Dem skyboxes.

I literally stand on Luna and stare up at Earth for about ten minutes every time I do that mission.

Then I go back to raging about how I have to drive the 'drunken rhinoceros' over the biggest mountains in existence. But at least the scenery is good!

I loved how earth is backwards on the luna skybox

Oh Mako, how I loved thee...

And the Hammerhead was fun. Damn how I miss being able to go mooch around inhospitable planets looking for mummified salarians, lumps of meal and thresher maws, sigh.

Funny how everybody hated the Mako in ME1 (it was pretty much everybody's biggest complaint) but now that the "stream lined mainstream ME3" is out everybody misses it *rolls eyes*

I think you are wrong there. Always have loved the Mako. Never hated it. :) So not "everybody".

If I want "exploration" I'm going to go play Skyrim. I don't play ME to drive a vehicle up mountains on an uninteresting planet.

This. I'm doing a playthrough of ME1 right now, and it is such a chore. I'm skipping as many of the UNC missions as I can, so that helps, but just the combat itself is so bad compared to the sequels. Don't get me wrong, I loved it when it came out, but its just not even fun now.  All I keep thinking is what is the fastest way to get though this and still do everything that matters for ME2 and ME3. I'm tempted to drop the 800 MS points or whatever for that comic they came out with.

This.

The second two really failed to capture that sense of exploration and discovery, battling thresher maws on deserted planets, or hearing rachni on the moon, or coming face to face with some shifty looking cows.

And all those pretty colours and lighting coming from moons and suns. It was glorious... GLORIOUS.

It was a pointless waste of time. Exploration should never have been part of Shepard's job. At least the later games got this right.

Edit: obviously, that's IMHO. But it seems pretty clear to me that Bio made a mistake when they put vehicle exploration into ME1. It didn't have anything to do with the character they had or the story they were telling.

Agreed.

but starchild fits perfectly?

id rather have jagged mountain driving then beiber-boy.

mass effect 1 was by far the greatest game i ever played.  mastered it, and had it down to a science.  would love to replay for the like 7th time, but sadly, i know the ending to mass effect 3.

I wonder how many of you who hated the Mako were playing the game on a PC versus the Xbox.

Now that you mention it, I don't remember having nearly the problems on the Xbox as I did on PC. PC was almost unusable at times. There were times where it would take me a minute or two to just get the thing to go in the direction I wanted, what with all the bouncing and overshooting and having to turn around, and bouncing and overshooting, and so on. On XBox, it was still frustrating, but I think it was actually better somewhat. Possibly because you could control speed much easier, and you had the joystick to control direction instead of just forward, reverse, left, and right.
