The best bittersweet ending in Video Game History... its not ME

That last line summed up all of the pain and sorrow mixed with the appropriate amount of promise for a future.
"Most ironic of all was the last gift that Raziel had given me. More powerful than the sword that now held his soul, more acute even than the vision his sacrifice had accorded me. The First, Bitter Taste of that terrible illusion--Hope."
Anyone else agree? or can think of a better example?

Damn you just beat me too it. I love how the new game + can make canonical senseSergeantSnookie wrote...
Just finished Bastion a little while ago. Now THAT was an ending.
Also like to throw out RDR an amazing story.

THAT is perfection of bittersweet. World is saved, all survived (mainly, with some losses : Boromir, Theoden etc.) but Frodo and Gandalf have to leave, leaving Middle Earth for a renewed world.
In ME woulda been fine with Shepard dying so long as we could see the galaxy move on.

And I would agree with Mr. Epler about FF X except that it has that secret ending where he lives and everything is happy... kinda ruins the whole feel of the end. One of my issues with the end of ME was the extra scene where shepard lives. I was ok with him dying, I was ok with him living, but I felt that making the ending as sad and depressing as it was and then placing that scene with him alive just ruined it.

I quite enjoyed the ending to Final Fantasy X. It made me shed a few manly tears.
Me too...though, despite my distaste for the sequel in general, it was nice that they made a happy and closure-filled ending...'cept Auron didn't come back...*sigh* can't win em all.

Suuuuuuuch a good game. Themes of learning from the past and...well I can't really go into it without laying down some massive Spoilers.
Hey people! Play Bastion whilst we wait to see if this Extended cut stuff works out!

That is all. That kind of ending I could see in Mass Effect. I didn't cry though.
EDIT; Next up I'd have to say Bastion. Chills, bro.

I kind of miss happy ones, actually. My life isn't all cupcakes and roses, and sometimes I like a little victory in my escapism.
