Like the Dukes of Hazzard slidy thing. I want to able to use that whenever I need to but I just can't get it down pat. A firend of mine tried to explain it to me but I just can't do it right. Can anyone help me in my quest.

EDIT: Hey look I didn't put a question mark. Oh well.

I can get it right about 60% of the time. It's quite difficult to master.

Double tap the sprint key when you move up to an object.

He's talking about the quick vault over a low wall or other similar object. There is a normal vault, and a faster one. All I know is both are done with the A button and because of that, it would be really hard to command which one you get 100% of the time.

You're in cover. An arrow will point either left or right. You tap the action button/key. Shepard will move to the next piece of cover often without being shot at. Very useful.

I think that's what the OP means.

My biggest trouble with the upgraded agility is that when I want to run away from an enemy, if I'm too close to a piece of cover, Shepard will duck infront of it, allowing the enemy to kill me effortlessly.

That has nothing to do with the cover mechanics - everything to do with the stupid "have one button for everything" decision.

One button for sprinting and one to interact would go a long way to fix this mess.

Anyone worked out how far from the cover you want slide over you need to be? I've managed it before, but never consistently and knowing what I'm doing. Issue I find is that trying to double click or double button push if not done perfectly ends with you exiting cover on the second press by mistake

I think the distance that gets you into cover, if you double click there you will slide over it. Remember to keep moving forwards though, because if you are moving forward, even if you miss the slide, you will still "hop" over the cover, to just exit cover and stand up means you are missing something.

I can do it I think... I dunno... almost always... I slide over tables to grab ammo all over London... and never notice that it needs any special timing... just double tap keyboard while sprinting and keep pressing "W" always does the trick.

It's not so hard. You should be able to get under the plastic thing of the game package right at the edges. The cover is easily retracted and reinserted again. Voilá: MaleShep -> FemShep and vice versa.
(Sorry, couldn't resist it.)

I really didn't se that pun coming. I guess there's a reason you call yourself Dr Random.
I prefer the FemShep cover by the way.

Now back to the thread.

It took me ages to get use to the new changes but once I realised that most of the movements from cover to cover can be done by observing the arrows and pressing action button/key it was much easier.

Now go to the Mars mission again (you know the part where the turret is gunning you and your team down) and practice moving from cover to cover.

I still find the worst cover move to be exiting cover to go straight forward to the next bit running...too often I find I miss the cover and stand there like a bullet magnet. It's like Shep has become me at paintball. COuld be worse though...could be moving to cover in the iOS Infiltrator app..that really is irritating

I'm pretty sure the OP was asking about the fast cover vault. There's no arrow or timing indication for it. I don't even think there is a tip for it in the prologue. What your talking about is the cover-to-cover roll, which does have a tutorial on Mars.

I have trouble with it too. Half the time I get shot at by the turret on Mars when you're actually in the room with the thing, moving down the hall I have no problem with.

It's based on the time delay between button taps and whether you're sprinting when you reach the cover. If you're sprinting and double-tap the action button at the proper time, you'll slide right over. Pretty simple.

When you approach the cover/vaultable piece of cover/wall. Double tap the spacebar (or take cover key if you have mapped it to something different). Your character will vault over in no time.

It's quite easy to do. I can approach cover while sprinting and vault over it then sprint again.

What I haven't mastered is trying to activate consoles without taking cover an annoying percentage of the time.

If what you're saying is true, can someone just show me a video of this "Cover slidy thing?" because I don't know what the opening post is on about.

Yes, it's quite easy actually all you need to do is sprint and quiclky tap the climb button.

THIS. This is a much bigger problem than anything the OP is talking about. Cover mechanics in this game are normally really easy to manage. One button, depending on the context, does everything. You just need to have lots of practice and it'll come second nature to you.

In cover, you see arrows depending on what direction you push your controls. Works with doorways, edges of cover, and cover you can jump over/climb. Easy. Or when you come sprinting to a half level cover (waist high), just quickly and repeatedly tap the sprint button once you reach the middle of the cover to slide over it. Don't try to slide over it on the sides of whatever you're trying to clear, you'll most likely end up taking cover instead of going over it. Pretty annoying.

But dear god. Try reviving a teammate who died next to cover or activate a console. In the middle of a heated battle. Only to find yourself taking cover repeatedly against a wall or desk.

DRIVES ME CRAZY. Don't know how they could really fix this though without breaking the cover system in some other way.

Me: Revie the squadmate! Come on revive! {Shepard does a combat roll instead as I frantically tap the action button} Damn it Shepard. Revive him! Ugh! Come on! Now he's dead. Thanks Shepard.
