How many characters can the name of a global variable have?

In all likelihood it's 2 to the power of x, minus 1. Probably either 127 or 255. I haven't run into the limit, and I prefer more descriptive long form variable names rather than abbreviating.

I just tried using a variable with 35 characters and my check quit working and I used my debug functions to determine the variable wasn't updating. I reduce the name to 20 or so characters and it started working. I wonder if globals have the same 32 limit as script names and convo names.
