But there are ways it could work. Two separate battlefields, each with say, 8 objectives to control. The number of objectives you control determines how many mobs spawn on your opponents battlefield. Perhaps with optional side objectives to boost your mobs - complete this hack objective and your opponents will be facing foes with double shields, ect.
And there's always the potential for a Left 4 Dead style asymmetry, where the monster players are fragile, but respawn. There's even ground in the lore for that kind of thing - "Assuming Direct Control"
Actually, a 1v4 "Harbinger Mode" could be pretty interesting.

Right, but changes will be made to the game because of PvP that will affect my PvE. Once again, I will stick with Gears or CoD for my PvP, you know, games that were designed with it in mind.

Why not?
- Lag, if you play now you barely notice it unless you have certain weapons equiped but if you play it in pvp it will be frustrating as hell.
- Balance issues, face it balance will always be an issue when you got a ****load of characters.
- Character choices, same like the balance issues, people will go get stuck on using only using 1 or 2 characters because they are OP. It will lose the variaty, fast.
- pvp is just not fun in a game like this. I'd play Halo if I wanna do pvp.
The only people here who want PVP are the ones who play Vanguard and go all Rambo in Silver/Gold matches.

the idea is not to change the PvE ... just to add another mode for people who are bored with the current one ... as unbalanced as it would be it'd still be fun to try

Maybe it's not that we are bad but unlike you we see how this will negatively affect the game and how OP some classes will be. You have classes like the infiltraitor that are designed to 1 shot people. You take that away from the class and you've pretty much gutted the whole reason for the class to exist.

I keep telling you it's unbalanced because you have yet to answer my question from the first page.
How would you make all 25 possible race/class combinations balanced without sacrificing what those classes are about at their core, or what Mass Effect is at its' core?

That same arguement has been made in every game that has had PvP added to it and it never stays true because it's easier to nerf abilities then to add in what if statements and code for different scenarios. The fun would last for maybe a week and then people would be crying about how OP XYZ class is and that it needs to be nerfed. I mean FFS, people already cry about classes needing to be nerfed and this is a freaking co-op MP.

- Maps are too small, snipers will suffer massively
- Powers and weapons need a major balancing. Imagine a krogan sentinel with Claymore X versus you.
If you want a PvP game, play Tribes: Ascend or Combat Arms (I don't recommend it) or Team Fortress 2.
