Yeah, the Mako/exploring uncharted worlds was actually one of my favorite parts of ME1. I've noticed I seem to be in the minority on that, though.

The reason why I replay ME1 far more often than ME2. And probably ME3 now as well. ME1 stands too well on its own. Better on its own, in fact.

The Mako was done very well on PC, it's a shame it was discarded in the other two games.

Yeah but by 3 you've explored them, did missions, made decisions, and by 3 you have a whole Reaper invasion and it'd be kinda lame to go off to....say....Caleston to scan a crashed probe while Reapers reap whole civilizations.

These moments would have been brilliant... if they didn't involve the Mako. What an awful piece of game design that thing was.

We still could've used one in combat. Rannoch would'a been so much more fun if we had to roll to that Reaper Base on the Mako, fighitng off Armatures and geth tanks and flyers, and other fun stuffs! As it is, ME3 doesn't even HAVE Armatures or Colossi =(

With nostalgia glasses even the overheating mechanic of mass effect 1 was amazing.

Made me feel like really being out there.

These explorations actually made me fall in love with the ME universe.

Pity so many people complained about the exploration and the Mako at the time.

Not me. Wasn't into going to dev forums and airing my opinions back then. And boy, did I ever regret it when ME2 came out... About the only change that I liked from the get-go was that Tali became romanceable, everything else I had issues with. Still do, for most of them, though the characters mostly redeemed it for me afterwards.

I liked the idea of exploration in ME1 ... it was more the way it was executed that turned me off in subsequent playthroughs.

I'm replaying ME1 now and I do miss the Mako.

The actual planets themselves could've used some more work though. Some of them were a bit too anoying to drive around on but the concept itself was good.

No me niether. I didnt mind the elevators at least there was some squad banter and didnt break up the action (but alot complained at the time) frankly I far prefered them to the load screens, to name but a few things. I am the same as you I really regretted not voiceing my support for certain aspects of ME1 which were subsequently removed mainly (I believe) because of the number of people complaining at the time.

We need our rose-tinted glasses to gloss over any issue something that held us captivated for a short time.
