Either:
1. Play the game anyways "Dude let's just see how far we get!" (Overexcited member of a random game I joined Friday night). Assuming you used expendables, and will kick the person out of the lobby.
2. Convince everyone on the team to just die and fail the mission, which sounds easy, but in my experience I have yet to find 2 other members who would willingly just up and die after wave 1.

Either way, report the user to bioware/EA and if you're on xbox give the player bad rep so you have less of a chance of encountering them in a random game.

I like giving people the benefit of doubt. People can be AFK for a while due to something unexpected, it happens. Of course in practice this means that I can't really tell if people are just AFK for a while or leeching the whole match until way into the match. If you want to discourage leeching, I think FollowMeClosely has the right idea. Early intervention is key.

I guess I'm fortunate that I have only played with 2 campers before. The last one on silver (3-4) days ago decided to just move every once and a while for 9 waves. I would have quit but the other 2 players were actively playing and so I would feel guilty if I quit on them. The camper cloaked and hacked the 4 devices for wave 10, which was the extent of his/her involvement until wave 11, when they actively played. However, as I don't personally care about the credits or XP for full completion, when the ******* went down in the LZ with seconds to go, we all left him there.
I know this isn't humourous, but at least we had fun in that map and he/she had some (though small) form of comeuppance.

Why do they do absolutely nothing - is it because it dosen't draw the attention of enemies ?

I only quit if they are caught early on, like it's beginning of wave 3 and they still have 0 points early. Then I just die if playing with freinds since they'll die as well or quit since I won't trust randoms to notice why I am dying.

If I catch them later, well it sucks and all but I won't forfeit the xp's ad credits that I earned up until that point and quit or die on purpose before the wave 10 objective has been completed. To be fair though, if someone goes afk midmatch, it may be because something really did come up, that's happened to me at least once while playing with no mic randoms that I couldn't give a heads up that I had to walk away for a min.

we carried someone through 8 waves of a gold match. the dude started playing again in wave 11

we very politely told him he was a tool and shamed him, he bailed quickly.

I try to give people the benefit of the doubt but if they haven't scored a single point by the first objective wave I leave and encourage others to do the same. Completing even one objective does nothing but encourage leechers.

Hmm.....very interesting suggestion.

Sometimes I feel the friendly fire needs to be in place just so Krogan's don't assume they own line of sight to a target.

Ugh, that reminds me, a freind and I was playing with someone the other day that just kept running back and forth not using powers or shooting anything. We knew he was there because he kept talking to some chick on his headset. :(

Freindly Fire? No. Just no. If you have to ask why, then you need to be krogan slapped.

happened a couple of times when i was in a 3 man party. we noticed the turian sentinel wasn't moving or shooting but had his armor on for some reason. i think i was on FB Ghost. anyway he would take cover standing up in the corner beside the extraction zone.  me and the other 3 guys playing took cover beside him after wave 3 and would just wait till all the enemies funneled down to us.  eventually it forced him to move around and participate. was pretty funny seeing 4 players right beside each other all in standing cover.

back in the lobby we quickly booted him and set him as an avoided player

Yeah, I don't think friendly fire is a good idea, personally. Because I would shoot my teammates, not on purpose, but it would happen and they would get mad at me for shooting them. Then I would get mad at them for shooting me... one thing leads to another then another and eventually the planet would explode, all because of friendly fire. j/k

Bronze and silver are completely doable even with a two man team. If you're not good enough to solo bronze and clear silver with one other person, look at it like good practice.

Think of it this way, if you quit, you lose consumables exp and credits earned up to that point. If you keep playing, there's a chance you'll make it to the end, and feel like a badass for doing so. THEN you kick that jerk.

The point is that people don't want to reward the jerks at all, otherwise their decision to be a jerk is validated by in-game mechanics.

Well yeah. I wasn't trying to defend them. It's just that there's really no way as it stands to deny them any reward. If you all quit the match, the camper stays and is the only one to get the exp (and credits if you don't notice till after wave 3). If the squad all purposefully dies, the camper gets the same thing, but you get the credits/exp as well, plus a feeling of having wasted any equipment and consumables you might have used.
I just try and take a positive outlook on the situation, because all the other options we have available punish me and not the camper.

This!
I know some people can just come back and move every now and then to reset the time, but it's a step in the right direction, and anyone who takes the effort to actually do that needs to just freaking play for christ sake.

It's kind of ironic that you can kick people from lobby 5 seconds in, with only contextual information about the player... While once in game you can see the real deal and cannot kick anymore.

I would take both the ideas mentioned above and combine them.

I think it should be a dual process: kick based on player behavior AND kick based on player votes. If BOTH of the criteria are met then boot the player.

I think the behavior script should be the follower:
-1.) If player is idle or doing the same thing for 5 straight minutes (i.e. they tied a rubber band to their controller)
-2.) And If ALL players in the sessions vote to kick the offender

PLUS:
-If the player hasn't shot their weapon, or used their powers, or participated in ANY objectives, or revived anyone, or even made it to the extraction point they get ZERO credits

I don't think 2 minutes is enough and you need to include voting because this might be a private game and a friend went to the bathroom and the other players don't mind.

I'll tell you what my friends and I did:

There are 3 of us + 1 random in a Cerberus Silver match on FBW. We noticed 1/2 way into the 2nd wave that the random is camping. He was host, so we decide to troll him. We killed all but 1 Trooper and then 2 of us quit, the one that was left was a Geth Infiltrator. He used Hunter Mode to keep an eye on the Trooper's location and cloak to navigate around the map. We just kept the trooper alive to keep the game stuck on Wave 2. We then took shifts. We would play a game and then one of us would join the Wave 2 game to relieve the other person. That person would then exit so they could play. We went through 1 full shift (a little over an hour) of this before the camper realized what was going on and quit. Too funny. A slight waste of time, but well worth it IMO.

If I quit then it's no credit for me, all credits for him.

Best just go die already, group wipe (best if you call it out on private message/voice chat) collect the credits then kick him from lobby.

Easy.

Make sure you're last man standing on wave 10, kill everything but a lone rocket trooper/husk/nemesis then declare the match won or lost by dance-off. Circle strafe and dodge roll around them, but not actually kill them, while singing the great hits of the 70s and 80s into the mic. Bonus points if you're not last man standing, and get the rest of your team in on it.

Wait until said perpetrator leaves and forfeits all their credits and XP for the match (they're never really AFK, just being jerkasses) then off the last mob and cash in. Don't worry, they will leave when they realize you're tanking their XP/creds per hour on purpose and there's not a damn thing in the universe they can do about it, especially if you're being as annoying as possible about it.
