Bioware chooses the art and the name of the lithograph for each release.
If the artist is not available to sign the print, we add an N7 foil so that it cannot be replicated.
Waiting longer, or delaying the print, does not mean that we are rushing it - it means that the artist likely -will not- be available to sign it at any point in time, but the art was chosen to be a litho, and will be printed.

I have all of these lovely framed Mass Effect lithographs hanging on my wall, they're personalised and signed by the artist and become a real talking point when people ask about them.
And now I have the feeling that this 'foiling' will become the norm with the Mass Effect 3 range. It's just a shame really for the fans who have collected them from the start, but I suppose from a business point of view, they're still selling very well, so why change anything.
All of the Lithographs or Art Prints I collect are signed by the artists, these recent releases just seem like over glorified posters, I'm gutted as I haven't bought a Lithograph for ages.
Anyway, not that things will change, but maybe someone, somewhere may be taking notes. Sorry to rant Ms D (you're awesome at least!)

Ben Huen: Valve
Mikko Kinnunen: Microsoft
Derek Watts: Bioware
Matt Rhodes: Bioware
Sung Kim: Capcom
This means the artist of the following lithographs are no longer with Bioware: Saren, Illium, Citadel, Omega, Minuteman, Collectors, Afterlife, Wards, Normandy SR-2, Pragia, Purgatory Cells, Tali, Grunt, Thane, Miranda, Legion, Archangel, The Team. In contrast, a mere 7 lithographs have been released by Derek Watts and Matt Rhodes. With Derek having done Korlus, Cerberus, Dead Reaper, and Prototype SR-2 which were not considered stand-out hits. With that in mind, I would love to see more art by Matt Rhodes who made Jack, Garrus, and the Illusive Man, but it is impossible to know what each artist did.
I think it would be a greater tragedy for some of these lithographs to never be released simply because the artist has moved on to another company. Although we may not feel the price is warranted, it is a simple matter of supply and demand. I think it will be far more interesting to simply get the unsigned lithographs and embark on a personal mission to track down the artists themselves and ask for their signatures in person.

While I agree that the prices are rather high for unsigned lithographs, for a number of these, it's simply not going to be possible to get them signed. As with any other large project, after completion, many members move on to other companies/roles to advance their careers. With ME3 being the end of the trilogy, it is not surprising that the same has happened. To give you an idea, here is where many of the artists are now:
Ben Huen: Valve
Mikko Kinnunen: Microsoft
Derek Watts: Bioware
Matt Rhodes: Bioware
Sung Kim: Capcom

Correct me if I'm wrong but, the artist who has designed the last 2 litho's and upcoming 2 are still with Bioware (or should be?), so the arguement about people not in the ocmpany anymore is invalid. A simple solution is, get a lithograph designed, printed, signed by a artist that is able to sign it. Yes people are still going to buy these lithographs, and their probobly going to sell out, doesn't mean people are happy with it not being signed.

I'll probably pickup the Anderson one. I'm an Anderson fan and I'm afraid the Javik one would scare my kids! ;0)

Nope, Reaper Attack and Aria were done by Ben Huen. Ms. Domino also tentatively confirmed that Anderson and Javik were done by Ben Huen, but that is not 100% confirmed.
So, my argument still stands.

Interesting that Bioware chooses the art. I just wonder why we don't get more "expected" art...like standard Commander Shepard stuff (male and female of course). I figure those would sell like crazy and then you'd have more obscure stuff, like the dead reaper or proto Normandy, for more hardcore fans.
I'll probably pickup the Anderson one. I'm an Anderson fan and I'm afraid the Javik one would scare my kids! ;0)
Let's be honest here, only the more hardcore fans are even on this site to begin with and know of the lithographs' existence... I think that doing a Shepard lithograph is difficult because of the customization options. The whole fiasco with choosing an "official" femshep is proof of that difficulty. I know I would not personally get a Shepard litho because it wouldn't be representative of my own Shepard.

Alot of people, like myself, will play with the default appearance of shepard. Not because we don't want to customise it, but I feel that he looks pretty badass as he is already. If that was a lithograph, a lot of people would buy it, collectors especially.
As for my earlier statement I did not see who the artist was sorry. I don't really know how lithograph production works, just seems weird someone in a different company would produce merchandise for another company. Would be easier if the current artists at Bioware produced lithographs so they could be signed. Just my opinion though

I still don't see why the artist can't be contracted to do a signing; but even if they really aren't available, there are other options. Talking of Valve, I guess the artist wasn't available to sign my Combine Soldier lithograph, so the certificate of authenticity was signed by Gabe Newell. Surely Bioware could get one of their senior staffers to do the same?Yams2007 wrote...

Those are great ideas!

We were hoping to see this (came with Polish pre orders).

But Domino hasn't said anything so i assume they're not sure it'll be offered in store yet. Shame though, i definitely liked it.

I've tried to pin down a useful definition in this context but so far it's proven to be elusive. I'm not sure if there's much mileage in looking at the exact printing method involved, but "a nice poster" will probably suffice. In the case of the Treehouse lithos, they're printed on heavy, glossy paper (not sure if it's officially archival quality but those I've tested are acid-free) using inks that give very vibrant colours.Biotic_Warlock wrote...
What's a lithograph??? D:
The word does have a specific meaning but these days I think it's more commonly used as a marketing term to indicate (usually) good quality prints.

At the moment Im just being given the impression that Bioware see Lithographs as a means of easy money for relatively little effort.
