficult work. A few characters are pretty universally liked because they are solid characters (Mordin and Legion probably are the best) but a lot of them (Samara and Jacob) are pretty forgettable. ME3 was supposed to rectify this, but I hardly get to talk to my squadmates, even my LI! And the LI doesn't even realize that he/she is your LI most of the time. I take Ashley as a primary example. In ME1, I really learned a lot about her and grew to like her as a character. In ME3 however, I learn NOTHING new about her. At all. She just talks about her family the WHOLE game. And it's already been established she is close to her family and what she's saying is all already known. WTH?
In the Mars mission of ME3, I saw glimpses of what could've been. In this mission, everyone is involved, everyone is bantering, everyone is alive. I didn't get that feeling most of the time I'm sorry to say.
Did ME3 forgo the deep conversation system to appease newcomers? Is that why Ashley just has repeated dialogue? Will this ever be rectified?
