Am I the only one who was fine with ME2 squadmate appearances?

Every one seems to hate the way ME2's squadmates were handled this time around, but I'm fine with it.
They all got pretty good cameos that showed how they've changed (save for Morinth) and a few even got priority missions. I mean you really can't expect to get the majority of them back.

The romances sucked though I'll give you that, but other than that why did so many people have an issue with them?

I like Mordin and Legion's roles. Thane had a nice cameo if not romanced.
Most of the others got pretty much butchered in order to sideline them.
Miranda's lack of any real involvement in the Cerberus arc was just comical.

Zaeed's cameo made be angry. He had so much potential. If they didn't cut the Omega story arc, Zaeed would have been a temporary enemy; that would have been so much better. If they do release Omega as DLC, they got to put Zaeed in it, even if you did the volus ambassador mission.

I would've preferred them as squadmates in ME3. I thought it was a huge waste, all that character development, then to just make them cameos. Maybe it was better, the writers who made the characters so great in ME2 either weren't working on ME3 or had their work constrained by time or Mac Walters. I know Karpyshyn didn't work on ME3, and I think it really shows. Only character I thought that was well written was Javik, by senior writer John Dombrow, and he only worked on the DLC and dialogues from it I think.

Aside from the romances sucking, I think the ME2 characters were fine.

It's not like they could have been a major aspect of the game, any number of them could be dead and gone depending of the player. There are also way too many of them, they already stretched ME2 and the plot of that game wasn't nearly as ambitious as ME3.

After all the effort we put into them in ME2 to keep them alive past the suicide mission, most of them were replaced or removed easily with nothing other than a loss of war assets in ME3.

I liked it too. All the characters I liked got the proper cameo they deserved.

i liked the way they were implemented

the reason most people don't is they would have rather had the ME2 squadies replace EDI and Vega. thing is, as every ME2 squadmate has the possibility to be dead in ME3 they needed to add squadies that would be alive 100% of the time.

only reason they allowed Garrus and Tali to return as squadies its like Shepard said "you two have been with me longer then anyone"

Yeah Zaeed was the worst cameo, he was just standing around like "uh yes, im zaeed, a merc, on a job, hi. imma go docks meet me lol bye." And now he just stands there in the middle of refugees with a few sentences when you click him.

They could've expanded their roles at least a bit more. Especially the roles of the ME2 squaddies that have nothing to do after you finish their sidequest. Its not that big a of deal but a tad bit more effort couldn't have hurt.

As big a Jackolyte as I am, I really just wanted ANYONE from ME2 to be a permasquaddie (maybe not Jacob, but anyone else).

Miranda, Grunt, Mordin (although is part was awesome as is) ...

I just think refusing us ANY of the ME2 cast is a bit of a fvck you.

Hell, ME2 still had Garrus and Tali in it, right? They could've done the same thing here for at least one character.

- Mordin and Legion got the best of it.
- Jack, Thane and Grunt were satisfying enough.
- Jacob, Miranda and Zaaed were a little lackluster.

This pretty much.  Kasumi's was okay too.  I'd rather have had a playable mission with each of them but that was unrealistic to expect.

A brief cameo is better than nothing.

Would've liked the option to dump the VS for Miranda though.  Warp + Overload + Squad weapon plus all day, everyday.

...

Sort of relevant, but If I were Bioware I would never have made Garrus, Tali, or Miranda killable in ME2.

I'm cool with it. I thought they all got enough screen time. And they all had relatively good reasons for not joining me. (Except Miranda. Seriously wtf?) I couldn't care less about kasumi and zaeed.

I expected more squad mates. Not as many as 2, but at least one from each major race. Kept waiting for a Krogan or Salarian to hop on board.

I wanted, nay, expected to see them all play a part in the final battle somehow.

I was fine with the characters only making cameos. I mean, how many squadmates do you need? There aren't that many missions to utilize 12+ squaddies. Then again, Garrus is my fav and I had him by my side in all three games. Derp.

Only a few. I liked Thane, Mordin, Legion, Wrex and Grunt. Their cameo's were pretty good but the rest were bad.

Samara's mission was good but then she randomly says "Nope can't come with you, writers don't want to do anymore dialogue."

Jacob is just Jacob. Completely underwhelming as always.

Miranda did absolutely nothing that couldn't have been done on the Normandy. Instead she chases after the random BS from last game and she gets a few lines, sad.

Jack I understood why she wasn't available and was ok with that. But she deserved more, she should've had another appearance for people who romanced her. Very disappointing.

Did they?  What reasons did they give?

Kasumi: "You're not talking me into another suicide mission."

Okay, fine, go die somewhere else when the Reapers kill everyone.

Jacob was sort of a pansy with his family life and all... and he wouldn't have helped that much anyway haha... (both in-character and in-game).  Actually now that I think about it Kasumi probably wouldn't have helped that much either since she's a thief/stealth character.

Jack had it right, and Miranda I expected more from (especially if she was romanceable).  Grunt should've joined as well, he has no excuse.

The biggest omission is Grunt (who was fighting anyway).

There should have been though.  I made a post about it in another thread.

Biggest mission of the Galaxy... and your squad is playing poker on the Normandy while you're charging down the Mother of all Thresher Maws on Tuchanka.

If I were in charge of ME3 I would have happily sacrificed the better graphics for 12+ squaddie missions.  Not 12+ squaddie playable missions, but 12+ squaddie cameo missions.

The best example of how it could be done in ME3 is Grissom Academy.  Shepard is fighting Cerberus but Jack and her biotics are ALSO fighting in the background.  Replace "Jack" with "everyone else on your squad" in every major mission.

I liked most of them. Jacob was kind of meh, as was Zaeed. Everyone else aside from Morinth was good enough, I think. I would have been nice to get, say, one extra squadmate from the bunch, though. Maybe they could have let you choose which one you took or something.

Miranda is the biggest puzzle for me.

She was such a hard one to kill in ME2 (far tougher than Tali and Garrus), and her storyline in ME3 is vague, making no sense as to why she can't join you.

I get the impression that Miri is one of the more popular characters in ME, am I wrong about that?

Just seems like she should've been in the squad. I definitely missed her presence.

I liked the way some of them were done. I liked that even though we find out as soon as we meet him in ME2, and it's gotten really bad in 3, Thane still finds a way to go out a hero and I loved the growth we saw in Jack. The fact that none of them join your squad, but there's room for new people, really bothered me.

The problem with the ME2 squaddies is that half of them do a complete 180 in terms of their development (and logic) in order to have an excuse not to join you, and all the potential they had in terms of character development and growth gets thrown out an airlock. It doesn't help that their replacements are sexbot and the relatively shallow Vega (as much as I like him).
Basically, every character who could die from ME1 and 2, except Garrus and Tali, get the short end of the stick in ME3 (including the Virmire Survivor) or have generic replacements that completely undermine their importance. This is just most apparent with the ME2 squad.

I wasn't bothered by it, but then again my favorite ME2 squadmate was with me most of the game (Garrus) lol. I can understand why the people who romanced anyone other than team dextro in ME2 would be upset, though. I did enjoy their cameos and they were all fitting for their characters.

I still wish they could have come back for the final battle on Earth, instead of those lame hologram goodbyes.

I was fine with the ME2 squadmate appearances in ME3. I admit I would have liked Zaeed to have a slightly more larger role, but overall satisfied.

Hate ? Nah. I'm a bit disappointed that you don't see much of them during the earth mission but that's about it.
