I've lived here in London quite a while and I didn't really notice the difference.

Same here I agree. XD

Seems improved, really.  I for one would like to thank the Reapers for destroying the London Eye and saving our skyline.

Same here.

Earth wasn't given any special attention in the previous two games, except perhaps that one part in Mass Effect 2 where you realise the collector base can hold more humans than just the ones living in colonies.

When you do visit it in Mass Effect 3, you're not shown much of it. In the beginning you're there for a few minutes watching the Reapers invade. You never get to see the the city looks like before the invasion--knowing what it once looked like, and then seeing it all crumble would've made much more of an impact, I think. It's the same with London, except at least you have the Big Ben as a recognisable landmark.

You don't really get to bond with anyone on Earth either, and the only person the player develops a real attachment to is Anderson. (No BioWare, children do not automatically endear themselves to others just out of the virtue of being children.) And personally, even that attachment felt tenuous. You don't really share worries or memories in the beginning--that's only in the end, which is well done by the way. If you had more people you cared about on Earth then you'd be more worried. Like with Garrus, when Palaven was burning and you didn't know whether he was on the planet or not.

I really, really think that they should have let us explore it pre-destruction, just so we could see what we'd lost. Like you say, we barely saw the place; it didn't feel like "home". I assume they picked London because of the landmarks (was that gigantic ferris wheel thing in it? I don't remember the actual name, sorry :( )

There's just no reason to really care about it. Why is that the final setting?

I also totally agree that they missed an opportunite to interact with characters with attachments to it. It just seemed like another location :\\

In this game, no. How should I? I didn't see earth in ME1 & ME2, while I did see a lot of the other worlds. What I cared about were those, and especially the Citadel, because you visit it quite often. "Retake Earth" is a good slogan for new players, but I guess the majority that started with ME1 didn't really care that much.

You know the six months in prison thing really gets me.
Setting aside the ridiculousness of a pro-Cerberus ultra renegade Shep who gave TIM the Collector base turning themselves in rather than laughing in the Alliance's face... you mean to tell me that any Shepard wouldn't be in the least bit bitter that the Alliance wasted Shep's and everyone's time keeping them locked up when they could've been out there finding ways to stop the Reapers?

Yet not once do we at least get to call the Alliance on their stupidity, tell Hackett to stuff it and ask why Earth is so damn important.
Even in ME2 you could question Cerberus while working them, but here it's pro-Alliance pro-Earth yes sir whatever you say sir salute.

The thing is, we didn't really have enough time to get to know Earth. I mean, with Tuchanka, we've got Wrex, who's trying to save his people, and we get to see really just how much of a wreck it is and why the Krogan need saving. With Earth, we spend 20 minutes there before the Reapers attack. We don't get to see what it was like before, and that we're supposed to feel bad cos that little kid we don't know died.
If there had been, say, an hour or so on Earth, making it out like a hubworld as such where you get to take part in some minor sidequests (like the Citadel from ME1, though probably with a little more gunfights), so you can get to know Vega, and maybe the kid as well, have him show up as a minor part in a few sidequests, just so you can get to know him and feel bad when he dies.

I think Mordin said it best in ME2 when he said it was difficult to anthropomorphise the galaxy, it's too big, so instead he's going on the mission for his favourite nephew. That's the entire point, I wouldn't have cared about Tuchanka if Wrex hadn't been so bummed out about the genophage, I wouldn't have cared about Rannoch if Tali hadn't been there to tell me why the Quarians deserve to return there. I'd have continued mindlessly killing the Geth if it hadn't been for Legion showing up and explaining the other side of the conflict.

Agreed. I was playing an Earthborn Shepard who got away from that place asap and had no intention to ever return.
And then suddenly the Alliance Security Council was on Earth instead of Arcturus Station, you had spent 6 Months on Earth wasting time while the Batarians were obviously under attack from the Reapers.
And of course the Mission in London because "I was born in London.""Really?" *SILENCE*.

Yeah, let the bulk of the Reaper Fleet stay at Earth while we take back the Rest of the Galaxy.

i agree with KingKhan03, after killing the Maw on Tuchanka that place pretty much felt like home for my Shep. Everything is out to kill you, awesome ^_^

Is being born in London an Earthborn Shep quote?! Or is that Anderson, because I know he was apparently born in London.

Argh why does no one have a british accent but Miranda has an australian accent this bothers me so much

It's weird the renegade shep in this game was a jerk but in the end it doesn't matter you still get the same choice Paragon or renegade what a shame.

if the game start with you sort of hanging around in your house (under arrest) with guards to talk to, vids to watch and james to chat with, I might have felt more connected.

I think it's one of those irritating 'narrative convenience' things :\\ which I'm sure you know already. I agree that literally everyone in the Alliance should know that Shep is too important to be held in prison for like 6 months though!

I like how ME3 brought up the Akuze angle (for Sole Survivor), ME2 ignored it entirely.

I even bought Arrival but that's not really much of an explanation. :( SHEPARD DOES NOT CARE ABOUT BATARIANS (even as a paragon)

In the trailers the London Eye seems to be on top of a building or something?
Why would you ever want to make that thing more visible. You mean in the future London's going to get mayors who are dumber than Ken Livingstone and Boris Johnson? The horror.

The first ME book explains why Anderson doesn't have an english accent despite being born in London (likely a result of exposure to e-schooling and pan-global entertainment vids and music).
And Jacob's girlfriend was British. And so was Samantha Traynor.

I kind of think this is a good idea. Even though it wouldn't have been SUPER INTENSE FIGHTING ACTION GAMEPLAY

I think if the introduction and conclusion to the game (both set on Earth) weren't written so badly then we'd feel more attached to it. But I can understand the goal to save it, its where 90% of our race lives.

Being driven personally to save the planet itself though, rather than the people living there, wasn't a big deal for me.

I don't get why they tried to introduce new players to ME with ME3. Why not sell a bundle with the first two games for $80 ($50 ME3, $15 x2 for ME1 and ME2). Surely they'd make more money this way?

Indeed. Also, I don't buy the "refitting Normandy" excuse. Give Shepard another ship and off they go.
In fact, give Shepard her mom's ship. Because that would be awesome. Non spacers could get some other dreadnought.

But anyway yeah Batarians. Basically Shepard's in jail just to please the damn Batarians. My Shepard would be so pissed off.
Especially since, partly due to this, the Batarians are now all dead. Nice one Alliance! Screwing everybody over for minor and temporary political convenience.

nah
Anderson: "I was born in London."
Shepard: "Really?"
cue awkward silence.

Shepard only makes a mention of the City she is from when on Eden Prime (in ME3), the comment is basically that that City was a cold, hard Place. And that Eden Prime doesn't deserve it's cruel fate. (implicating that Earth would deserve it ^_^)

Aside from that, it's up to the Player to decide where Shepard is from.

I felt no real connection towards Earth, or not a bigger one than towards other Homeworlds... In fact I felt more connected to Thessia (My Liara's world!), Palaven (My best friend ever!) and Tuchanka (my Brother Wrex!).

My Paragon Spacer was more interested in SAVING the WHOLE GALAXY, rather than individual worlds, anyway... Being so... Earth-Centric is almost like going back to Mass Effect, and FORCE you to support Terra Firma, no matter what.

are they even allowed to bundle ME1 and 2? ME1 had a different Publisher. So that one and EA would have to reach some kind of agreement to make that possible. I thought that was why we didn't get a MassEffect-Ultimate-Edition(ME1-3 including all DLC)
