Why are straight female Shepherd romance options so limited?

Forgive me if this has been raised before but why are there only 2 options for a straight female Shepherd? If I count correctly there are 7 potential romances for a straight guy and 4 for a gay woman and even in ME2 we had 3. As a straight woman it's disappointing that I only have a choice between Kaiden and Garrus especially as Kaiden seems to have turned into a bit of a dweeb since ME1. Good thing Garrus is such a cool dude or I'd go nuts. Why couldn't James have been an option. There he is working out all the time the big tease (surely it wouldn't have taken that much more resource) or the writers could have turned the reporter woman into a guy and even up the options. Anyway, just wanted to put my pov across.

But they had resources for 7 options for the straight guy? And here I thought Bioware supported women gamers.

The fact that they nuked two established options (because they forgot one was an LI and the other was too unpopular to put effort in) but didn't bother to add on more to make up for it...well if felt like a giant slap in the face

Don't forget that you can only romance Garrus if you romanced him in ME2. So if Kaidan is dead in ME3 and you haven't got it on with Garrus, you have no options as a straight female.

Awesome.

Because of Garrus. If you're romancing any other dude I'm afraid you're not doing it right.

Edit/Serious Comment: Personally, I think it's because in Bioware's mind; Male Shepard is the canon character. So Jane takes a backseat regarding development. It's evident in how Jane's appearance is constantly changed in each game while John's stays relatively the same but with better graphics, and how Jane only appeared on the front cover via reversable side in the last game, when they finally settled on a look that made her look great. Sadly, her straight romances took a backseat too. Then, there's the whole thing about Liara being the Bioware-canon romance.

I could be entirely wrong, I welcome a disagreement.

Don't get me wrong. I totally dig Garrus but I would just like another option.

Same, I think I could squeeze out mabe three romances with John that I could happily play out, but with Jane, hm, sadly I'll resort to Garrus every time.

As much as I like Garrus (And Thane and Kaidan), I have other Shepards. And while batting for the other team, Samara's unrequited love will only get me so far. I would like to see more choices. FemShep suffers from having two of her romances hacksawed and nipped in the bud respectively. Hilarious result? More girls than boys, since Allers and Laira are bi, so there's only one romance to write. Add to that Kelly, Samara, and Traynor, and it goes a bit critical.

Especially with the aforementioned maybe Kaidan is dead or you had a LI in 2 who wasn't, you know, a certain awesome blue-painted turian. And if Kaidan's not your cup of tea, you're SOL. Vega and Joker are busy doing whatever it is they do, and Javik doesn't have time for your primitive fuzzy feelings or whatever.

apparently we were all supposed to be able to see into the future to know that if Kaidan did not survive the first game and that if you didn't romance garrus in the second that your straight femshep would be forever alone.

I admit that the idea of dating the ultimate space troll has its appeal.

Why not? As the game progresses it becomes Javik has a lot in common with Shepard. It would be interesting to see if you could break through that crusty shell of his. Perfect Renegade option in the romance department.

"You should have seen it comin ladies, AMIRITE??? You should have known they would get nuked to s**t even though they were as legit as every other ME2 romance at the time. In fact, I like that they had love interests dump you and die without a choice to save them, makes it more real yanno?  Now if you excuse me I'm on my third manshep import enjoying ALL MY OPTIONS!"

Sorry too. XD That's the problem with the Internet, written words lack intonation.

I wanted someone like Wrex...but all we got were boring choices....Jacob, Garrus, Kaidan(ewww), and Thane. Jacob cheats on you, Thane is dying from the first time you meet him, Kaidan is just gross and boring, and Garrus is not very interesting either.

I wonder how many times this thread question will pop up before Bioware responds.

As I always say, they catered to the male fan base first because they think the female fan base is that unimportant. They went back a whole decade in thinking when it comes to the video game audience.

I never understood why you'd want multiple romances. I mean you're already fond of Garrus, isn't that enough? I only have one Shepard throughout the series, and one romance; Liara, if she was the only LI avaiable for my femshep, I'd be content, considering that for me, it's adequate. But you're probably different than I am, because the way I see it; you're betraying Garrus of you romance somebody else, not that it matters, because he's a fictional character, but I guess I developed fondness for the characters and mass effect universe. Geez I'm weird, sorry I mised the point of the thread. :P
