and though she can fight, she's really not at all bad-ass. So in the end I find her kind of... bland.

It's good to see a female charatcer actually acknowledge, embrace, and use her feminine side rather then the usual "yeah I'm a bad-ass woman so what, now *bleep* me before I cut your balls off". That came out a little more akward then I wanted to but you get my point I think. Basiclly it's nice to see a female charatcer that while isn't afraid to get dirty and bloody also shows her feminine side so to speak outside of the romace aspect.

Disagree. The badass women in fantasy quite often use their femininity to get what they want. Anora, for example, though she may not fight, but she has alot of power, and is described as using her big eyes to get whatever she wants :)

The thing is I don't view her as being or even trying to be a bad-ass. Yes she can fight and has no problem getting dirty but in terms of attitude and character she's not even trying where as most other female characters in Bioware games usually do/are with the exception of when going through the romance dialouge. At least that's what I see out of her personally.

I don't hate Leliana, I just haven't gotten into her that much in my first playthrough. I did Morrigan's quest early, so she's warmed up to me the most. Meanwhile, I've tried to get Leliana to talk about her days as a spy and all she does is rattle on about shoes. It also doesn't help that at level 10 she still seems worthless. Can't open hard locks, barely decent DPS, and the bard specialization doesn't seem as good as assassin. I'd rather take Zevran over her most of the time.

As far as hating the French goes - I think she represents all the silly stereotypical "oh la la lady marmalade" aspects of French culture.

I don't see her as bad-ass either, but I get the very strong feeling that the game wants me to think that she is. Like several conversation options are along the lines of "Where did you learn to fight like that" and "I've never seen anyone from the chantry fight like that before". I don't know. It just doesn't work for me.

Well, to be fair, how many people in real life do you know that can fight as well as the characters ingame?  She's still got combat training and experience, whether it's good or not it's still supposed to be more than what you would expect from a Chantry sister...

True, but if everyone in the real world had bodies like they do in Fereldon, I'm sure it would take much.

Try the dex hotfix and the melee archer talent, you might find Leliana does quite a bit better in combat. ;) I like Leliana; she comes across more "real" than some of the companions, although the shoe conversation, I just wanted to pat her on the head and say "that's nice, dear" - it was a little silly, and felt like a guy wrote an exaggeration of a girly-girl.

That's understandable. I saw those type of questions simply and trying to put two and two together because here is this girl fresh out of the Chantry who used to be a entertainer yet is supposedly an extremely skilled fighter, (The lack of pzazz with the Rouge class admittedly doesn't really translate it well into the actual combat side of the game). It just doesn't make sense so it's meant more as a means of prying then portraying. The thing with me is the term "bad-ass" equates more to an attitude then any fighting ability so that may be why we differ.

Really that seems to be what their entire culture society is based off of though then just her personally. Kind of a Renaissance era France.

I just wanted to pat her on the head and say "that's nice, dear" - it
was a little silly, and felt like a guy wrote an exaggeration of a
girly-girl.

Hehe, you've never been around a woman who has a shoe fettish have you.

I think "smile and nod" is two of the five possible conversation choices throughout the shoes conversation. She even makes fun of herself at the end. And I've know real life women that are like that - my mother, a fully self-actualized, successful, brilliant, modern, feminist can spend hours watching Jimmy Cho on QVC. And I dated a woman that took a 50% paycut to be a manager at a Jimmy Cho store because she figured the daily happiness and the discount would compensate her for the loss in pay. She did talked about nothing but shoes unless I stuck something in her mouth.

That being said, the dex hotfix does make archery "comparable" to other fighting styles - if you're willing to adapt your playstyle to include it. I enjoy respec-ing Leli to a dually rogue, personally. And I think that dually-rogue makes a lot more sense with her character than archer (she seems like the dagger under the skirt spy moreso than the bow slung over the shoulder spy, to me)

I like Leliana but she tends to run on while talking to other party members, often saying twice as many words as any of them do. I get the feeling she likes to hear herself speak.

If there's one thing I wish about her, it's that she had some of that Aerie naughtiness/playfulness (ToB) after the romance started. She's supposed to be a bard after all, so seduction and whatnot were tools of her trade, yet she's only friendly with my characters, even in romance.

You're all trying to expose me as a perv with all this innuendo aren't you?

She was a little chunky. Food worked just as well as a ball gag. Otherwise, she was a sweet girl. With a shoe fetish.

But for all the female/shoe stereotypes - that woman could get on well with ANY other woman she met in a social setting. Two minutes, divert the conversation to shoes, and she had a new BFF wherever she went!

I dislike myself, more for her accent than anything else. I don't care whatever anyone else says, she sounds deaf to me, not French. It wouldn't be bad at all if she actually was deaf, but she's not so it's just weird.

No, you're not the only one. I hate her too, but then again I hate french too. She's way too girly for me and I never found her useful. Zev is much better than her - both in combat and in personality.

Isolde is Orlesian as well.

And there's that really important guy at the very end of the game, who I won't say more about on this forum.

Anyway, <3 Leliana.

Too bad the assassin doesn't know how to pick a lock or disarm a trap, eh?  :(

I also thought that Leliana was really annoying at the beginning "I have a quest from the Maker! I'm special! I don't like to talk about my thrilling past as a superspy!", but I warmed up to her after a while. It's a shame she's so useless in combat, though.

I like Leliana but I admit she can be annoying sometimes. Maybe that's why I like the character, she possesses the duality characteristic of a real person.

There's some great banter with Sten and Leliana in the party, too. Worth bringing her along just for that!
