Since this thread is getting more recent attention, I should add that the whole 'random triple damage' phenomenon is something I've personally found to be incorrect.

Well, not incorrect per say, but misunderstood.

It's just a critical hit. Unique to this weapon, you can critically hit units like Banshees, Brutes, Primes and Ravagers (In their heads, barring the latter, which is just in the bullseye.)
You hit those spots, you get the 300% critical damage.

While I'm not going to post a video (don't have the software, time or real know-how to do it on the fly), I've played hundreds of games where if I struck the target in the right point, the damage was done.

If you want to look for yourselves, I suggest using it and watch where your shots land. They're quite clearly visible

But they are talking about a random critical. And Ravagers don't have any sort of weak point that I can identify (without piercing which may hit twice).

The head of the Ravager is slightly below the large circle thing. It's most easily visible when viewed from the side with the sacs broken.

I don't know whether the actual head or the large circle on top of it is the weak point.

You forgot to mention that the momentum of the shot does not carry over into the target. If you hit a geth trooper from the front, expect him to do a hop straight upwards and then flop down dead.
