I have not seen anyone getting banned yet just for being part of Retake Movement.

And it would have been said by this users first on BSN, NOT on this article.

This if people were banned for saying bad things about ME3 there wouldn't be much of the forum left.

So... Some guy gets banned for 24 hours and then a mod says sorry that it was an accident and now the retakers are being 'oppressed'?

I seeee

This looks baaaaaad for EA though because they didn't allow these forum members to continue spewing hate against the company on their own boards

New conspiracy? JK it was already a theory.

Well, obviously not banned for saying bad things about ME3 but harassing members, trying to smear Bioware and EA should be bannable, especially using Bioware's forums to start anti EA groups like Hold The Wallet or Hold The Line. Retake as silly as they are, are fine IF they don't harass members

The very sad thing is, I see a lot of the same people that I KNOW have seen those previous posts posting here to feed the flames instead of offering the truth :P

I always wonder what the anti retakers would make if all the retakers leave the forum for a week.

I have complained but I 'm still there. I have lost some of my comments due certainly to locked threads. But I'm still there I think ;op. Or am I endoctrinated too?
The ban stuff is certainly related to choice of words and curses isn't it ?

Funny, I've strongly opposed the endings and voiced that displeasure probably almost a hundred times in over 20 threads and I haven't been banned yet.  Nor have I had any one my threads shut down.  Some forums are a tyranny in nature, but I don't find BSN to be one of them.

well for a start if you keep saying "anti retakers" you can be sure an actual group will form and call themselves the anti retakers.

same goes for "pro enders",and if these groups appeared we would get more flame fests based on daft differences of opinion

I see what you did there... haha.

You know, I think I've seen more threads locked and more people reportedly banned for harrassing retakers than anything else. I've been pretty impressed with the mods, and I'm one of those who loathes the ending of ME 3.

Couple of people got full EA bans after DA2 was released (meaning no games linked to that account). Turned out to be an "error" though once news hit the gaming sites.

Well out of the 3 forums that I read on a regular basis this one, one for a different game and one for a football team this is the least regulated of the 3. Its nice to be able to come here see that people can actually get in arguments and the thread stays open as long as it doesnt get to out of hand.

Uh, I know!

They would complain about thermal clips and how ME3 is not a true RPG.

I've said plenty of harsh and mean things about both ME3 and Bioware in general lately and I have not felt that I was in danger of being banned.

My general opinion is that we're allowed to say (nearly) whatever we want, but it depends strongly on HOW we say it.

For example:

"I'm not a big fan of how some threads are locked. Some of the catch phrases like "Lockdown!" and "End of Line" strike me as being somewhat rude and abrupt, even if they are intended to be joking in nature. Tone of voice doesn't come across very well in the written form. I would, except in extreme cases, suggest just simply making explicit the reason for the lock by tying it to the specific rule broken and leave it at that as a best practice."

I have just effectively criticized something that I don't like in how the mods conduct their business here. But I have done it in a polite way while explaining WHY I feel as I do and what I would change.

I have not seen protestors being tossed for no real reason. My guess is that people are not voicing their criticism in a way that is found acceptable and/or getting too personal and aggressive.

But therein lies the problem: If people are punished and not told WHY they are being punished, then that is a problem with the moderation system. If you're going to suspend someone for 24 hours from the forum and not tell them why, then how are they going to know what behavior to correct in the future?

But with that in mind, one has to be careful of articles like the linked one with claims like, "I was suspended for no reason! Bioware is staffed by tyrants and won't accept any criticism."

Often times people who get punished aren't happy and have a bit of an axe to grind.

OK, apparently banning has not reached massive scale :) But the fact that a lot of people have not been banned yet does not prove that nobody has.

The third possibility - the article is a lie - has non-zero probability but I think it is unlikely.

My theory is that some moderators overreacted and gave inappropriate bans to a few - I saw pretty innocent thread completely disappearing from the boards instead of being locked, why not ban the posters then.

Still, the whole BW/EA handling of this situation does not leave doubt that they do not care about their current fanbase, I believe.

I've said on multiple occasions that I hated not only ME3's ending but the whole game in general and how I hated DA2. And I have never been banned once, So...

But I have seen people banned for ****-talking EA.

The person accidentally banned was Reptilian Rob.

Reptilian Rob explained that the banning was a mistake by a moderator and not because of any comment he made about Mass Effect 3 in his post here.

In the quoted article on page 2 of the comments Reptilian Rob even explained as much to the people who posted the article, who at no time reached out to BioWare to confirm details of the story, but they have not yet changed the article.

People ARE NOT banned from the BSN because they dislike some or all of Mass Effect 3 or are "protesting". People do continue to be banned if they break the site rules enough to warrant a ban, but this has nothing to do with Mass Effect 3 specifically.
