Considering I'm of the opinion that the best party is 1w/1r/2m, then no, I don't find it essential. In fact, in that party setup, I think its a waste of mana and a talent point.

I go warrior/warrior/rogue/mage, so for me it's epic.

If the Rogue uses Momentum i would guess not.

Because both talents cancel each other out.

Since 2H warriors are of questionable worth and DW rogues/warriors use Momentum, Haste barely has a use.

Dont forget you will have to "waste" 3 spell/talent points for 3 useless spells before you can get Haste.

I used the spell in my first and second playthrough, but didnt really see any effect like Haste in BG2.

+ you loose attackrating when using it :/

If you only use tank+rogue then no haste is not essential at all but it could save your rogue 3 talent points and any dps you lose from using haste over momentum is more than made up for by increasing your tanks dps. In essence using momentum over haste actually gimps your party in every situation but one where a rogue is the only melee alive. I am assuming that haste has no impact on staff dps if it does then you are further gimping your party by not using it and being "selfish" and only using momentum on your rogue or dual wield warrior. Of course I play the console version and have no way to respec all my melee to dual wield. If i had that option then I probably would still use haste because it would free up stamina for stuns and aoe's for my melee.

running a 2 mage group with haste stacked on haste is rather fun(it also stacks for run speed), your rogues attack so, so fast. I was getting at least 4 backstabs in under a second.

Honestly i would like to view the potential of a rogue with haste stacked 3 times. Now that would be something to see. Not to mention triple hasted run speed. Haste isn't very practical, but its fun to watch.

The best party is 1R/3M by far.

And one of those mages is an AW tank.

its not the most fun though, and you can finish the game with any party, so who really cares what the best is?

Essential? No. A huge difference maker? Yes.

My "primary" group is Alistair, Leliana with a bow, Wynne, and my 2h warrior. Haste is a huge increase to DPS for that group.

But for my group with a tank, momentum-using rogue, and two mages... not as much.

Any party with an AW can't hope to claim to a best party.

Back on topic, haste has little use as it has crap spells in its line and momentum is better anyway.

I like Haste because it makes me run faster. Very few things make me move faster. With how big the world is, that is more import than doing damage. If I want to do more damage I'll just turn down the difficulty slider.

if your party is 1 mage and 3 melee i guess it would be pretty good.

my current party is 1 melee, 2 mages, and an archer. for that party it does approximately nothing.
