Well, Since there not going to bring back DAO combat what did you want them to do? And I loved the combat in DA2. You mean it's too fast?

Anything is better than shuffle-poke-clunk from Origins.

Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.
Besides DA2 combat is MUCH better then DA1 had. I am sure they will keep it, its one of the things that was made very well in DA2.

From the interview it has been hinted that it would be more team oriented, and you will be able to prepare/plan the fight.
So it sounds promising but the devil is in the details
Yes the shuffle, shuffle as LMFOA would put it, was really a pain for rogues, it was fine for warrior and DA:2 super Mohamed- I am hard- Bruce-lee repetitive blitz was equally painful not to mention the "i will do what you want later, let me finish my animation sequence fist)
I hope that the all classes can do ranged and melee and that you will be able to place and interrupt the companions with immediate effect.
phil
PS maria you are not that bad.

What I liked about DAO combat is that it was realistic. You could actually image actors playing out those combat moves on a set somewhere while the programmers mapped them.
Chuck Norris couldn't do the moves in DA2, yet every peon was doing them.
I also loved being able to plan out my battles in Origins. Placing my mages where they would be the safest and most use. Setting up my meat shields where they need to be. Basic strategy. DA2 took all that away as soon as enemies started falling out of the sky. All the pre-planning and battle prep was totally lost and every battle just turned into pressing the awesome button as fast as you could. Worse combat I had ever seen and doesn't belong anywhere near something called a RPG.

+1 to a fellow Tommy.
I would also add that shuffle-poke-clunk is fine where appropriate. Not all classes need to be fast. But for a dagger wielding rogue to shuffle-poke-clunk is just boring.
But yes. Here's hoping that they retain and tweak the combat from DA2.

I think it will a bit of both, strategic but not so slow/clunky like DA:O, but also less silly "button awesome" like DA2.

Well, if the reduce the number of enemies but make each enemy tougher (and no silly spawn-from-nowhere), and slightly tone down the animations - I'm happy.
Oh, and yes - more teamwork and tactics makes me all warm inside... Hope they deliver on it.

On the whole, I'd say that the DA:O combat worked well purely on the basis that I enjoyed it. Shuffle-poke-clunk had its downsides, don't get me wrong, and I can empathise with people grumbling that attack animations in DA:O were too slow, interfered with combat actions, that character positioning for attacking could occasionally be a bit ropey and that some abilities seemed relatively lacklustre.
DA2 did solve all of that. But it solved it by speeding everything up too much, removed the tactics of specific combat positioning in many cases and made the abilities so impressively deadly that it required adding in vast waves of enemies to avoid every fight being over in 10 seconds...which in turn spawned one of the biggest combat grumbles in the game.
I'm hoping that a good, long, deep breath will be taken for DA3 and the 'awesometer' and attack speed will be dialled back a few notches so that we can have the same tactical 'feeling' of the more frequently, more evenly matched smaller skirmishes in DA:O without requiring the OMFG massive health pools and OTT mechanics of the lieutenants and stealthers from DA2.

No thanks.
DAO's combat was fine. This flashy stuff gets old very quickly.

I loved Origins for its more realistic approach. I bet most of you who don't like it haven't held a sword in hand, nor seen anyone proficient with a dagger, much less would imagine up a believable (hypothetical) magic.

No and the people who say yes should get the facts right. Having said that the combat won't be Origins combat either.
Based on what Bioware have been hinting at it will be something entirely new drawing influences from both Origins and DA2. I suspect the speed of combat to be moderate along with a bigger influence on strategy. Get rid of those unrealistic exploding bodies and the combat experience could be pretty good.
I loved DA:O combat but Bioware aren't going back to that. I didn't mind DA2's combat as it was enjoyable but it got repetitive eventually. Hopefully DA3 captures what was great from both game's combat systems and includes faster combat but with more emphasis on team-work, strategy and tactics.
If they want to make combat look awesome then they should bring back the fatality strikes and perhaps include slow-mo deaths for boss type enemies. Anything really is better than a fireball making everyone explode into bloody chunks of lego pieces that look like they are juicy pieces of meat that you could eat.

^^ The matter of what kind of combat will be implemented in DA3 is (more specifically will be) a matter of fact. The forum's opinion (moreso of a single person!) doesn't matter much for making that decision final.
