...and many of its employees are laid off or find work in other (non-EA owned) game companies?

It seems we are witnessing the end of Bioware (Dragon Age 2, SW:TOR and ME3, examples of quality standards changing for the worse?)

EA is laying off UP TO 1000 employees because numbers aren't where they should be for BF3 and SW:TOR.

I get the feeling that EA will break apart Bioware and absorb the talent and lay off the rest.

Two years.  That's my guess.

EDIT:
Changed my initial assertion of "EA is laying off 1000 employees..." to add "UP TO" to stay true to the numbers forecasted in the reports.

The negativity is really not going to help.

But if that rumour is true (is it a rumour?) then that is depressing.

I do not envy game developers at all.

Not ME3 related so this will be locked.  It sounds like layoffs may be coming with the PR speak from EA, but we don't know how many.  If  BioWare is closed down it would be after DA3's release.

The Bioware name is too valuable a commodity to evaporate. Also, the buyout deal was favorable for Bioware as far as I'm aware. They still have lots of control over their own projects. Notice the founders are still the heads of Bioware? That doesn't sound like standard hostile takeover procedure to me.

Gut feeling says we won't see DA3...

Logical assesment is if DA3 bellies up and the Bioware name is not worth anything as a brand anymore.

ME3 has tainted the brand possibly beyond recovery.

I would think the lay-off may come of their staff that develops lots of their sports games.

Considering that the next announced Bioware/EA game is Command and Conquerors Generals 2.

Yeah, I'd give them three years unles DA3 pulls a miracle.

Any chance we could get a source for your claim that they're laying off 1000 employees because of BF3 and TOR?

I think that is the "new" Bioware company that EA made:

Bioware should have made SW: TOR an Action-RPG reboot of the Star Wars IP instead of a MMO.

No , they should have made a MMO with some actual content not a story with nothing at the end... oh wait was that Mass Effect 3.Posted Image

Between 500 and 1000 is apparently 1000.

Brilliant interpretation.

To me Star Wars needs to be an Action-RPG game. Also if there is lots of story, then it should have been a single player game.

You make the claim, you provide the evidence. That's called doing your job in the first place.

ETA: It's a rumor, claimed by an ex-employee and denied by EA.

"Electronic Arts' fiscal year ended on March 31. It has not yet announced
a date for the reporting of its full-year fiscal results."

How about we wait until that report until we start screaming about EA dying, and BioWare being broken up, and what have you, shall we?

Actually NUMEROUS articles all over the internet made the claim.  I just asked what everyone's opinion was on how long something like this could happen.  Next you'll want me to read it to you.

ETTA:
It seems you are experiencing a little denial about EA.  I invite you to buy EA stock.

Well when EA bought them the Bioware name was like gold. Now it's closer to something brown and smelly.

Well, there is a chance they'll pull "snap inspection" card - paint grass, cover holes with nekkid bewbs patriotic paintings and tell soldiers to yell marching songs loudest way possible, maybe even add some new spyte-shynyPosted Image thingies on parade uniform. You know, usual stuff.
