"EA is growing and looking to hire hundreds of people for our digital, console, mobile and social games," the representative said. "Like all game companies, we make occasional adjustments to resize teams as projects are completed and new priorities are established. Overall, we expect that headcount will be up at the end of this year."

That pretty much leaves this discussion null and void. Gaming compaines are not the only businesses that do this. Auto manufacturers are notorious for doing the same thing.

Any chance we could get a source for your claim that they're laying off 1000 employees because of BF3 and TOR?

Here are three links of about 50.  Next time do a simple Google search lest I have to do your job for you.

You make the claim, you provide the evidence. That's called doing your job in the first place.

Actually NUMEROUS articles all over the internet made the claim.  I just asked what everyone's opinion was on how long something like this could happen.  Next you'll want me to read it to you.

It is a matter of courtesy to cite an article when trying to make a discussion on an article. So yes, it is your job to cite it; it is not the reader's job to look up what you're talking about when you want to discuss an article.

When bioware was sold she had a fanbase that would buy anygame as long as it had "bioware" stamped on it. When the devs and admins here spoke, we had no reason to question them.

Now?

Now the word of anyone of Bioware isnt worth the time it took to type it. And considering the current modus operandi at bioware, I really dont see that changeing anytime soon.

-Only one problem with that statement. We have zero reason to put any faith in any announcement from EA/Bioware at this time. They could tell me water was wet, and Id still open the faucet and check before I believed them.

So they're basically firing people so they can hire people?

This is the first you've heard about this?  I've been reading these articles for at least a week now.  I just thought it was common knowledge and most people would have known what I was referring to.  Pardon my ignorance and "lack of courtesy."

EDIT: I should clarify that I don't mean I have been reading the specific articles listed above.  I mean I have been reading reports about the EA layoffs since last week.

Except it's one statement, from one ex-employee who's saying they're firing UP TO 1000 employees (not 1000, as the title suggests). EA's fiscal year ended March 31st. They've yet to announce a yearly earnings report. Can we please wait until they've at least discussed that before jumping on the "omg they're firing everybody" bandwagon?

Yes, this was. Many don't bother following the news and the fact that you can type anything into Google and get fifty articles about everything other than what you're looking for, which is why I say it is a courtesy.

Agreed.  They haven't done it yet so it's pure speculation.  Plus Sony has actually stated they are cutting 10,000 jobs and no one is going all doom and gloom on them.

No, I think EA has actually said they are going to be laying off people and it was supposed to occur as early as April 9.  I think the "Ex-EA employee" was making more statements about why EA was losing money was because of the way it markets.  The reports of less than stellar earnings came out from the market watch people for EA and their own reports -- that's what I understand.  I do not have a link from EA directly that says this, because they would never say that, but you get my point.  I think you are referring to two initially separate things: 1) The ex-employee 2) EA earnings and layoffs imminent per the "reports."

EDIT: Anyway, I think the validity of whether EA is going to layoff one person or 1000 is somewhat side-tracking and the point of my question was, "Is EA sinking the once glorious Bioware and how long could something like that take before we no longer have a Bioware?"  That was basically my questions.  As the above poster said, it's speculation until it happens and we probably know as little as the poor people who work for EA who may be out of work soon.

Thank you.

Now, given that Sony HAS announced that, if you want to go doom and gloom on them, feel free. I certainly won't object.

I'm not jumping on anything lol, I was just asking for clarification since this subject is far from my forte.

The Bioware name is too valuable a commodity to evaporate. Also, the buyout deal was favorable for Bioware as far as I'm aware. They still have lots of control over their own projects. Notice the founders are still the heads of Bioware? That doesn't sound like standard hostile takeover procedure to me.

The Bioware name is being destroyed :

Well when EA bought them the Bioware name was like gold. Now it's closer to something brown and smelly.

I'm sure if it was worth that then nobody would be fussed over the endings. If BioWare's name was ruined when DA2 came out, then stomped on with SWTOR...why would we care about ME3?

Because it was a bloody good game. If it was a piece of crap all the way through I don't think anybody would have cared much about the ending.

Oh I got you, it wasn't really aimed at you or anyone in specific, I'm just trying to advocate a semblence of "hey, guys, let's just calm down a sec, can we?"

I just think that we should all wait until EA releases their yearly financials, then see what's what.

Rooting for it and not being suprised if it happens is not really the same thing.

So that explains why we had several threads exalting decline in EA's stock?  Also, nowhere in that article did it mention Bioware carrying the brunt of those layoffs.

I dont see EA going under anytime soon. They have their cash cows. However they are not in the charity business. If Bioware doesnt deliver, then there really is no reason to have them around.

I most certainly am not jumping on anything nor do I give a flying f*** what goes on at EA. I was just trying to point out that this practice is not new and should not surprise anyone.

This...

I may have been vocal about the controversies surrounding ME3 but that doesn't mean I want them to go under.

However I do maintain that those responsible should be held accountable for what happened and why it happened, and hopefully it will be a wake up call to think twice before rushing a product (my main gripe) in future.

Mass Effect 3 could have been so much more ambitous if you spent more time on it. Image IPB

Example:
Many others including myself have been waiting since 2003 for a sequel to Beyond Good & Evil.
We are still waiting......with hope on the horizon.

Had you waited another year to polish Mass Effect 3 it wouldn't have been a problem.

If there is one thing I hate in the gaming industry today is in the quality of some games.
Some games shouldn't have been released in 'their state of readiness'.

Image IPB

But anyway I deviated somewhat. but honestly....

I'd like to see the ME universe continue, and as selfish as it sounds I don't want Bioware to go under.
