this is the same thing I say when guys over on bungie.net complain when males use the female spartan.

It's really doesn't matter, this is a game after all. An RPG one too lol. What weirds me out is not guys playing as female chatacters in MP but guys who care enough about the other guys on what they choose to play as in a game lol

Slighter frame and free respec?

Never understood..
a - people being hung up on gender in games,
b - why gender matters when they're both almost indistinguishable from one another, apart from size and a few one liners.

I want to emphasize the slighter frame bit again. Seriously, the human female looks like a human body. The human male looks like a steroid junkie.

I'm pretty sure hitbox is the same size, fwiw. Human female vanguard and soldier are huge too.

I remember reading that the hitbox was 'about the same size as the model' or something.  And yeah, the Vanguard/Soldier is pretty big.  But they seem to take up a lot less of the screen up.

I've been playing video games for about 30 years now and if given a choice, I *always* go for a female character. And yes, I'm male.
Before video games started having "classes" and "races", most difference between playable characters were tied into gender. Males were tougher, females were faster; I found I always prefered the speed boost over the toughness boost. So I always went for a female character. I played that way for so long in so many different games that nowadays it's just instinct that when given the option, I automatically go for a female character.

Thinner profile == small target. Adds variety. In SP, the male model is really ugly and has terrible hair. The voice acting by Jennifer Hale is also better for femshep.

For RP, too, as an Adept, physical strength isn't a priority. Their running stamina is equivalent to men, at least in situations for less than a few tens of km, and they can run pretty much just as fast. Women, however, in scientific tests, have been shown to be on average more pain tolerant than men. So they can take hits and keep functioning for longer.

This is also applies to snipers, as a sniper shouldn't be firing from the hip. Right?

Also, as anyone who watches Anime knows, females have better access to hammerspace. That could be quite useful.

Main reason I do is because of the third person view. The smaller female model covers less of the left side of the screen providing better visibility. Not sure if the hit box is any different but the added "viewing area" helps keep the tunnel vision at bay.

PS: Stare at digital male ass or digital femal ass for hours on end? ( not much of a question in my book lol )

Well, yes... there's that, too

I tried to make a female infiltrator look like a nemesis (and then a phantom), neither turned out very well.

My asari is nice and blue.

Doesn't make much sense to me either, but I don't care as long as they don't suck.

Infiltrators are not the best, best for camo patterns that match (or copying star wars clone troopers Episode III) but that is it, Adepts/Sentinals are better for mimicry.

1) I play human girly engineer because I got the male and the female specced in different ways (male for single target, female for AOE), but besides I "try" to stick with male chars.

2) OP, you clearly didn't play World of Warcraft, where 60% of the "Alliance" faction characters were Night Elf females on every damned server...

I'm beginning to wonder, do you guys end up playing as Human Female characters in MP?

I can understand making a female Shep in SP, Hale does beat Meer by a considerable margin (Particularly in the first game!) but really, in MP?
Granted I am a bit conservative on the subject, playing as an Asari would make me feel like a cross-dresser of sorts, but really?  Playing a HUMAN femaie?

I can understand guys playing as an Asari or Quarian, they do have cool power sets... but it really wierds me out when someone's character shows up as "human female" and the voice talking is male.

Well, this is starting to look like a whiny post instead of an inquisitive one...

Restatement,
Do guys play as human females (and vice versa), if so why and generally with what frequency?

So that I can set up the characters with different stats and the same skills.  For example, my human male infiltrator uses a Viper sniper rifle and cluster grenades and is a commando-type character.  My human female is specced heavily for melee and tactical cloak - and you can see where that leads.

My human male engineer's drone is set to do mostly DPS (shield/weapon evolutions and rocket evolution) and for recharge time on powers - my female engineer is more weapon based with the drone used for distraction and shock-tactic purposes (statted for explosion, short range fire, etc.)

I name and colour all my human characters after Red vs Blue characters, so it's whoever I feel like really :)
I do tend to prefer the female Infiltrator and Vanguard though. Infiltrator because Carolina's awesome, Vanguard because when I tried the male Vanguard it didn't seem to work so well. That might have been because I carried an Eviscerator instead of the usual Katana, though.

I don't really mind if the human is a he or she. I got each one focus in different skills, so I use the one I think fits better (when I use a human...).

Yeah id never play a female char if i have the choice. But here thats nothing haha have you ever played an mmo? I cant understand the tought process behind being a dude that intentionally chooses to play a sexy female char haha(thats especially right for mmos, here not so much)

I really dont have a problem playing with an asari(they are basically not female and there are no male asaris its kinda different with them) or female quarians, but if they release male quarians id prefer playing with them over the females.

And the only reason for that is that im a man and playing in a game with a female char just seems stupid and unnecessary to me, and really i dont need to get my fill of women in a game haha

I thought you guys knew better than to question a female's reach and flexibility...

But staying on topic, I would also prefer a male quarian over the female. For me it's all about aesthetics, especially when it comes to the armor. If I ever choose a human for an infiltrator, it would be the female - the armor as a whole looks more appealing to me, and in addition I consider this particular class to be more fitting for a non-buffed agile looking type of char. When it comes for a human engineer, I'd still prefer the female... it just looks better. Soldier on the other hand has to be male... it just has to. Again, it's all about looks. The helmet of the human soldier just looks ugly on the female. When it comes to the classes with the recon hood, I honestly haven't played with any of them and I don't have an opinion... but if I was required to give one, I guess I'd say it looks better on the male character.

But even if male players play with female character just because they're female - I don't get what's the problem with wanting a character you play with simply to be appealing to you. Image IPB

My human males are different builds than my human females. Different weapon load outs, different stat bonuses, and are played completely differently. I usually pick one based on what the group has as I know my builds. If I need my sneaky sniper I'm playing my female human Infiltrator, if I need the sneak up and melee the dude to death it's the male infiltrator.

I build them different just to play with builds. The option is there, why not use it.

Short answer: Yes, with a ratio of about 50:50. I do it for variety and because some classes just sound cooler/more hilarious when done as men or women. Example: Female Human Vanguard. "HAA-ARGH!"
