Mass Effect 3 raised the bar so high that I can't enjoy non-bioware games.

I kinda agree. Its more of the fact that I can't seem to connect as much to characters in others work. An example is recently in The Avengers movie. I laughed at the jokes because, come on, they were pretty funny. But in the end it really did not feel... "epic"? The battles and all such just could not compare. And before anyone say "You have bad taste", I have many books, see many movies and I have pretty much played every major western RPG (and other genres as well) the last 10/15 years. Currently in my first BG2:ToB playthrough.

I have to agree with THG. There are games out there that are better then mass effect in certain areas. but Mass effect as a whole, as well as dragon age has left me wanting more bioware games. I want more then just fighting in a game. i want a good story, different personality in my companions and a feel sense of connection to them. Bioware was done that on both ME and DA. Even one of their early games, Jade Empire was like that. i hope they keep making games like ME and DA, if not, i'm in trouble. LOL.

It's the opposite for me really. ME3 put my bar so low that I can enjoy pretty much any game now.

Someone hasn't played many bad games have they? ME3 is a solid 'Very good' in my opinion. Have you seem some of the **** that's out there?

Well, how many games I've played isn't really relevant because it's a matter of taste.
But I can sure tell you that some games I didn't like all that much are a lot more entertaining now after my disappointment for ME3. There was a time when I didn't even feel like playing any games at all after I saw the ending. I'm glad that I at least can enjoy other games now, but I'd much rather wanted to love ME3.

Thank God, I wasn't the only one!

While I loved 'The Avengers', after watching 'Game of Thrones' and playing 'Mass Effect 3' I just expected there to be more depth from the characters I loved. Then I realised I'd been spoilt and needed to temper my expectations...

I want to play more BW games too but not in quick succession. A decent BW game is worth the wait, quality > speed.

Could you please finish ME3 before you start making the OP's games?

I am glad you liked ME3 BUT! there are games that out-do ME3. Witcher 2 has a better story and more pure RPG elements and more engaging combat design. Skyrim had a more expansive, organic world. Gears of War 3 had better multiplayer and shooting combat. I could keep going if you want? or are you trolling...

Gotta disagree there. In my opinion, The Witcher 2 has a weaker story than Mass Effect 3. Also, the combat mechanics aren't even that great. They're good, but pretty average when compared to ME3 or, something more similar, Batman Arkham Asylum/City (which it drew inspiration from, I believe).

In fact, I'd say the first Witcher is better than the second. More characters, better story, bigger world. I was really looking forward to the Witcher 2 and, honestly, I was kind of disappointed. Have you played the first one?

Afraid not :/. I REALLY want too but they didn't port that over to the 360. I kinda hope they do as DLC. I joined right in at 2 so I may have been dazzled by pretty graphics and the smooth sword play

In a way he's right though. BioWare games, especially the mass effect series have an allure "je ne c'est quoi". Something to do with the world and presentation they put you in which seems engrossing, the fact that your character is "your own" you feel more attached, and you impact the story (at least the illusion of choice) which creates more emotional investment + the characters are "alive" and well-written.

Other games, while just raw entertainment don't have the same allure or depth - they are "fun" to play. Some come close like Red Dead Redemption (which makes the world feel more alive) but a lot of it is one sided. Games like uncharted are 100 percent scripted, but still entertaining. And finally 3rd person action like God of War and Ninja Gaiden have a great combat system, theme and presentation but its scope is limited.

Mass Effect as a series on the other hand was like "living" in another world for a few hours at a time, especially on the first two playthroughs of ME1 and ME2. Scope was wide, decisions made it feel like you had impact, your character was important etc...

EDIT:

This is why I'm so skeptical about future games, as they are moving away from what made them good. ME3 was their last "great" game and it had massive flaws then, that ending...

DA2 was a disaster - same with ToR.

But everything before those 3 games was gold, I'm just hoping each of these had a good excuse and they recover to the echelon of quality they were once at (even now its still very high, compared to other games in the industry) but they can do better...we've seen it.

I just hope they don't become what Squaresoft became...like Square-Enix.
