Seriously, you people are ridiculous. In their next game, Bioware should implement tons of obnoxious gay guys who will be touching your ass, hitting on you constantly, assume you're already in relationship like Liara does in ME1, who won't know what "NO" means and will get all angry and refuse to speak with you again after you turn them down (Jack). And there should be a mission that will require hitting on a male sexual deviant in order to gain something you need to get better ending. Maybe that would finally teach some of you what "ninjamance" and "showing undesired-gender down your throat" means. 'Cause it seems that the more respectful and easy to avoid gay romances are in Bioware games, the more you whine how "it still bothers me!!!11". This is just becoming pathetic.

Listen up kiddos. GaySheps had to avoid and maneuver through countless sex & relationship offers throughout the entire trilogy, often hidden so deep you could not possibly tell you were picking dialogue options that activated romance (Liara, Ashley in ME1). They were being intimately touched by women against their will (Consort, Gianna, Shiala) and forced to flirt with a woman (Morinth) to complete a major mission. And you have balls to complain about TWO guys in ME3? One who won't say anything unless you literally tell him you like men AND that you want to be with him (Cortez) and the other (Kaidan) who just politely asks if you want to be with him and could not be more respectful when you turn him down, who immediately tells you how he still thinks you're a great friend and whatnot and who you don't have to be rude in anyway to turn down. Not to mention that the romance paths of both of them get automatically disabled if you establish/rekindle a romance with someone else already before speaking with them.

I think the problem with the people who think they are being ninjamanced is that they can't read.

Is it flirting when i say "I am eye candy too"? Because Tali said Shepard is cute
Is it flirting if i tell him i supprot him and help him to forget his ex?

1. Yes it is, and even then right after that you can tell him you haven't met the right woman yet.
2. No, it's just helping him get over his ex. And even if someone headcanons it as flirting he doesn't react to it until you flirt with him 3 times and then tell him you want more while talking to him on Purgatory.

Ok thanks for clearing this for me, many times i like to joke with him and tell that eye candy thing and he reply, you already have lady waiting for you. Totally own moment imo

@Isaac: You know, that touching by others against your will and be forced to flirt with a woman (Morinth, at least if you do the loyality mission) is a problem that all sheps have, not only the gay ones. But I get what you mean and I agree. I think the only real ninjamance was in ME1.

Definitely this!
My MShep was forced to endure ALOT of unwanted female attention in the first two games and in ME1 got 'ninjamanced' more than once (I'm looking at you Ashley. I was only trying to be nice women!)
So whereas most people seem to be taking the s/s relationships pretty well, I have zero sympathy for people who feel like Steve and Kaidan are being 'ramed' down your throat. Did either flirt outrageously with you? Try to hug you? Comment on your looks? Did either of them stalk you (that's right Liara, keeping my tags and armour in your apartment is stalking and more than a little creepy). No? Oh ok then then, so it's not really all that bad then is it?

Yeah, but that one should be a big "warning sign" for those who don't want to get into a gay romance. No straight dude tells a gay one that he's "eye candy". That's teasing ^^Gilthanis wrote...
Actually, the 'eye candy' line doesn't initiate a romance. Here are the dialogue options for Steve at the bar (if you haven't locked in a romance with anyone yet).
I'm eye candy, too.
I'll be watching the ladies.
The obvious one: straight guys simply won't state "waiting for the right man". Whoever is going to pick the other option isn't "ninjamanced". Actually, Cortez' romance has the most obvious starting point of all romances in the series.Waiting for the right man.
Waiting for the right woman.
BAM.(After he asks you to dance with him.)
Okay.
No, thanks.
I want more than friendship. (Obviously locks in the romance.)
You're my friend, too.
Basically, you have to do several steps to get locked in and all of them are obvious like a fire in a dark night.

What I really appreciated about that was that you can RP a gay or bisexual MShep and still not have to romance Steve. All other RPGs I've played have been way more all-or-nothing about that (goddamn it Zevran).CptData wrote...

