So, first things first, here's some proof that it was all done on gold

Image IPB

Now, here's me taking a rocket to the face without blade armor.

Err, It looks like I have shields, but that's just because of the way I timed it.  I can assure ya I run out of shields afterwards.

Image IPB

Here's me taking a shot to the face with blade armor on.

Image IPB

I have a tiny bit of shields left as you can see.

Now for the magic.

Here's me taking a rocket while using Heavy Melee without blade armor

Image IPB
Notice how I have more shields left over then I did with just Blade armor, even though I don't have it on right now

And here's me taking a rocket to the face with blade armor

Image IPB

Notice how I have a lot more shields then with either.

Now, since my blade armor is currently at 25% damage reduction, all this suggests is that since I take less damage with my Punch and no Blade armor on, that the DR I get is greater than 25%.  I'm thinking it's either 30, or 35.  As you can see, with blade armor, the amount of shields I get left over is pretty goddamn massive.  Because of the way DR works, I personally believe maximizing DR for melee builds is probably a good idea, since it will increase your survivability by a large amount.

Have fun rockin' gold guys.

Edit:

Soo.. Good news everybody. Biotic bubble + Blade armor + Heavy Melee = Invincibility check this **** out.

Right before rocket

Image IPB

After rocket
Image IPB

**** YEAH!

Get yourself a Asari friend, and punch the **** out of an Atlas!

More fun stuff.  Here's a video.

The first video.

As you can
see, this tactic is actually very good for keeping enemies the hell
away, and watching the flank.  And, if I'm worried I might be taking too
much damage, I can just falcon punch until my shields recharge.

Fun stuff.

Oh, and finally.  Here's me punching an Prime to death with a little assitance from my Asari Friend.
The final Vid.

Update:
So, I found some interesting info from this topic

http://social.biowar.../index/11481777

It turns out you need 133% DR to take no damage from an attack..  This
actually suggests that with my 25% damage reduction from my armor, and
the 40% from the Biotic shield, that I actually get around 75% damage
reduction from Heavy melee..  I actually retested the damage from a rocket to the face, and it seems like that time I had shields remaining with blade armor and no heavy melee was a fluke, and it normally takes off all your armor.

Pretty crazy stuff.

I suspected as much. The heavy melee animation is too long to not have some kind of damage reduction to compensate. Figues why I lived those times when I already took quite some damage andI timed my heavy melee too early, thus missing my target. Thanks for confirming this :)

It's funny, because of the way DR works, meleeing without Blade armor becomes a much worse idea.

Now what I need to do is find an Asari Justicar, and see if I get invicble during a melee.

Yeah, I bet you'll get some pretty nice damage reduction with a Justicar on your side. I vote for Batarian adept with reave and blade armor for the next dlc :P or perhaps switch the BS's shockwave with reave?

Well..  If I literally take no damage with my setup, then I know for a fact that it's more than or equal to 35% If I do take damage, it will most likely be 30%.

It's useful stuff to know.

Even more reasons to love the Batarian.

Without a doubt my favorite character right now.

now they just need to give asari some DR during their heavy melee, and we'll all be good!

I'm pretty sure there's something like minimum damage, my Krogan Sentinel with full TA (40%) during Rage (+30%) inside a 30% DR bubble did take (a tiny amount of) damage from Hunter shots and rockets.

This explains the "why am I still alive?" moments after a botched heavy melee. Glorious!

My favorite class is apparently even more badass than I had originally thought.

So this means when stuck outside of cover I should be trying to Falcon Punch any missiles headed my way?

Let me confirm something.  You can actually shootdown Rockets. And I have on two seperate occaisions, falcon punched Rockets.  Never on purpose, but you can in fact do it.

And even if you fail according to this you should be able to largely shrug it off?

BEST MELEE EVER!

Being able to shoot down missles is pretty common knowledge. But being able to target and hit one with a melee attack? I find that hard to beleive. Also, why would you try that? :P

I didn't try to.  Twas an accident.  Tried to Heavy melee Rocket trooper jerks, missed, happened to of hit right when the trooper shot the rocket, and took no damage from the explosion at all, and the rocket didn't explode like normal.    This happened to me twice in total.  And no, I didn't take a screenshot because there was no way to really anticpate it.

I suspected there was some damage reduction going on during the heavy melee.
Now we need to see a batarian with full DR blade armor inside a full defensive justicar bubble taking a rocket while heavy meleeing.

Seeing as how some people suspect there's a minimum damage, it may not matter all that much.  But I plan on tryin' it.

Love this. If there's ever a reason to tilt the scale in the favor of Blade Armor on a Soldier over Inferno Grenades, this is it. Good stuff.

Safe to say this your favorite class, Zenning?

Yep, I had no idea. Only ever used the heavy melee for fun in non dangerous situations so this changes things a bit.

An other interesting tidbit. With the 25% damage reduction from blades, I can heavy melee a shooting turret and destroy it before it takes off all my shields.

I'll see if I can get a screenie next time I play.

I just had an epiphany. Potentially.

Gold Standard Melee Sentinel Build: Take 5?

6 Blade Armor: Melee, Melee Returned, Damage Resistance
6 Dat Net: Incap?, Cooldown, Electric Field
6 Shockwave: Radius, Distance, Cooldown
0 Batarian Enforcer! (Hear me out)
6 Fitness: Melee, Melee, Melee

If you take a Hornet with a good ammo power, you really don't need to improve your weapon (as long as you hit your target, which admittedly can be a challenge without a Turian but def can work on another race as long as you don't ever zoom in with it). Plus you'll be at 200% and can take the cooldown reduction perks to make sure your powers stay relatively spammable even with Blade Armor on and maxed for DR. Spam them disruptive powers, melee at every opportunity, hornet for clean-up.

As soon as I get a reset card I'll try this out and return with some feedback lol. I'm so determined to make a Melee Sentinel work like a Melee Soldier does lol.
