/Shepard wipes blood from his mouth and looks down at his wounds

/Shepard glances over to the corpse of the Illusive man

Shepard: No... we did not become them. But I see now it was meant to be bittersweet.

/Shepard's vision starts to give out

/Liara tries to hold back tears

Liara: You saw the way that others were too blind to see, and you had the courage to take it John. You are our leader and our friend.... and more than that to me. After all of this, how can you question the man you have become?

/Shepard sheds a tear

Shepard: I have so much left to live for Liara. I don't want to die.... not again... I don't want to lose you or them. I finally have a family... That's all the utopia I ever needed. And I realize that now.... at my final hour.... like some cruel joke.

Liara: Dammit John. You're breaking my heart...

Shepard: There is an end to the war...to the pain...but not for me...I will pay the cost for the new era...a chance for you... a chance for the crew... a chance for your survival... Liara, I love you so much, and that's why I have to let you go. You asari live long, beautiful lives.....

Liara: SHEPARD NO!

/Hackett's voice booms through the panel across the room
/Shepard starts to lose consciousness while stumbling for the panel
/Shepard goes out cold
/Panel lifts Shepard up
