And don't get me started on lag and it''s effects on players/weapons.
How can anyone not realise this from the start is behond me.

That's because people like the OP played stun-locking mace rogues in WoW and then stood around in cities bragging about how they are the real players. I largely don't want pvp here because I want the real players to move along.Shadowsword8 wrote...
PvP in this game would be downright stupid. Stasis would be OP. Submission net would be OP. Overload, too. Levitation, Throw, and so on.

If all players were using the regular classes, powers and guns would be heavily unbalanced. "Oh, you could just reduce damage to players" you say? SMGs and ARs don't do much damage as it is, so making them do even less would make them completely worthless. Powers like Incinerate that can arc and can lock onto targets around corners and behind cover would be broken, not to mention stasis.
The idea of a L4D style of PvP would be interesting but that would cost money to develop. I'm pretty sure that unless Bioware is just sitting on it, the game isn't set up for a person to control the enemy units. If you think that would be an easy fix and you aren't a game programmer, I have to say is ignorance is bliss. A lot of things are harder than they seem when you get down to the code.
Comparing ME to CoD or Battlefield isn't really a fair argument. For one, they are not the same type of game. It's like comparing Mario Kart and Gran Turismo, sure they may both be about racing, but that's where the similarities end. Also, I'm confident that the development of ME3 was more centered on the single player campaign rather than the multiplayer. Games like CoD and Battlefield are the other way around; the multiplayer is where the main focus of development goes.

yes i actually do i did a little bit of simple game programming and i am in college getting my degree in electrical engineering which has quite a bit of programming in it so i know how much work goes into it. I am not saying i support ME3 PvP cause i dont but i am saying that there isnt an issue with how to balance the classes IF and I STRESS -> IF <-Quxorda wrote...

The class balances would be so ridiculously off.... They'd pretty much just have to make a new game. This idea is dead on its feet.
You have no idea how much work and how many man hours would go into balancing these classes and abilties for pvp. It is far from a non-issue and would indeed be the equivlent of making an entirely new game. The only real option would be to water abilities down so heavily that it wouldn't be ME anymore - it would just be a CoD clone in space.
ME3 pvp is an extrordinarily bad idea, ET ont he Atari would be a more playable and pleasing experience.

I hang back behind cover, stasis you, and then unload a carnifex into your noggin.
You're just about to kill a guy when "surprise" I uncloak behind you and 1 shot you with my claymore.
You're being cautious. You are the man popping heads left and right. I charge you from nearly across the map, nova and shotty your face.....game over man, game over!
Now put this altogether at once in a map and what you have is FUBAR.
That wouldn't be fun and it wouldn't be skillfull. People would be literally gibbed left and right. Infiltrator classes and vanguards would have huge advantages. Stasis would be broken.
The dev's would have to radically re-balance all the classes for pvp and then re-balance ALL the weapons for pvp, and even then it would still likely be FUBAR because it wasn't designed to be pvp in the first place.
Just deal with it. The game is better off without pvp mode unless it is completely seperate from singleplayer and cooperative multiplayer. At this stage it's not likely to happen and even if it did the crying and groaning would be epic from all the suck butt players.

PvP wouldn't work with powers working they way they do. There would even need to be new maps since the current ones wouldn't work well in pvp and would be prone to a lot of spawn killing.
Maybe a L4D style pvp and by that I mean about a total of 50 AI on the battlefield and 8 players.
25 AI + 4 players on Team A
25 AI + 4 players on Team B
The teams could be either Geth, Reapers, Cerberus, Alliance
Geth players could choose:
Hunters - Low DR, Fast, Tactical Cloak, Hunter Mode, Geth Plasma Shotgun
Pyros - Medium DR, Slow, Fortification (slows player even more), Flamethrower
Rocket Troopers - Medium DR, Medium Speed, Geth Shield Boost, Rocket launcher (on par with carnage)
and the other teams would play out similarly

The only way for PVP to even have a chance of working would be if PVP was Cerb vs Reaper, Reaper vs Geth, etc. But would even that be fun in the long run? It'd be a poor man's L4D versus mode.

Multiplayer in this game is geared towards co-op, not PvP.

First of all, its damn sure not the minority that dislike the idea of PvP mode. And second of all, f*ck you. Not wanting PvP doesn't make you a bad player, I'ma bet money you play CoD or Battlefield, you fit the stereotype.
Mass Effect has always been about working together, especialy in the Multiplayer. Lets keep it that way

Right now, they can get away with just giving us toys. With PVP they'd have to actually balance stuff. It would make the game no fun at all. It would become just another copy of the other 1000 pvp games out there where in the end every character has to be the same.
Though I do like TF2.

There are many more games without pvp but nobody remembers them because after playing the story mode people do not care more. Dead Space2 anyone remember that game? Fear3 you remember him? Tomb Raider was that? Etc. .. Everyone keeps talking about the same games that interestingly all are pvp League of Legends, CoD, BF, GoW, Star Craft, WoW, etc. Mass Effect will be a thing of the past few months. Those who do not like pvp are the minority.

Groups of humans always have irrational fear of change that stems from a primitive emotional part of our brain. When this fear manifest itself in the form of a comment on message boards the author is obviously going to dress it up as if its an informed opinion when in reality its just emotional gibberish. Trying to convince this mass of stupidity on BSN that pvp wouldn't ruin the game is a waste of breathe, appeal to bioware instead.

I was going to correct him as well, his sentence would make a lot more sense if he replaced "bad" with "stupid". Thinking a business shouldn't add an enourmously popular service to one of their newest and most original products, or atleast test it out is the definition of stupid.iNyxs wrote...

Well the syntax is very simple sure:
if mode = pvp:
1 set of rules
else
the other set of rules
But do you realize how extensive those 2 sets of rules are to develop? Would take months to develop one set. It's not just about putting code together willy-nilly. You have to plan and design the logic and THEN develop and test. This is a MASSIVE amount of work.
