Why are straight female Shepherd romance options so limited?

The fact that they nuked two established options (because they forgot one was an LI and the other was too unpopular to put effort in) but didn't bother to add on more to make up for it...well if felt like a giant slap in the face
Yep, I hear ya.

Edit/Serious Comment: Personally, I think it's because in Bioware's mind; Male Shepard is the canon character. So Jane takes a backseat regarding development. It's evident in how Jane's appearance is constantly changed in each game while John's stays relatively the same but with better graphics, and how Jane only appeared on the front cover via reversable side in the last game, when they finally settled on a look that made her look great. Sadly, her straight romances took a backseat too. Then, there's the whole thing about Liara being the Bioware-canon romance.
I could be entirely wrong, I welcome a disagreement.

Don't get me wrong. I totally dig Garrus but I would just like another option.

Same, I think I could squeeze out mabe three romances with John that I could happily play out, but with Jane, hm, sadly I'll resort to Garrus every time.

As much as I like Garrus (And Thane and Kaidan), I have other Shepards. And while batting for the other team, Samara's unrequited love will only get me so far. I would like to see more choices. FemShep suffers from having two of her romances hacksawed and nipped in the bud respectively. Hilarious result? More girls than boys, since Allers and Laira are bi, so there's only one romance to write. Add to that Kelly, Samara, and Traynor, and it goes a bit critical.
Especially with the aforementioned maybe Kaidan is dead or you had a LI in 2 who wasn't, you know, a certain awesome blue-painted turian. And if Kaidan's not your cup of tea, you're SOL. Vega and Joker are busy doing whatever it is they do, and Javik doesn't have time for your primitive fuzzy feelings or whatever.

I admit that the idea of dating the ultimate space troll has its appeal.
Why not? As the game progresses it becomes Javik has a lot in common with Shepard. It would be interesting to see if you could break through that crusty shell of his. Perfect Renegade option in the romance department.

apparently we were all supposed to be able to see into the future to know that if Kaidan did not survive the first game and that if you didn't romance garrus in the second that your straight femshep would be forever alone.
"You should have seen it comin ladies, AMIRITE??? You should have known they would get nuked to s**t even though they were as legit as every other ME2 romance at the time. In fact, I like that they had love interests dump you and die without a choice to save them, makes it more real yanno? Now if you excuse me I'm on my third manshep import enjoying ALL MY OPTIONS!"

As I always say, they catered to the male fan base first because they think the female fan base is that unimportant. They went back a whole decade in thinking when it comes to the video game audience.
