I don't know if this has been mentioned (though I find it hard to believe, and yes I searched the forums) but is anyone working on getting some of the weapons from the LotR movie trilogy into Dragon Age?   Peter Lyon did some incredible work crafting the weapons and armor for the movie trilogy, blending basic designs yet making them very unique.

Many games in the past have incorporated them into their fold relatively quickly so I was wondering why I haven't seen them in a game that feels very LotR/Tolkien inspired.

I understand that getting custom models into the game are being worked on (or not even possible at this point).  I know nothing about modeling or textures, and I've only begun learning the complex system that is the toolset.

Some of the weapon/armor models I'd like to see with great detail are:

Ranger Sword of Strider
Anduril/Narsil
Sword of the witchking
The variations of the Nazgul swords and daggers
Glamdring
Gimli's Axe
Witchking Battle Armor
Sauron's Armor (this would truly be an epic accomplishment!)
Gondor Armor and shields

just to name a few.....

I have not made any content for DoA *yet*, but I'm reading tuts now and if I go ahead, I will start with Glamdring. Depending on the ease of the tools, I'll probably continue in this order:

Glamdring
Elven Blades (Dagger & Sword)
Anduril
Ranger Sword of Strider
Sting
Sword of the Witch King
Boromir's Sword and Shield
Gimli's Axe

Ooo, I wish you the best of luck making those.

Make 'em extra good, if you do decide to go ahead with making them!

Yeah I'm having a bit of difficulty figuring out how to get my test model in game - I posted my questions in the tutorial thread in this forum. My mind is stuck on the idea of carving down darkspawn with glamdring tho, so I hope I figure it out before I start dropping IQ points.

There could be 3 types of elven blades: legolas daggers(would be great to have some daggers which aren't as big as the vanilla daggers), arwens hadhafang(longsword) and high elven warrior blade for 2 handed.

My redesign of Starfang ought to look familiar. Slightly different proportions, but easily modified.

There's one rather significant issue with some of these swords to keep in mind:

Andúril/Narsil

Glamdring

Aragorn's Ranger sword

Hadhafang

The Nazgûl's swords

Denethor's sword

Isildur's sword

All of these are two-handed. Which means you're going to have a lot of EXTREMELY slow swords.

I am working on a glamdring and andúril of my own.  Still ironing out some kinks--for some reason glamdring shows odd normal mapping all of a sudden as it was working fine before.

Looks pretty good, but check your scaling and proportions.

Glamdring has a 36" blade and 11" hilt. Andúril has a 40" blade and about a 12" hilt (hilt on both is measured from the base of the blade where it meets the guard to the end of the pommel).

It's also just my opinion, but both should be two-handed based on how they're used in the films (and the type of swords they are).

I'll check the dimensions - Two handed swords in DoA are like spears, and the animations are terrible. Sten would get stabbed a dozen times while warming up one of those lumbering swings. I understand the need for gameplay balance, but come on! And if the two swords were modeled somewhat to scale, they would look tiny compared to DoA's gargantuan two handers.

Glamdring and Anduril are essentially bastard swords that can be wielded two handed or one handed. If Sir Ian McKellen can wield a staff and Glamdring at the same time, I think making them longswords is perfectly acceptable.

What makes you think two-handers are extreemly slow? They are well balanced and agile weapons.

@ AlarisT
Anduril could a longer handle/grip.
Other than that....GIMME, GIMME!!!!:o

Lotion,

I'm talking in the GAME they'll be extremely slow because of DA:O's decision that two-handed swords are massive, lumbering bars of iron.

Incidentally, Andúril is in NO way a bastard sword but a full-sized longsword (the real kind, not the game's version). I have Andúril hanging on my wall, and it's not a sword you want to wield one-handed. It's just too long.

Really, even Glamdring is a little too long to be considered a bastard sword. Most of those actually weren't much longer than an arming sword. Glamdring also has a fully two-handed grip, whereas the bastard swords typically didn't (the so called, "hand-and-a-half").

I'll see if I can tweak the dimensions early next week - don't think I'm going to make Anduril a two-hander, but if you wanna take my model and create a two-hand version that's fine by me as long as I am credited if published.

So, did these models ever get made and put in the game? I'd love to have them.

Sorry, Ambaryerno's "input" turned me off to finishing these swords for use. I did resize anduril, as the picture reference I was using turned out to be the problem. Thanks for the posts and pms---now I just gotta relearn how to compile. Unless someone wants to take my models / textures and compile them.

I do have an interpretation of Anduril and Faramir's Ranger sword in my weapon replacer mod in case no one knows it. I also might convert my Hadhafang and Boromir models (as found in the Weapons of the Fallen Heroes mod) over from Oblivion and I intend to recreate Legolas' daggers and the Strider sword someday. Don't nail me down on a date though...

Adonnay - that's awesome. At one point I was thinking of making a full LOTR set, but making just two swords has been headache-inducing enough.

OK and one battle axe. I successfully made my first dazip file. Where's a good place to upload custom weapons?
