They tried to listen to fan feedback, which had fans pretty split in wanting to see it or not. For me that picture is about as revealing as a picture of a space hamster. It lasts for 4 seconds, and it has a different texture than any of the other pictures of character models, making it easier to flat out ignore the "reveal" as nothing more than a drawing or artistic rendering Shepard picked up.
Either you don't show it (fine), or you do it properly and model her (fine). What you don't do is put the least possible amount of effort in and still reveal her. That's the worst of both worlds.
It's not good in any reality. Please check yourself
Even if they had opted to not show it, that would undoubtly caused some fury as well. As would having it revealed in game, with some sort of 3D model that most people would probably hate. They were never going to get this one right.

The fact that you can justify putting the time and resources into Diana Allers and not take the time and effort for Tali is just flat out awful. AWFUL.
Well, Tali won't guarantee support from IGN.
After Newscorp deleted messages from a dead girl's hacked voicemail so they could get more headlines and soundbites, I'm really surprised EA was willing to do business with anyone from there. I mean there's evil, and then there's THAT. And I am totally fine with guilt bya ssociation at this point. There's a reason why you can go to jail in Germany for wearing a swaztika for any purpose other than a WWII film that you die in.

So do I. Casey preaches to be in touch with the fans but from what I've seen... that is a complete lie.
I found this earlier.

But what is the point of having hair if you're a quarian? You'll never see it. Neither will anyone else. You'll rarely brush it. It will only stay in your helmet getting matted and tangled.
Do you have any idea how much work it would take to remove the hair from that photo? It's way beyond that department's image editing skills.

It's the hair. It's that hair. I'm just like... what? Seriously? You're giving her hair like that? I don't even... what?
Why would a species that has spent 300 years sticking its head in a helmet even have hair? Wouldn't it get really sweaty and hot and create hygiene problems?
eww... so true.... eww

Maybe the humans have special tech so it doesn't get sweaty.

Nah. They probably have some cleaning protocol thing in their suits w/ Pantene.[/quote]

Yeah, I agree about the hair. I don't mind them having it, but I guess I assumed if they did have it they would keep it a little shorter just out of comfort and hygiene purposes.
I like this fanart, which does give Tali some hair, but it looks fairly wispy and maybe a bit matted.
I have hair as long as the model they used for Tali and it is a pain in the ass to deal with when I'm just wearing it naturally. I can't imagine how obnoxious it would be if I had to keep it inside a helmet 24/7. Makes my scalp hurt just thinking about it.

300 years isn't long enough for hair to dissapear due to evoltuion, it's like 10 generations; they might shave their heads but they've spent the vast majority of their evolutionary history without helmets on so there's no reason to assume "there's no reason for them to have hair".
There's no reason for human eyes to be structured the way they are, or for the recurrent laryngeal nerve, etc, etc. they're all evolutionary hold overs.

I mean they shouldn't have hair because they are in their suits all the time? Really?
With that logic they shouldn't have skin or eyelids either.
I actually like the face they chose for her. It came pretty close to how I always imagined her looking. I do however think that it's utter bull**** they didn't model her face. Almost as dumb as showing the quarians in their suits in the holo recordings during the VR mission.
"Because that's how Shepard pictured them in his mind..." You mean to tell me Shepard has never seen a Quarian outside of their suit? I know for a fact mine had because he romanced Tali FFS. Also what? Is there no internet in the future? Shepard at no point in his life went to Space Google to run an image search on Quarians? <_<
EDIT: Before I get blown up, I realize you probably meant there is no cosmetic reason to have hair as a Quarian. Fair enough, I suppose your are correct in that regard. However seeing as how they are inside their suits all the time you have to imagine they don't get a chance to cut it very often.

In how many ways can this guy be completely out of touch with the customers expectations? Its hardly like any of these expectations were secrets. They had all been discussed ad-nauseam in the forums prior to ME3. I can only assume that he never read any of them or put his own ego ahead of any contradictory evidence.
It hardly takes a rocket scientist to realize that ME3 had to have several thematically distinct conclusions if it was going to serve as the end to a series whose mantra was "player-directed-plot". Building a game with a singular ending demonstrated a complete lack of understanding regarding the diversity that ME1/ME2 had intentionally created.
And how many posts have there been over the years about customers wanting to be able to play through an epilogue where they get to settle down with their LI? Its hardly like that expectation was a surprise...

Yes. Instead of pissing off 50%, they decided to go for the touchdown and anger everybody. Nicely done.
No. It doesn't make any sense. They screwed up, royally. There's no defense for this.

I'm not even a talimancer but that video irks me, the photo idea was slapdash at best, either they should have left her as a mystery or did her model properly for a true reveal, the trouble with that photo is it's now bloody canon.

IMHO I think the scene on Rannoch where Tali takes off her mask is tailor-made for a reveal. However my guess is BW ran out of time / resources and just gave fans what they could as quickly as possible.
If folks would just stop the PR-bullcr@p I would be a lot less mad about everything that's going on.
