It will never happen but: what I'd love to see in the ME universe

It in all liklyhood would never happen: but I can think of a concept I'd love to see set in the Mass Effect universe.  That being a "bethesda style" open-world RPG.  ie: pick your race, pick your class/etc, start you in a spot and then let you follow a set of story missions, or not:; go off and visit far off exotic planets, meet new and interesting people, and kill them.

Races:
I'd love to see a game where you could pick from a number of races, rather than just human with mono-gender last name.
So that might include: Human, Asari, Salarian, Turian, Quarian, Drell, Volus, Krogan, maybe Batarian
Some others: the Volus, Hanar, and Elcor I'd think would be hard to impliment, but still cool to see, Geth and Vorcha would be iffy given existing lore on them.

Tallents and such:
Stick with the large asortment of weapons we've got for the most part, though maybe with a larger variety of mele options and some heavy weapons.
Use the armour pieces system, or even bring back light medium and heavy.
Treat biotic training a bit like spells perhapse: so not restricted by a "class"
Maybe control tech powers via omni-tool: ie an omni-tool can "load" so many or something.

Travel:
It would be interesting to see them keep the "ship" aspect, but maybe allow the player to buy and sell their ships, letting us A) build something custom and B) see the differing styles of ship from the different races.

Locations:
It would be cool to see some of the locations expanded out a bit: ie: a proper large segment of ward on the citadel, or more than just the docks on Illium.

Setting:
I'd likely say before ME3, what with all the nastieness there-in.

As I said: will never happen, but would be cool.

The races will cost a fortune to get VOs for, perhaps limiting it to the four council races and genders of these. (m/f human, m turian, asari, m salarian), the example would only double the costs of protagonist VO and add a good chunk of dialogue for other characters as quests might differ whether a human or a turian is the protagonist for example. Quarians might arguably be a viable race, but they're not a council race, nor are they associated with the citadel, this will be a problem if the story is about a spectre.

If you want selectable races, you won't see a turian biotic outside the military I think, and ME3's class system is a neccesary evil, as Biotic powers need to be charged before use, though ammo powers shouldn't be causing a global cooldown imo.

That custom ship deal would be more work than it's worth, they should invest most of it in story and quests. Would be somewhat fun to have a character that gets around without having his/her ship and crew and see the worlds through another perspective.

Location and setting would be interesting, but will make many ME1/2/3 fans feel disregarded as most of us want to know what happens next after the reapers got reaped.