If it's your first time playing then everything you just said is irrelevant. You don't know that he is or isn't a romance option at all. The scene your talking about goes like this:darthclide wrote...
The problem is that your FIRST time through, every dialogue option EXCEPT these 3 choices that lock you in, are you being "friendly" with Cortez. See, that's the problem. Without a little heart icon next to a dialogue option, you are left guessing "now is this a choice that will lead into a gay romance or not?". I mean, saying something like "Go to the Citadel to take a break, I will meet you there" could easily mean that you want to hook up with him.
When you start calling people idiots because they didn't know their first time through which "magical 3 choices" locked in a gay romance, you are both naive and not a critical thinker when it comes to the dialogue options.
This being said, if you happened to take the risk and walk through the minefield of "friendly" options with Cortez (I didn't. Like the OP said, I just stayed away from him because I didn't want to risk it) then when you get to all 3 of those options, just pick the right one that you want, and voila, you don't have to worry about him "ninjamancing" you.
"You should take some time off on the Citadel. Clear your head."
"I don't know know. Maybe."
(Paragon Option) "Do it For Me."
I can only see that being "romantically inclined" (and if there were heart icons, this would NOT be one) if you are actively thinking about it and are totally paranoid. And truthfully, if your that paranoid, the other option is "Your choice."
And would you honestly be saying the same thing if this dialog was between MShep and Ashley? Or should I say Traynor just before that shower scene? Why doesn't anyone complain how Traynor blatently hits on FemShep she is in the shower?
Um you just proved my point. Because it was my first time through, I automatically assume that everyone, is a potential LI. I don't want to take any chances.
Paranoid or not, the problem is still there. I have no idea which options will put me into a romance with him, let alone if the paragon quicktime makes me hug him in a romantic way.
And one reason to be paranoid, is this continual "in your face" gay rights everywhere you look. I wouldn't put it past Bioware to make scenes with a gay person more intimate than a straight person in ME3, just to help people become more accepting of homosexuals.... As well as I wouldn't put it past Bioware to create a "ninjamance" gay character, just so they can say "oh, woops. looks like you have to deal with a gay partner now. Hope you can learn to accept them because of this"
And yes, I would be saying the exact same thing in regards to Ashley. I shouldn't have to worry that a paragon option will be one of the (who knows how many) magical options that puts me in a romance with someone. These options wouldn't be "magical" if I had a romance icon next to the dialogue.
I don't know about Traynor really... After I found out she was a lesbian, I said "Thank God" to myself, because it was one less person to worry about ninjamancing me (I am MaleShep only)

And again.... Like I said, this is all fine and dandy if you played through the game more than once. My beef, is with the FIRST time through, you have NO idea which options will put you into a romance (let alone the problem that I have to assume EVERYONE is a LI, because BW couldn't put a little heart somewhere to signify this).TJX2045 wrote...

I think a toggle to turn off romance and/or sex scenes in the game would be nice... There are so many different things people complain about in terms of romance. Having this be a potential option would be nice.

Well even if you DID 'accidently' picka dialogue option that leads to a romanc wih Cortez (y'know all THREE freakin obvious ones) in no way is it like Liaras ninjamance. For her, you could get to the near kiss at the Normandy lockdown before having ANY idea that you had 'romanced' her and then you'd have to replay a HUGE chunk of the game to try and undo it. For Cortez its simple - reload a save before that same conversation and pick the other option. It takes like five seconds.
Seriously, my ME experience was not ruined when I button mashed Traynors scene for my 2nd playthrough and accidently got in the shower, I just reloaded.

I met up with Cortez at Purgatory, I was actually looking forward to play around with the dialog options. When something came up about "enjoying the view" of the dancefloor, I totally picked the "I'm hurt, you should be looking this way!" line.
And, know what? Cortez knew that I had a "lady waiting for me." He's a chum. I didn't reload after that.

Steve Cortez must be the most feared character in the whole Mass Effect series. Never before have I seen such a character that people actively go so out of their way to avoid him as much as physically possible.
What I find funny about the whole scenario is that the people who 'avoid' Cortez do so to avoid being roped into the "gay romance" and yet have no reservations about talking to other characters (even new love interests) despite the potential for them SOMEHOW not clicking the glaringly obvious "Yes Ashley, I would like to crash land the Normandy in your hanger bay".
Just an observation I picked up on a lot. Steve is a bro and aside from the forced "Did we mention he had a husband?!" thing that got shoved down our throats at every chance he was a pretty solid character. It's also nice to see a dropship pilot in a video game/film/fiction who doesn't die for once.
Playing a straight Shepard, you still get some poignant moments with the Cortez character getting over a personal loss.
Being "there for him" emotionally doesn't require romance - and it definitely can impact his survival chances on the last mission.

Exactly. Because letting your shuttle pilot cry without trying to find out why or letting him burn out working all the time to avoid dealing with his bereavement, those are the actions of a commanding officer everyone will respect, right?
Right?

.. Well. I find it weird that my Gay!Shep has that line at all.
Sorry for the bump, but this is the first time I've played a Gay!Shep, and I just got to this part, and I sat there for a good five minutes staring at the dialogue options. My brain could not wrap itself around the inanity.
